O C T O B E R The Falcon Pride Written By: Junior Falcon Reporters Pumpkin Character Contest Middle School Student Battles Cancer Hannah Riel was diagnosed with cancer late May The type of cancer she has is Leukemia. Leukemia is a type of blood cancer. Leukemia cells are abnormal cells that cannot do what normal blood cells do. One of the teachers at Flambeau School, Mr. Roehl, is putting together lots of fundraisers to raise money for Hannah. Some of the fundraisers are Hats for Hannah, bake sales, bracelets, t-shirts and more. His goal is to raise $2,500 or more. When he reaches that goal Mr. Roehl and some Junior High students and are going to shave their heads. The pumpkin contest was a success! Many great pumpkins were entered. The winners of the contest received a $20 book fair voucher and second place received a $10 book fair voucher. 1st place was Violet Kopacz with Olaf and 2nd place was Sydnee Bishoff with Fancy Nancy. There were 44 pumpkins entered, everyone did a great job! I hope the winners get a good book with their winnings. By: Rylie For more information about fundraiser see Mr. Roehl. By: Eva & Brooke
Cross County Ends Season Interview with Coach Shane Sanderson Question: What are you looking forward to for conference? Response: He has kids that will all make it to conference and he is looking forward to having every kid get their P.R. [personal record]. Question: How do you think your team can do at conference? Response: My team has shown me that they re among some of the best runners in conference. But really how they perform is up to them. Question: How do you like your team this year? Response: This is one of the most fun seasons I ve had coaching. Even though the team is very young. I ve never had a harder working group. BUDDY READING Mrs. Coggins WIN students have been going to Buddy Read with 4YK students. This is a wonderful opportunity to share the love of reading with younger students and to develop a relationship with younger students. Question: Why did you decide to become a cross-country coach? Response: When I got back from Afghanistan I didn t have a job and I knew Flambeau was in need of a coach. I didn t find it, it found me. The middle school boys got 3rd in conference! Cross-country is a fun individual sport, join the team next year! Written by Dane Prohaska! 2
5. THE LOREM IPSUMS FALL 2016 How Do You Take Care of A Guinea Pig? Taking care of a Guinea Pig is hard work. My least favorite job is cleaning their cage out. You should also make sure you clean their cage once a week. Guinea pigs love food like peaches and strawberry tops. My Guinea Pig, Oreo, favorite food is lettuce. They also like to eat hay. So feeding a guinea pig is easy. Feed them every day and watering is easy to do. The water can be changed every few days. Guinea pigs need a big cage to roam in. They also love it when you play with them too. By: Lindsey Guinea Pig Supplies 1. Cage 2. Bedding 3. A Little Castle 4. Toys 5. Water bottle 6. Food dish 7. food 8. 4 Family Reading Night Family reading night was awesome! There were games, refreshments, and crafts. For the games there was put the nose on the pumpkin, drop the pencil in the jar, and the skeleton relay. If you did put the nose on the pumpkin someone would spin you around and then you would try to put the nose, on the pumpkin. If you did, drop the pencil in the jar there was a skinny jar and a fatter jar, most people went for the fatter jar. And now for the skeleton relay you would have the body parts of the skeleton and you would try to put them on the wall before the other team did. The refreshments were great they tasted so yummy! For the crafts you could make a spider or a super hero. Like I said in the beginning, family reading night was awesome! Join us next month! By: Rylie Dog Care Taking care of dogs is not always easy. It is a lot of work sometimes. I have an old dog and a puppy. My older dog has lots of allergies so he needs special food, which is more expensive than regular dog food. I also have a puppy that isn t potty trained yet and likes to bite people because he is teething. To potty train a puppy, when they go to the bathroom inside you stick their nose by it, tell them no, spank them, and put them outside until they go to the bathroom again outside. You can also put a bell on the door and every time you go outside with them you lift up their paw and ring the bell with it then let them outside. Make sure not to give dogs too little or too much food. With puppies it s best to always have food out for them to eat if they get hungry. Taking care of dogs is not that easy, but we love them and in the end it s all worth it. By: Cassidy 4
Top 3 Books To Read Recommended by: Sarah 1.Eva and the New Owl. Eva is a creative little owl with a bunch to talk about. She writes a bunch about her entire life in a series of journals known as the Owl Diaries. Number 4 in the series, this tale is about Haley and the new owl in school, who is best friends with Eva s best friend Lucy. 2.The Dragon Masters Song of the Poison Dragon. It tells a tale of Petra; a know it all with an attitude problem. She has a new interest in bonding with her four-headed dragon, or making friends with the others. 3. Ever After High the Unfairest of Them All. The charmed students of Ever After High are reeling from the legacy day aftermath. The royals and rebels are fighting worse than Do You Know? Which is which? Have you ever gone to a petting zoo and wondered, which is a llama and which is an alpaca? Well, I have the answer! Llamas are usually larger and have less hair than alpacas. And alpacas have short, spear like ears while llamas have long, banana shaped ears. And now you know the differences, you know which is which. FUN FACTS, Llamas are better at protecting than dogs. Alpacas can keep away foxes, even the mere smell of an alpaca will keep a fox away! By Jason ever- so much that it puts Madeline Hatters life in a peril. To save their Happily Ever Afters, the group must come together. 5
Be Careful What You Text When you text be nice with what you say. If you say the wrong thing it can change your life, so be careful what you say to anyone. Be careful and stay safe. Here are some ways you can stay safe. Don t friend any random person. The reason is you could friend the wrong person and they could hack into your phone and find where you live! But if you friend only people you know then you re safe. The thing is you need to only text nice and kind things. Enjoy the friendships that you do have and remember to be a good friend.
