3 Please welcome new member, Ellen Brown, and her wonderful wire, Walter. We met Ellen last year at the Golden Gate Show and she is very excited to be part of our club. Walter is a very happy 10-month-old boy and he is ready to begin his fieldwork. 2

4 GWP Rescue Please check back frequently for GWP's in need of rehoming. You may also wish to check and the National site, for available (and appreciative) GWP's GWPCNC Rescue places Wirehairs who find themselves in need of a new forever home. Prior to being released for adoption, these GWP's will have been examined by a vet, have had any necessary medical treatment, will have been spayed or neutered, and, if over 6 months old, tested for Heartworm. All vaccinations will have been updated. All Rescues, puppies included, are micro-chipped prior to adoption. Each will be assessed to determine the best possible opportunities for a successful placement. Many of our dogs have had basic obedience training and have been family members. Their age ranges from puppy to senior. They come with all manner of life experiences and levels of training, from lonely isolated back yard dogs to finished show champions and personal hunting companions, and everything in between. 8 2010 ADOPTIONS JANUARY, 2010: A great story for the new year: HAAS, the 10 year old gentleman who sought a bit of comfort and companionship, and AGATHA, the 1 1/2 year old happy girl seeking an active family life, were adopted by a father and daughter living in the San Luis Obisbo area. HAAS will have access to 9 acres; AGATHA, in her new home, will have access to over 2000! Updates Hi Cindy Just wanted to give you an update on Agatha. We have renamed her Abby for starters, and she so far has adjusted well. She rode beautifully in the car on the way back home along with Haas. They both are great dogs. We got her home and she is loving her new home, with her comfy new bed, toys, and 2800 acres to play on. She is very excited! It will obviously take time for her to adjust completely, but she has been great. She is very fun, and a big lover. She's perfect for my home. As I am typing to you, she is in the living room gnawing on her new squeaky, and laying on the floor beside my husband. She is a big hit! So thanks again for this amazing animal, she will be well taken care of and very loved. I will send some pictures and an update in a few weeks and let you know how she is doing. Thanks again! Jennifer Andersen Hello Cindy, All good here. We had a nice trip back, uneventful w/ both dogs getting along great. Haas is a great dog. Sooooo easy going and calm. He and I are already big buddies. He's adapted to our small ranch quite well. No prob's at all w/ the 4' fence. A real gentleman inside too although he sneaks on the couch when no one is looking. Not a biggie, pretty funny actually. My wife loves him as much as I do and we both feel fortunate to have found him. Ya gotta love those Wirehairs... Thanks again Sincerely, David C. Gescheider 7

10 Breeders' Corner Smudge (9-month unaltered male) Smudge has a beautiful head (more pictures are forthcoming), he is solid muscle, a tough dog with a sissy side some times, very people oriented and plays as hard as any dog can. He currently lives with 7 other dogs and gets along very well. Smudge will not do well in a kennel situation and he would love to be the only child. He would need someone with patience and maybe experience with a young wirehair. He has a slight skin condition that comes and goes and he has an under bite. 12 Weidenhugel Sylvie v Merlin CD RE MX MXJ NAP NJP NFP Sylvie and Judy Rowley at the 2009 Eukanuba Agility Invitational Judy didn't think she would be able to run Sylvie, on her "latest ankle replacement," because she only got the OK from her doctor one week before the Invitational. Sylvie, at 11 ½ years young, came through for Judy as always. They had one qualifying score and two more clean runs, a little over time, but Judy could not have been happier! Congratulations to two very special ladies! Jay-Mar's On the Road Again RN Judy has another rising star, Roadie. Roadie earned his Rally Novice "B" title in August. 11

13 On January 22, 2010, some club members and their wonderful wires participated in a Wirehaired Pointing Griffon Club Natural Ability Test. Silke Alberts, Sharon Jahn, and Jim Neuffer judged, Gary Bonini and Francis Marsh were handlers, Bob Rittenhouse took fabulous pictures, Kathi Rittenhouse, Cynthia Heiller, and Diane Marsh were very enthusiastic cheer leaders and Theresa Bonini unselfishly assisted the handlers with their (sometimes unruly) participants. The WPGC test is very similar to the NAVADA Natural Ability Test. Participants are judged on their ability to track, point, hunt, retrieve on land and water, cooperation, structure, and cooperation. Points are given for each discipline and Prizes are awarded based on total points. 18 Henry's Class Act RUSSELL TERRIERS Open Dog 1/MBOS 5 HENRY'S CLASS ACT By Bull - Moki. Russell Terriers. Owner: Theresa Bonini & Cynthia Heiller DVM Breeder: Lori Neuffer Theresa and Henry Henry made his AKC debut on January 30, 2010 and he was an instant success. This little fantastic showman had fans waiting for him as he and Theresa left the ring. Henry, an honorary wirehair, was also a big hit at the German Wirehair Pointer bench area. Be sure to watch for this duo at future AKC shows. 17

21 4 Pork Loin or Rib Chops, 1 inch thick (1-1/2) ¼ cup Progresso beef flavored broth or chicken broth (from 32-oz carton) 4 medium potatoes cut into fourths 4 small carrots cut into 1-inch pieces 4 medium onions cut into fourths ¾ ¼ Pork Chop Skillet Dinner Submitted by: Cindy Heiller teaspoon salt teaspoon pepper Chopped fresh parsley, if desired 1. Remove fat from pork. Spray 12-inch nonstick skillet with cooking spray; heat over medium-high heat. Cook pork in skillet about 5 minutes, turning once, until brown. 2. Add broth, potatoes, carrots, and onions to skillet. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Heat to boiling; reduce heat. Cover and simmer about 30 minutes or until vegetables are tender and pork is slightly pink when cut near bone. Sprinkle with parsley 20
