Singapore Hash House Harriets 2000th Run 22nd October 2011

The Grand Mattress... Dear Hashers, Form a circle! or should that be Gather round! I ll get it right one day. Welcome to the Singapore Hash House Harriets 2000 th run! That s an awful lot of running over the past 38 years! I hope you have fun celebrating this momentous event with us. As a relative newcomer to the Harriets and Singapore I am not an expert on the history of the Harriets. My first run having only been in December 2008 and what a memorable run it was. After several months of cajoling by Stiffy, a long time Harriet, as to the many reasons why I should try hashing, despite the fact that I hated running, my husband and I took the plunge together and came to a hash. (Just to stop the nagging mind!) It was going well and I was really enjoying the fact that I could just stop running whenever I wanted to - I really did not like running. About half way through my husband started complaining about having hurt his foot. Being the loving wife that I am I ignored him and continued running/walking till the end. He was still complaining in the circle so we iced his foot and gave him a beer the best cure possible. However a week later he was still complaining about how sore it was. Please note he hadn t been to the doctor yet, as he preferred to suffer quietly, well not that quietly! He finally had an x-ray and discovered he had broken his metatarsal! Well, need I say more apart from that he has never been to another hash since! I however, three years on, have to finally admit that Stiffy was right (don t tell him), hashing is a lot of fun, the Harriets are open and friendly people who enjoy running, walking, drinking and eating together. Thirty eight years ago the founding member, Caryl Gurney and other early members, such as Annabell Tame, Audrey Holloway, Elizabeth O'Rourke, Alena Tichy and Mary Jane Douglas like us wanted to enjoy themselves running. Previously hashing had just been for the men, but these strong women decide it was time for the girls to have some fun. So we must thank them for starting this great tradition known as the Harriets. Mary Jane by the way is still a member and for that we would like to honour her by making her a lifetime honorary member. Also today we are honoured to have Ratnam Narayanasamy with us who, on Wednesday 17th October 1973, set the first ever Singapore Hash House Harriet run, so thank you Ratnam for starting the whole ball rolling and for joining us with our celebrations today. I would also like to, say a big thank you to today s hares for setting such exciting and challenging runs. The hares of the long run, Big Head and Virginia Slim, are renowned for their interesting and usually wet runs. Shoe Shopper and Wet Patch, the hares of the medium run confidently said a few weeks ago, It is sorted! It will be challenging! Just over an hour. Let s hope it won t be any longer as we don t want to be late for the circle. And never short of a word or two, Ugly Bum, the hare of the short run said, It will be a good walker s run and nobody will get lost! (We hope!). Ad-Nauseum was also a hare for the short run, but somehow he never managed to a word in. Of course such an event could never take place without the generosity of sponsors, so a big thank you to KC Dat and Boo from BMC Insurance for sponsoring those fabulous t-shirts. Thank you, Loose Change for that bottle of vodka yes that fruit is alcoholic! Also thank you to Handbag, Virginia Slim and Slocum for each sponsoring a half a keg of beer so drink up! On that note on, on, on! Wet Brazilian Page 2

[Editor s license]: our GM has failed to elaborate on how she got her name, and sadly our historical record is sadly lacking in the requisite details. She was named, while still at visitor, at run # 1860, 25th February 2009, at Dempsey Road. The circle report states: Stiffy noticed a visitor had to leave early tonight due to a thigh injury. From running? No, playing Nintendo! Loretta comes in as a half Brazillian to receive. Not a bad Hash name actually. The next week she is referred to as Wet Brazilian and the above story isn t half as interesting as I would have imagined. Left, Wet Brazilian sharing a charge with the Beer man. From Our Founder Many many congratulations on reaching 2000 runs, something few Hash Chapters have accomplished. In the very early days such an achievement would not have occurred to us as we were too busy just trying to keep the Singapore Harriets going, and introducing new Members to the joys of kampong dogs and shiggy, as well as getting out the Hash Notice in one form or another. So it is to the great credit of all Harriets, past and present, that it has gone from strength to strength resulting in this celebration. At this stage it would be churlish not to mention the great support of the men, although I am pleased to see that they know their place, ie not on the Committee. Unfortunately I shall not be there to share the day, but will raise a glass of Tiger to you on the 22nd. However I shall be in Singapore with my worst half next February, where apparently he will be attending a small celebration by the Singapore Men for some minor landmark. Nevertheless my landmark on that trip will be your Run on 22 February where I hope to meet as many of you as possible, new and old, and continue my global Hashing career of 38 years. So congratulations once again. Have a great time. On On. Caryl Gurney (Mrs G) Page 3

Mismanagement Committee Welcome to the 2000th run (approximately). Minutes of painstaking research have verified that this is, probably, run number 2,000. Of course we had run 2001 last Wednesday but experienced hashers are very familiar with the sneaky tricks used to get a milestone run on the right date, so this shouldn t be surprising or shocking to anyone. The Harriets have used such sneaky tricks before, beginning with the 50th run on September 25th 1974, which was preceded by run 47 and followed by run 49. What happened to run 48 will probably never be known, so that number has retrospectively been bestowed on 10th October 1979 for reasons that would take the rest of the page to explain. But I digress. The 2,000th run is a momentous event. Not many hash clubs have got that far, only the Singapore Hash House Harriers have run longer in Singapore and only six Harriets clubs world-wide are older than us. So the incredible responsibility of organizing the 2,000th celebration fell to a few of us who were too drunk to know what we were saying yes to at the time. In the case of a few of us, amnesia had also set in sufficiently to blank out those remind me to never volunteer to do this again thoughts after the last big event, the 35th anniversary run in 2008 (ask me after I ve had a few beers). And few of the committee will have seen this gem I found in the archives, a letter from Michael Croft (then Interhash on sec for the Harriets (shock horror a man in a position of responsibility)) to Andra Leo, GM in 1983 some sage words we should all have imprinted: My recommendation concerning your desire to hold a 555th Special Run is for you to go and lie down quietly until the feeling goes away Michael goes on to say that the workload would fall back on the same half-dozen people, a large percentage of whom would be Associate members. Fortunately, in the case of this run we had a nice balanced contribution of members and associate members. Our aim and hope has been to provide a fun event that everyone can enjoy, including the fabulous people who have put time and effort into organizing. I would like to extend thanks on your behalf to those people. Shoe Shopper & Wet Patch, who not only hared the medium run, but also hosted many of the committee meetings in the bar of Ridgewood Condo (don t try the fish sauce omelet). Shoe Shopper, a former GM, was also pretty efficient at keeping the meetings on track Ugly Bum (also a former GM) & Ad Nauseum made a huge contribution by storing all the wine and managing not to drink too much of it. Ad Nauseum did a fantastic job of keeping our budget on track ( you want to spend how much on decorations? with an incredulous look). And of course, they hared the short run. Loose Change & Zipp did a fabulous job with the shirts among many other things. Loose Change is contributing and mixing the amazing punch (try it), after run refreshments, and decorations. Zipp and Gypsy bought all the wine for Ad Nauseum s office girls not to drink. Wet Brazilian, our current GM, stunned us all with a live demonstration of the decorations in our penultimate committee meeting, sending the men on the committee to drink. I am sure you will all agree the decorations look fabulous, and if you find my old shoes please pass them back to me at the end of the night. Big Head hared the long run with Virginia Slim (I am sure you are all still out there and will read this if and when you get back). Wet n Wild as secretary occasionally took the minutes, arranged the committee dance, and took charge of on the day registration. Sneaky Comer did the magazine, took the minutes when Wet n Wild wasn t doing them, and tried very unsuccessfully to keep Wet n Wild on track and sober during committee meetings. He also tracked registrations and will be off to Rio as soon as the takings are added up. Page 6

Herr Zipp agreed to be our DJ for the night and spent many long hours putting a track list together. Stiffener, as usual, did a ton of running around quietly but not unnoticed. Thanks also to Boxer, Stiffy, Kannot Kan and Kan the Kobra for providing various things we need on the day. As for the magazine, thanks for the photos to Kannot Kan who supplied 32GB of photos (yes members, they are around somewhere), Loose Change, Anne Mette Boe via Facebook, Impossible, Deeper Valley, Pecker Checker, Big Head, Not Tonight, Caryl Gurney, and Confucius for filling a gap in the archive for the 70 s. Some of the photos supplied are from Father An*s, so some people have found a way to get them from him. As for the content, that is Sneaky Comer s responsibility and my sincere apologies for any errors or omissions. My almost good lawyer is Boo. Long run hares Big Head and Virginia Slim. On the right is what VS normally looks like after setting a run you have been warned. Zipp and Gypsy sorry guys couldn t resist Most of the mismanagement committee at the last meeting back left to right are Big Head, Virginia Slim, Ad Nauseum, Wet Patch, Sneaky Comer, Herr Zipp (DJ). Front row left to right are Ugly Bum, Shoe Shopper, and Loose Change. Not in photo (practicing committee dance) are Wet Brazilian and Wet n Wild. Medium run hares Shoe Shopper & Wet Patch (above left), Sneaky Comer & Wet n Wild (left), Short run hare Ad Nauseum pictured with Sybil (right). Ugly Bum, the other hare, is camera shy. Page 7 Stiffener (right) and my lovely wife Wet n Wild (also a former GM, left) were in charge of registration.

MESSAGE TO HASH HOUSE HARRIETS FROM HASH HOUSE HARRIERS Dear Harriets, The Hash House Harriers would like to offer you our warmest congratulations on reaching your 2000 th run on Saturday 22 nd October As you know, there is a strong historical connection between our two hashes. In fact it has been claimed that the idea of a ladies hash was first mooted on Monday s Run 600 on Pulau Ubin on 7 th July Then, soon after, the Harriets were officially formed with the first run on Wednesday 17 th October We believe that our first joint run with the Harriets was Run 628 on 14 January 1974 at the Swiss Club. In our archives we do have a couple of pictures of the hare that is purported to have set your first run, Ratnam Narayanasamy, which we thought you might find of interest. One is from around 1973 and the other a recent photo from A glance at your website is evidence enough of a hash that has gone from strength to strength over the past 38 years. We may be accused, just occasionally, of being MCPs, and our brains may be a little further down our bodies than yours, but we do respect a great hash when we see one. The Hash House Harriets is a great hash. We wish you every success with your 2000 th run celebration on Saturday 22 nd October. ON ON Hash House Harriers 7 th October 2011 Page 8

From our archives the Men s Hash. Harriets were invited to the American Bicentennial Men's run on Saturday, July 3rd 1976 (in Johore). There is a snarky comment about "wonders will never cease from our Men's Hash" and a note of warning that ladies will not be looked after on the run (Newsletter #134). Attending this run were Sandra Duffy, Turid Roberg Larsen, Ann Golten, Doris Lane, Mary Jane Soon, Jacqui Anda, Sue Eustace, Mrs Savolainen, Joan Mathewson, Peg Fletcher, Helen Flanagan, Laurine Ford, Shirley Morunga. Newsletter #330 points out that Harriets are NOT invited to SHH Harriers 900th Run celebration on 12th January - "so give the M.C.P.'s a 'ms'!!!" SHHH 50th Anniversary 18/19 Feb 2012 Register before 1 December 2011 Singapore Hash House Harriers Newsletter #330 also thanks the Men's Hash for arranging the Family Day out run on 22nd December "We love you really, M.C.P's" Newsletter #333 - "Singapore men's hash...a normally homo...geneous bunch..." invited Harriets to their on on (not run) on Monday 28th January at 8pm First Run 19/2/1961 Page 9

How it all began the 1970 s The first Harriets was Wednesday October 17, The run started at 5:45pm as the time zone in Singapore at the time was 30 minutes behind where it is now (today, this would make a 6:15pm start). The run started at the corner of Dover Road and Clementi Road, opposite Kent Cinema (now expunged). One of the hares, at least, was Ratnam Narayanasamy from HHHS, there were others as well but no -one can remember who. The notice of the run was published in the HHHS newsletter announcing their 615th run, around the 10th October Page 10

Hash Newsletters Humble beginnings the first 23 runs were announced in the men s hash circular. After having run notices unceremoniously dumped in April 1974, Caryl Gurney had to scramble to produce the Harriet s first run announcement. She got her revenge by using men s stationary! The first actual run report (below) was in August Guidelines for setting trail were first laid out in May 1974 (right). At some point the ladies lost access to a typewriter and for a while in 1975, newsletters were hand -written. The last newsletter from the 1970 s is on the facing page. All these newsletters are stored on our website, see circle reports. Page 16

Confucius Mary Jane Douglas is our longest running active member. As Mary Jane Soon, her first run was at the cricket club very early on. We have that recorded as run # 11 Wednesday 2nd January 1974, 6 times around the Padang. Mary Jane was named by the Harriets at run # 937 on the 24th July From the circle report Mary Jane will be henceforth be known as CONFU- CIUS for her sagacious adage If you run slow, you ll do all the short cuts. I sat down with Mary Jane recently to ask her about the early days. The early runs were set by the men who were willing to help. Ratnam set the first run, and other early helpers from HHHS were Peter Noad and John Sheridan. There were no circles in the early days, people just sat around and talked. Mary Jane s husband, Graeme, thought the circle was started by Lion City Hash which he nick-named the Billy Graham hash due to all the hoo-hah of the circle. Mary Jane thought the Dick and Tits were introduced in the late 80 s during Eileen Davies time as GM (ed: 1991). Hash names were thought to be introduced Page 40

at the same time (ed: also 1991). The famous committee F$%k Me Shoes were probably introduced by Anne Miles (Indianus). Having run since the very beginning, Mary Jane has seen a lot of changes in Singapore. She and Graeme lived in Windsor Drive off Somapah Road, both of which are expunged (quintessential Singapore) now (although rumour has it that Somapah Road is making a comeback). This area is now Changi Business Park and they were very close to the coast. Graeme talks about waking up one morning to earth-moving machinery, which over time led to about 1km of additional land being added between them and the shore. There was lot of jungle, Kampong, and rubber plantation in the early days. Sembawang, Pasir Panjang, and Ponggol were great places to run with little development. There used to be cows on a farm in Bedok Corner which is now a Cold Storage. There was development going on though, and one of the things you had to watch out for was houses would be torn down but the outside sh$thouse would not be closed in, you could be running along and find yourself in the wrong type of hole hares apparently took great delight in setting trail directly over the disused lav. Kamela (Sybil) was another early runner and she was very fast in the early days, although she would often say I am not running well today before disappearing into the distance. Kauko Savolainen used to run in bare feet. Thanks Mary Jane for the memories and all your contributions over the years. Page 41

Sybil What do you need to know about Kamela Chellam (Sybil). A small sampling of photos will tell you a lot. Completely revered in the Harriets, Kamela has run further than anyone. The 2,000th run will be her 1,096th run with the Harriets, outpacing Loose Change, Hooray, and Boo, all in the 800 s. She started very early, exactly when we aren t sure, but the first official record is of her haring run #25 on 10th April, As noted by Confucius, Kamela was a genuine FRB in the early days. She was renowned for Curry on ons, her banter with Armless was a constant source of laughter, and no-one who has seen it will ever forget an episode of her showing her belly in the circle. And, as so well put in the Lion City 25th anniversary magazine is so well respected by the hash that we always honor her by always making sure she is always the highest person when she is in the circle talking (example below). 44 Jo/Not Tonight (with Stiffy at a Deepavali Run October 2005) 1st Run - January 1996 I arrived from UK on a Wednesday around 16:00 and ran my first Harriet's run that night at Rail Mall. Hash Name: It is not because I said "Not Tonight " when asked to pay that first night! It is because my name is Josephine and Napolean did not recommend men to do it before taking strenuous exercise. Stiffy was named later - at a run at the Australian High Commision, Singapore - when he ran in a kangaroo skin with his tail reinforced with coat hanger wire. My favourite runsite is Kent Ridge where I was hare for my 60th Birthday - I was first to set a run over the 3 Peaks from Kent Ridge, over the new Alexandra walkway linking Alkaff Mansion, Henderson Waves bridge over to Mt Faber and back. Stiffy served champagne in Hort park and a big group of US Seamen were very impressed by us harriets (especially Sybil) for going so far! At the circle I became a big breasted blonde hare and given appropriate presents for the elderly and a cake. On on was on-site Dehli serving curry with a sea view (you could still see sea from Kent Ridge in those days). Who would want 'special' birthdays on anything but a Hash night?! THANKS HARRIETS!! Loose Change First run: 1987 Dover Road Car Park Hash Name: Grovelling around under a soft drinks vending machine for Loose Change in Dempsey Road because all around were drying of thirst as the beer truck was late! Favourite run site: Dempsey Road In the early days the Harriet's didn't used to go to Lion City because they were shy and it wasn't the 'done thing' but not so shy to do our own On-On's at good old Palms Wine Bar in HV with Sandy Macintosh (To Do Ron Ron), Jill Shulte (Hard Lay), Black Widow and Sain Jones, plus men of course! Back in the '80's when we had a big open truck we had to use a big set of detachable wooden steps to climb up on to the truck for down-downs' and some poor sod had to take the steps home with them every week. Well one week, Slack Arse & I forgot about the steps in the back of the car and got stopped at the Causeway customs trying to explain why we needed to import these beersoaked steps into Malaysia! Page 44

Big Head First run with Harriets - August it was Posh Duck's birthday run from Jalan Kampong Chantek, the On On was at the British Club, I had been invited by Public Zipp and Herr Zipp, Confucius was our GM, and remember I showered at Father Anus's car; it rained before and during the run. Hashers feared I might not return because the run was so wet and there was a lot of shiggy. Needless to say, I did return and have been a member since. My hash name came from the Harriets 30th Anniversary Party - it was a 70's theme party held on East Coast. No one really knew me at the time because I had only run with the Harriets a few times at that point. As most now know, I enjoy dancing and dressing up. This particular night I wore a big wig and danced the night away in my platform shoes. It was a mystery to most there that evening, who I was (I actually was given an award that night as having the 'Most Hash Spirit'). The following weeks, after much discussion (as does happen in a hash circle), I was named 'Big Head'. The person who initiated my naming was Zipp. Favourite run site: I enjoy jungle runs with a bit of a challenge - most Wet n Wild (Deepavali Run October 2005) Got my name when we were led into a drain when there was a storm n nearly got washed away as a consequence!! Wet Patch named me a couple of weeks later at Jalan Kampong Chantek. I met my lovely husband on the Hash. My favourite run site would be Locke Road (no longer used). Sneaky Comer My first hash run was with Harriets in November 2004 at Geylang. I had met Pantsalone in a bar and she sent me the run location every week from June to November until I finally showed up. Someone asked me what I though of the run and I said flat and easy which might have been a hash name if I wasn t a virgin. I was charged for looking for flat and easy in Geylang. Shoe Shopper named me she was charging the blind bastards with glasses and saw me whip my glasses off and hence I was Sneaky Comer. I got my revenge a few weeks later with a shoe related charge. My favourite run site is Pasir Ris Heavy Vehicle car park because it annoys everyone from f^&king Bukit Timah Road so much. Page 45

Shoe Shopper First run was about August 2004 at Clementi Woods. I passed Not Good Enough several times on the run and couldn't work out how he kept getting ahead of me! I have since become aware of his short-cutting and it's become a standard joke between us with him saying Hello! every time I pass him on a run. I got my hash name for trying to dob on somebody else who had new shoes - not me! Again, Not Good Enough had this backfire on me and named me Shoe Shopper. Too many good run sites to pick a favourite but anything not too far from Bukit Timah suits me! Handbag A chance meeting with Pants Alone led to Handbag turning up at Mayfair Park for a run set by Slowcum & Jack Off. He loved it so much he signed up directly after the run. It didn t take long for him to acquire the Hash name of Handbag after he was seen with his hands all over Goody Bag at the on on. And, the rest as they say is history. An avid hasher, a member of 5 hashes in Singapore & currently Grand Master of Lion City. [Ed: another Pantsalone recruit]. Wet Brazilian When did you first run with Harriets? December 2008 and I think it was a Kannot Kan run out Sembawang area. I just remember it felt like miles away. How did you get your hash name? Not a very exciting naming, just was caught throwing water at Cock Radio and being half Brazilian, therefore Wet Brazilian What is your favourite run site? Blackmore Drive, as it was around the corner from my house. My husband came to my first hash with me but managed to break his foot whilst trying to keep up with me and he has never been back since! 50 The Tits The tits were introduced after run # 903, in late November 1990 (Newsletter # 903). Jill Cutchee was the GM. According to the newsletter Thanks to Jenny Moon we now have a weekly Boob Award, to be worn by the recipient on the run and at the On On. Jill Cutchee was also the first recipient! We have gone through many pairs of tits over the years, one wonders what happens to them. How do you get the tits just turn up to the run, sooner or later you will do something worthy. We don t know where the three tits came from or went to, but left is Skidmark wearing some in the 2000 s. Not Tonight, right, wearing a pair of tits that lasted quite a long time, before disappearing. Page 50

Our current tits are quite voluptuous modeled by Forced Entry (far left), Malfunktion (with cucumber), Handbag (above left), Fat Crashing Bastard (above), Mad Chinaman (left), and Cock Radio (below left). And no, it isn t a punishment that you have to scribe if you get the tits, Cock Radio does it for love. Sometimes the family gets the set below are Wet n Wild with yet another pair of tits that have left service (please check your clothes hamper, they may be in there) and Sneaky Comer with the Dick. Page 51

The Dick The Dickhead of the Week made it s first appearance at run # 939, 7th August 1991 (Newsletter # 939). Eileen Davies was the GM, but with hash names then in use we should say Hot Pants. Ad Nauseum was the first winner, for getting his knickers in a knot and calling OTHER people dickheads (in a cemetery!) The author doesn t know when the actual Dick was purchased and put into use, if you can shed any light on this let me know ( Some aren t sure about the idea at all! Some wear it with style To some it just comes naturally Sometimes even the beer man gets it. Page 52

And for these characters, Dick or Tits alone were insufficient reward if only we could remember their sins. Or be bothered to dig out the newsletter. Page 53

Over the years we have lost a number (no-one knows how many) of Dicks and pairs of tits. Sometimes they are given to visitors who disappear. Sometimes they end up in someone s laundry hamper for a few weeks. On one memorable night (23rd April 2008, run # 1815, at Jurong Heavy Vehicle Car Park) after all hope had been given up for the tits and dick and replacements acquired, the old ones made an appearance and we were blessed with abundance two pairs of tits, two dicks, and one tutu. Not sure where the spares went after that. Page 54

Page 55

Lipstick By the looks of this, a woman has been required in front at all times. Lipstick is only relatively recent as a regular punishment. Harriets visitors are always fair game for lipstick. The US Navy boys who visit periodically have a perverse attraction for lipstick. But regulars are also fair game, despite knowing the rules, Kamela is always watching. Page 56

Miss Sporty was introduced in March 1991, and originally was to make sure you behaved on the run (Newsletter 915). The award seems to have been a kiss from Alan Barnes. The first recipient was Rick Ussher, apparently for leaving his pregnant wife behind to come to the hash. The following week it went to Ray Ang for running in front and not calling (nothing new there) However, a very inadequate and incomplete search of the records suggests that the formal practice of applying lipstick to men caught running in front started in 1988, at run # The new committee with GM Karen Bishop (Cookie) had a Front Runners charge in the newsletter for run # 1288, which became The Lipstick Award in newsletters from # The first recipients were Watergasam & Butt Sucker and were charged by Indianus. It should be no surprise to anyone reading that in the short number of following weeks, lipstick was applied to Ad Nauseum, Stiffy, and Hooray (3 times in 4 weeks). Hooray has done 885 runs and has probably had lipstick 800 times. Why I can t find a photo of him with lipstick is beyond me. There s no point complaining boys, right or wrong, sooner or later you will be lipsticked. Just be thankful they got rid of that toxic bright red one that took paint thinner to get it off. Sometimes it will be wrong. Last week I got lipsticked for coming to the circle in a taxi, having been unable to make the run. I was sitting a few cm in front of my wife, apparently. Should have put her in the front seat. Not that I m holding a grudge. And sadly, with Goodie Bag an infrequent attender now, the days of having your lipstick applied mouth to mouth are gone. Sigh. Page 57

Other Historical Trivia FIRST USE OF HASH NAMES 1991? It isn t completely clear when Harriets started using hash names. Newsletter 920 (March 1991) mentions Lynx (Lynne Higgins). 921 mentions Sybil (Kamela Chellam) and that Alan Barnes was christened at the circle as Done That - Been There s side kick, which implies Sally Barnes already had a hash name at that time. Newsletter 921 also listed the hash names of the committee members for the first time, for those that had names (Hot Pants (Eileen Davies), Deep Purple (Hilary Pretten), and Kanga (Di Reddekopp)). There was then a flurry of naming at run 925 on the 1st May By run 934 (3rd July 1991) everyone on the committee had a hash name. F$%k Me Shoes Were introduced when and by whom? According to Confucius it was Indianus who introduced the requirement for the committee to wear FMS at the circle. Cookie says Lynx had something to do with it. Sadly it is a rule more honored in the breach. A favorite memory is of Kamela charging Dances with Kerbs for wearing F$%k You Boots. Ladies, when you do wear them the boys bow down! Page 58

The tutu, the whinger s baby bottle, the whip, the lipstick bag all have been introduced and used sporadically over the last five years or so. The tutu was introduced in 2008 when Suzee Wong was GM. Always given to men who had done something noteworthy, it was lost for a while after being given to Ratnam (right) at Boo s Big Birthday run in It eventually came back and is used occasionally. The whip was introduced at the same time as a means of enforcing discipline but it didn t really take on. Nor did the baby bottle (whinger of the week) which was bloody hard to skol having two big holes, one of which poured beer on you. Hash Weddings Members will insist on marrying Associate Members on occasion, and the Harriets always put on a good hash wedding. Page 59

The Halloween Run The Halloween Run dates back into the 80 s, starting date not researched as yet. Page 60

2007 Halloween Run Starting in around 2006, the men arranged the Halloween run. They were allowed to run in front and in 2007, gave the ladies their own version of lipstick. Page 61

Breast Cancer Awareness Run An annual highlight for associate members who like to wear a bra, the Breast Cancer Awareness Run in October each year raises funds for the Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation in Singapore. The sight of the hash charging around the city and accosting passers-by for donations must be seen to be believed. The 2011 run was held last Wednesday as run Page 64

The first Breast Cancer Run was on 6 October The Committee talked about wanting to start a charity event as many other hash chapters in Singapore supported a charity with a hash run/event. It was suggested, since we were the Harriets, Breast Cancer would be a good choice for us. The first year the Committee (and others) decorated and sold bras for hashers to run in, we collected donations from those attending the run, and had a few 'games' people paid to enter (all in good fun). We advertised the run (quite heavily the week before - the guys in the club were brilliant in helping us promote the 1st Breast Cancer Run). The run started poolside at a little motel on Balmoral Road, circle and On On were poolside. And yes, there was a drink stop - held in the car park of the Breast Cancer Association on Bukit Timah Road. One of the 'games' to raise donations was 'Guess the Breast' The committee took pictures of all committee members wearing the same shirt and posted the pictures during the circle. I am sure you will recognize why we chose the shirt we did!! Hashers paid $5 to guess the breast of the committee members. I think everyone tried to guess - not sure who actually won the boobie prize :-). Yes, there were prizes for the winners (all associated with breasts). We really had a lot of fun planning the event and I truly believe the hashers there had a great time!!! Big Head Page 65

Harriets Trails Harriets will go almost anywhere as evidenced by the photos on these pages. Except, of course, we NEVER go behind those forbidding red signs. Page 66
