4 GSPCC NATIONAL SPECIALTY 2018 We hosted our National Specialty on August 27 in conjunction with the SD&G Dog Association in Long Sault, Ontario, followed by a Booster show the next day. Our judges were breeder-member Cheryl (Sherry) Thrall, HHH GSPs in Vermont for regular and veteran Sweepstakes and Rui Oliveira of Portugal for the regular specialty classes. This venue is always a great site as it also hosts the Ottawa Valley Pointing Dog Specialty, which provides an added set of points for our exhibitors. 16 Ontario CKC Water Tests July 14 & 15, 2018 We held a weekend of Water Tests at the Binbrook Conservation Area Boat Launch in Hamilton on July 14 and 15 th. It was a hot one, but this did not stop our hard-working judges Mike Foster, Kevin MacWilliams, Tammy Parris and Dennis Penuta who arrived early in the morning to put in a full day. Our judges were helped by Kade MacWilliams and Paul van Vlymen (both spent the weekend manning the launchers and various other tasks) with Rebekah Penuta (our expert photographer) who captured each movement of these skilled dogs. We ran 2 events on Saturday and 2 on Sunday, providing the handlers a chance to title their dogs as CKC requires 3 qualifying scores for a title. Some completed the requirements and moved up to the next level. There were several pointing breeds entered in the tests; a Wirehaired Pointing Griffon, many Weimaraners, a few GSPs, couple of Vizslas and a Pointer. Interesting to note is that although some of the dogs had not seen ducks before and had not retrieved them either, they put on a great show of skills and titled. By the end of Sunday, the owners of these dogs had titles on 2 WDX, 4 WD and 8 WDJ. There are also several more dogs with qualifiers waiting to complete their title. It is a fun sport and we look forward to putting on another set of tests next year. Special thanks to Dennis Penuta for spending Friday preparing the grounds for the tests and for bringing his boat and decoys for the WDX and WD tests. Could not have done it without you!! Special thanks to Kevin MacWilliams for sharing his experience and expertise with us so that we could host these tests; and for also bringing his equipment. 18 GSPCC REGIONAL SPECIALTY - CALEDON We love to boost our breed where possible, so we again hosted our end of the year Regional Specialty with the Caledon Kennel Association on December 1 st with a Booster show the same day. Caledon KC held a Limited Show for Group 1 on Sunday and this gave GSPs 5 sets of points for the weekend (Friday to Sunday). This weekend was extra special as the shows were supported by Royal Canin and they were celebrating a 50 year anniversary, hosting several events. Our judges were Dr. Elliot More for the regular specialty and Rhonda Giannini for Sweepstakes. 23 New Rally Excellent title earned today by our almost 16 months old Greta with two HIC legs! We feel pretty lucky to be able to experience all this with her. Thank you to the Muskoka District Kennel Club for the great event! And most importantly, thank you to our amazing trainer Jennifer Deslauriers who prepares us so well and who Greta adores! We also took in some fun sightseeing We are super proud of our youngster Greta In achieving her FDJ title with a score of 96 In her third leg today! And so happy she even Retrieved the bird half way back to me! We Have learned so much! A big thank you to our Judge today, Mike Leitch, who was knowledgeable and had great tips for us to learn! Also, thank you to the BSCO for holding such a great event! Rich titled in bird planting! New CD title today for Miss Greta! So very proud of this young lady! Two more HIC in her last two legs today! 26 From Maxine Moinier: Joey BISS Am CH QHF s Reminiscing JH (Evan X Etta) finished his AKC Championship going Winners Dog for a 5 point Major at the GSP Club of Reno Specialty Show under Judge Barbara Schwartz. He was Best of Opposite in Sweeps under Judge Sarah Chvilicek. At the 2nd Reno Specialty, Joey went Best of Opposite Sex under Judge Anne Katona for a 5 point Grand Champion Major. Joey was Best in Sweeps under Judge Carol Bratcher. Later in October, Joey won Best of Breed at the GSP Club of Northern Sacramento Valley Specialty Show under Judge Bonnie Threlfall for his second 5 point Grand Champion Major. Joey completed his Junior Hunter title and earned one leg of his Junior Hunter Advanced. He has placed 2nd and 4th place in Open Derby classes in December We are very proud of this youngster and look forward to what the future brings for Joey in 2019!
