1 GOLD DIGGINGS MHGRC Newsletter May 2013 Edition Editor Kathy Bourland PRESIDENTS COLUMN Chris Zink is Coming, Chris Zink is Coming! Sign up now!! It seems like I should be talking about our spring-like glorious weather but, as of the end of April, spring has yet to appear! What s that about? Keeping our fingers crossed that it is just around the corner. Our match was a great success and fun was had by all. Thanks to Karen Livingston for devoting her morning to judging our goldens. She was gentle and helpful with our youngsters and everyone appreciated it. It appeared that obedience and rally ran smoothly and everyone got sufficient help and work to make our efforts worthwhile. Kudos to everyone who pitched in to help with this day. A big thanks to Don and Vicki Carson who spent their Sunday morning running a grooming seminar for those of us in need of help with bunny footed, over-grown goldens. The hands on explanations were great and everyone got individual help. Plus we had a lot of fun in the process. Although I did have to take a recreational break at the beginning of April, the world kept on spinning and Mile Hi kept on functioning. Keith Winch pulled together the Hunt Test Judges Seminar and Laura Gillice chaired our spring Agility trial most successfully. Thanks, guys! 2 PRESIDENTS COLUMN Annual Banquet MHGRC has some exciting events coming up. Of course, there is the Awards Banquet the last weekend in April which is always a fun day and an opportunity to see each other clean and dressed all fancy! Ruthie Nordahl and Sally Sjobeck once again undertook the organization of the event and Warren Frizell and Jean Herbert will orchestrate the awards. Great job! Check the various columns by MHGRC representatives to see what will be happening in the next few months. Chris Zink Seminar June 29 & 30, Mile HI will be hosting Chris Zink DVM, PhD, DACVSMR who will present her much-acclaimed 2-day seminar Coaching the Canine Athlete. Audience Response Technology will be incorporated throughout her presentation enhancing effective instruction and engaging participants. 4 FIELD REPORT By Keith Winch MHGRC sponsored an AKC Hunt Test Seminar for new judges and handlers this past weekend (4/13). We had 17 people in agendance with Wayne Bleazard from AKC pulng on the seminar. Thanks to Kathy Frizell for helping me get the venue reserved and set up. We had people agending from as far away as Greybull, WY; Rapid City, SD and as close as almost walking distance. We had a good interactve session and I think everyone lev learning something new. Not much else in the field is going on with the water stll too cold to get our teammates into. That said, hunt test are startng in our area with the first one being Fort Collins Retriever Club May 3 rd - 5 th. That doesn t give us much Tme if you have stayed in CO for the winter and early spring. Don t forget, MHGRC is co- sponsoring with the Flatcoat Retrievers a WC/X certficaton test during the weekend of June 22 nd and 23 rd at STllroven Farm. Please let Sandy Wicker know if you are able to step up and help her for this event. The Frizell s stepped up and will chair our hunt test scheduled for September 7 th - 8 th. This is a fun event for our field enthusiast and is a great Tme to learn more about the field work. This report doesn t have any accomplishments, but that doesn t mean we don t have anything to celebrate as just being with four- legged companions is noteworthy so please send me something for our next Gold Diggings. When ing me your brags or items for the newsle4er please send to my keithbwinch@msn.com account and in the subject line state, Gold diggings newsle4er. I travel oben and get vast amounts of diverse s. I do not want to miss anyone s brag so you can help me by honoring this request. Thinking of working with a Service Dog Organization?
