Early maturity. Meaty thick carcass, High yielding. Rams are in demand as sires for terminal crossing with other breeds for the production of prime export lambs. * Bodyweight Ewes Rams kgs kgs * Meat Carcass lean, high yielding, meaty lean, red meat. * Fleece Skin The fleece shall have no black fibres and be of a Down type microns. Skin should be pink in colour. * Head The colour of the head and ears shall be dark brown. The ears should be alert and thick. The head shall be hornless and medium length. Open faced, not covered in wool. Must have a strong jaw. * Forequarter The neck shall be of average length and not too short and the shoulder blades shall not be too wide. 384

3 * Ribs Well sprung with no excess fat. * Back and Loin The loin and back shall be wide and rounded with a well full chop. The hindquarters should be deep and wide. * Legs and Feet The animal shall be able to walk freely with the legs to be same colour as head. The hind legs shall be set well apart and should be even sized correctly shaped and up on the pastern. Dorset Down SIL No. 137 MASEFIELD, R.V. & M. K. Masefield in 1950 by the importation of a ram and 10 ewes from W. L. Stephenson, Langton Farm, Blandford, Dorset. The ram was bred by T. S. Hooper, Newburgh Farm, Dorset, and the ewes by J. F. Strang, Wareham, Dorset, and T. R. Spiller & Son, Luccombe Farm, Milton Abbas, Blandford, Dorset. At the time of registration the flock consisted of the above imported ewes and 2 one-shear ewes lambed on the voyage from England and 6 ewe hoggets. In 1953 the ewes were mated with S 22 No. 15 (17), bred by T. S. Hooper (F.18 D.D.F.B.). During 1958 the owner transferred part of this flock to D. O. Masefield who retained the original flock number, and the rest he transferred to R. T. Masefield who re-entered his portion as Flock 15. Flock No. 8 when transferred consisted of 21 ewes (5 of which were one-shear), 7 ram lambs and 12 ewe lambs. Ewes added: 1983, 1 bred by T. J. Masefield (F.268); 1991, 3 bred by H.
