1 Cats and kittens available for adoption in October and November BETSY, dark grey, DMH, 3 months Betsy, the beautiful daughter of our darling Lori, was born on June 29, This little dynamo is curious and playful and keeps up with all the adult cats in her foster home. Our hope is that Betsy and her mother, Lori, will be adopted as a pair. BIG KITTY: male / black & white / 14 years This fluffy-tailed gorgeous boy loves to cuddle and be loved once he gets to know you. He also likes to sleep in your bed once you re his friend. He loves to watch the outdoors from a window or screened porch, and chase dry treats around the house and then eat them. He could be adopted with his brother Ratrat, or adopted by himself. BINDI, F, silver tabby, 2 ½ Bindi is a strikingly beautiful silver girl. Born on September 28, 2007, into a loving foster home, Bindi has been a sensitive girl from birth and will be timid and cautious in new. Once she acclimates herself to new people, Bindi is gentle and affectionate. Bindi would do well in a quiet adult household and would also be a fine companion for a family with older children, as long as they were gentle and affectionate with her in return. BUSTOPHER: Male/DLH Grey/4 years During the time Bustopher has been in foster care, he s evolved into a fairly self assured, gentle giant. He still exhibits anxiety in new situations but once he has acclimated he becomes a love bug. Bustopher sleeps at the foot of his foster parents bed and loves to be brushed and petted. This big boy would be happiest as an only cat in a quiet adult home. CINNAMON, F, dilute tortie, 1 year Our darling girl got a rough start in life as the unwanted kitten of an unwanted cat. Well, semi-unwanted: her human was married to a man who barely tolerated his wife's cats. Cinnamon was blissfully unaware of her father's opinion, and grew up into a sweet, happy little teenager. In late April, Cinnamon gave birth to 3 unexpected, stillborn kittens. Two days later, Cinnamon was bleeding and barely moving. The wife risked her husband's wrath and brought Cinnamon to a local emergency hospital. Cinnamon needed immediate surgery to survive. When informed of the (very high) estimated cost of the surgery, the husband told the vet to "just put it out of its misery--i can't afford this kind of thing for a damn CAT." The vet and his staff were horrified and heartsick: how could this happen to the sweet little girl who was purring away and nuzzling the doctor and nurses' hands as they examined her? Thinking fast, the vet called upon FFGW and, happily for all, we stepped in to save Cinnamon's life. She's all recovered and ready for the loving home she has deserved from the start! Cinnamon is very loving with her whole foster family, but is especially partial to her foster mom. She MUST sleep in bed and MUST be cuddled--she just craves the loving contact. No wonder, with everything she's been through! DIGGER, M, grey-brown tabby, 13 ¾ Digger & his brother Houdini were adopted from FFGW as tiny kittens in Originally intended as companions for a single father's young daughter, as the years went by and the girl grew up & left home, it became clear that the boys had wormed their way into their dad's heart and converted him from cat-indifferent to doting cat dad. Sadly, his worsening allergies have left him no choice but to ask FFGW to find the boys a new home. Digger is an outgoing, friendly boy, and quite active & has amazing endurance when it comes to playing. But when at rest, he's a cuddly lap lover (he made his dad's task all the harder by napping in his lap as he filled out our paperwork), & has the endearing habit of falling asleep with his head in your hand. Digger has had excellent medical care through the years and is in fine health. Once in need of dieting, he now needs a little protection so Houdini doesn't get his whole portion. Digger loves his more sedate brother, and
2 adapted well to the cat his girl brought home from college for a time. ELTON AND SIMBA: Males/Buff & Orange/1 year Calling all orange kitty aficionados! These little charmers, adopted from FFGW as kittens, were recently returned due to a cat allergy in the family. The boys are littermates that have never been apart so we re searching for a home where they can remain a terrific twosome. Elton, the buff colored boy, is the lover of the pair and enjoys being cuddled and doted upon between romps. He lost part of his tail in an unfortunate accident but he doesn t seem to notice and his shortened tail gives him quite a unique look. Simba, the deep orange brother, is true to his coloring he s intense, crazily playful and absolutely in love with his food bowl. The boys have been exposed to indoor-outdoor life but we feel they d adjust quickly and easily to a life as indoor kitties. In their short lives they ve proven to be wonderfully adaptable and do well living with older children, gentle dogs and other cats. FOGGY, MIDNIGHT & BO Foggy, F, grey, about 1 Midnight, F, black, DLH, about 1 Bo, M, black & white, DLH, about 1 Foggy, Midnight and their brother Bo were born in one of the poorest (and scariest) neighborhoods we've ever visited. When their mother was poisoned, they were taken in and bottle fed by a kind lady who already had more pets than the city allowed. When a cat-hating neighbor discovered the kittens and threatened to turn her in to the authorities, she contacted FFGW for help and, fortunately, we were able to take the now-teenaged trio into our care. Although these cuties need some time to warm up to strangers, when they do pretty Foggy, sultry Midnight and stunningly handsome Bo are sweet, wonderful, cuddlers and will make a great addition to your home. They are used to other cats and dogs and LOVE to play. GINGERBREAD, M, brown tabby DLH, 3 Handsome, affectionate Gingerbread (a/k/a Ginger) was rescued with his brothers in July When adoption time came, their foster mom found the strength to let 2 kittens go, but not Ginger, who had become her little shadow. All was well until work changes last year caused her to travel several weeks each month. Ginger became even more needy and stressed by his mom's frequent trips. Unable to change her schedule to Ginger's liking, she asked FFGW to find him a new home. We are happy to report that Ginger has made an awesomely swift adjustment to his multicatand dog-foster home. Not only that, he has recovered a genuine joie de vivre-especially when cat nip mice are involved! HELEN OF TROY: Female/White/4-5 years Some years ago, Helen was rescued as a young unwed mother fending for her litter of beautiful kittens. FFGW was delighted when Helen was adopted into a good home, but, unfortunately, Helen s family has decided to move across country so Helen is once again searching for the forever home she wants and needs so much. Helen is a gorgeous kitty with pristine silky white fur and striking odd-colored eyes. She s initially a little shy but she becomes more friendly and outgoing as she feels secure and familiar with her people and surroundings. We think Helen would be fine with other cats or equally happy as the only princess in the palace. She does require a quiet, adult home and a lifetime of love. HOUDINI, M, grey-brown tabby, 13 ¾ Houdini & his brother Digger were adopted from FFGW as tiny kittens in Originally intended as companions for a single father's young daughter, as the years went by and the girl grew up & left home, it became clear that the boys had wormed their way into their dad's heart and converted him from cat-indifferent to doting cat dad. Sadly, his worsening allergies have left him no choice but to ask FFGW to find the boys a new home. No longer tiny on any scale, a recent senior wellness checkup shows that gentle giant Houdini is in excellent health-- and has made great progress scaling his weight down from the 20s to a solid 18 pounds! A quiet, contemplative fellow, Houdini loves being petted-especially on his tummy, and occasionally gives his dad a special treat by climbing up on the couch to share a nap by his side. Houdini needs a quiet, adult household and should continue on his gentle weight loss regimen (achieved by portion control) for a gradual few more pounds. Houdini loves his brother and adapted well to the cat his girl brought home from college for a time. INKY& SHADOW, F, black, 1-2 yrs Somewhat shy with strangers, the girls are gentle and full of purrs. Inky, the larger of the pair is more outgoing and curious. As her name implies, little Shadow is more retiring and prefers to let her sister be her spokeskitty. But both kitties LOVE to be petted and sleep with their foster family members at night. IRIS, F, dilute tortie, 1 year Pretty Iris was brought into a city shelter with her sisters when they were tiny, motherless infants. They were too young to be adopted and scheduled for euthanasia. Thankfully, a legendary local specialist in neonatal kitten care raced to the shelter, brought them home, and cared for them round the clock.. She is a little shy with strangers and not at all fond of adoptions fairs, But truly, among trusted humans, she is an adorable, loving girl.. Iris is totally used
3 to the company of dogs, although we can't say that she is a true dog lover. We think our little princess is truly something special-and we know you will too! Iris would love to be adopted with her foster sister, Faith. JAZZ: Male/Black/2-3 years Jazz and sister Bindi (also listed for adoption) love to hang out with more shy brothers Moe and Curly. Jazz loves belly rubs and long back scratches. He s not overly fond of being picked up and held but he s beginning to tolerate it better now. His favorite toys are mice, straws and bouncy balls. He s make a great companion kitty in a quiet adult home. JESSE: Female/ Black & White/8 years This live wire would be fantastic in a home with lots of action. Jesse loves to play and interact with people, but isn t fond of other cats. She s very friendly and has a mind of her own. Jessie URGENTLY needs a home of her own, as her foster mom of almost 7 years (!!!) is moving and cannot take Jessie with her. A forever home ASAP will soften the blow of losing the only home and mommy Jessie remembers." LILLY, F, gray & white tabby, 12+ (b. 1998) Lilly is a lost soul in need of a truly special someone to embrace her and help her recover her purr. Adopted as a kitten in 1998 as the first cat of a loving couple, Lilly was a beloved and pampered only kitty. After a while, her humans, now converts to the wonder of cats, decided to add a playful young male kitty to the family. Lilly seemed to get along with the new kitten, but after he was part of the family for a few years, Lilly started rejecting her little brother and began having litterbox lapses. It turned out that Lilly had hyperthyroidism (too much thyroid hormone in her body), which can sometimes cause cats to develop behavior problems. Unfortunately, Lilly's adopters weren't able to medicate her to see if controlling her thyroid levels would help the behavior issue, and opted to return her to FFGW. Lilly has had radioactive iodine therapy, which has cured her hyperthyroidism, and has undergone extensive litterbox reconditioning here at VCA Barcroft. Her doctors and FFGW believe that she is now a good candidate for adoption and would love to see her in a home instead of spending her approaching golden years in a hospital cage. LORI, F, dark grey, 1 year We would love to know how this petite princess of a cat found her way to a fire station in far western Loudoun County. Happily for all of us, Lori caught the eye (and won the heart) of one of the fire fighters, who took her to the vet and was dismayed to find that the tiny, loving little girl was quite pregnant. Through a rescue squad connection, Lori's benefactor found FFGW and we were able to get her into foster care just days before she gave birth to 3 adorable babies. Lori is an extraordinarily devoted and protective mommy, and, to quote her very experienced FFGW foster mom, is "probably the sweetest kitty I have ever met." Lori is just a baby herself, but would love to be adopted with her daughter Betsy. LUCKY, F, gray tabby, DOLLEY, F, calico, SUNNY, M, orange & white, all months Sisters Dolley and Lucky and their brother, Sunny, were born just yards from a busy highway to a young feral cat who had no idea that she had chosen a deadly place to raise her kittens. Momma has been relocated to a barn, while her babies are living the good life indoors. SUNNY is everybody's sweetheart, a handsome fellow with dazzling green eyes. Sister DOLLEY is a sweet, curious girl who is interested in-and into-everything. LUCKY: once she figures out that you aren't going to mess with her eye, she melts quickly and can match her siblings' sweetness! MARLEY & PARKER: Males/Orange Tabby/Brown Tabby w/white /1-2 years These incredibly handsome brothers are being placed for adoption by their owner who he feels he can no longer care for them. The boys are both very playful, active youngsters who exhibit endless curiosity and a penchant for climbing. This twosome is a balanced pair: Marley tends to be quieter and desires more alone time while Parker is more outgoing and seeks lots of human attention and cuddles. Marley and Parker would be perfect for anyone seeking easy going, fun loving, cute-as-buttons kitties who have lived their entire lives as inside guys. MUDDY: Female/Tortie/1-2 years Rescued with her one surviving kitten from a dire situation. Muddy s kitten was adopted, but little Muddy is still awaiting a forever home more than a year later. She s shy with new people but she s a gentle soul who loves to be petted and adores her foster daddy. Please give this little former mom a chance to experience love and a home of her own. PURRCY: Male/Silver Gray Tabby DLH/+/- 3 years This sweetest of all purr-babies was left behind when his family moved away and left him behind to fend for himself. Neighbors were able to feed him but he was so frightened by his abandonment to the perils of the outdoors that it took him time to trust humans again. Purrcy is adjusting well to life in his FFGW foster home although he still prefers to watch the world go by from the safety of under the bed or behind a sofa. Even though he s still a bit shy in his new foster home, Purrcy loves to be petted and brushed and will cry out to his foster mom for attention. She reports that his purr is full and rich when he gets the love he so desperately wants. Purrcy needs a home where he ll be allowed to adjust to his new surroundings at his own pace. Once he feels secure his inner love bug emerges.
4 RATRAT: male / black & white / 14 years This quiet sweetie loves attention from the people he knows. He can be a bit shy at first with strangers, and needs a quiet, adult home where he can get to know you and give his entire heart to you. He would like to find a home with his brother Big Kitty, but could also be adopted by himself. Ratrat loves to watch outdoor life and loves vegetables! SABINA: Female/Gray & White/3-4 years Unfortunately, dear Sabina lost her home when her mommy moved to India and left her behind...at first, temporarily, but as the weeks turned into months, the connection was broken and Sabina's mommy no longer wanted plump little big gray and white girl. Sabina is a one person cat who thrives in a quiet, adult home with a regular routine. She's funny and talkative and quite affectionate once she overcomes her initial shyness. Although she doesn't like to be held, she does like to be petted and brushed. Sabina should be an only cat. challenge of a smart, playful, strong willed kitty wrapped in a soft white package. TOBY: Male/Gray Tabby w/white/6 years Dear little Toby was a Feline Foundation adoptee who was returned to us because his owner underwent major surgery and no family member was able to take care of the fellow. Toby bonded to his older female human to the point of following her around like a puppy dog. He doesn t like a lot of people around and prefers to stay in the background if company comes. He s cautious and shy in new situations but he s a diamond in the rough and will pay the patient human back with endless love and loyalty. Please give this boy a chance to shine again. SERENA,F, tortie, about 1 Lovely, lucky Serena! The lovely is obvious to anyone who sees this sweet little girl, but the lucky takes some explaining. We first heard about Serena in an with this subject line: "Pregnant cat will be euthanized tonight if rescue not found." Serena was so sweet that she been held back from the euthanasia room by staff for more than a month, but the discovery of her pregnancy meant she had to go. We immediately called the shelter, hoping it was not too late. We went into hyperdrive and that night, a shelter staffer delivered lucky Serena to her foster home. Four days later, our lucky lady gave birth to four kittens. Sadly, only one of the babies survived. (He's lucky too: he was adopted by his foster family!) Serena is a wonderful loving girl who is used to cats and the attentions of four young girls. Why not try your luck and add her to your family?! SURAYA: Female/White/1 Year This pristine white beauty has lived through a myriad of challenges in her short year of life. Although she was evidently loved in her former life, she was not spayed by her owners and nearly died in labor while attempting to give birth to a litter of kittens. Thankfully, she was rushed to an emergency veterinary facility where FFGW took over her care and medical expenses then transferred her to a foster home when she was declared medically sound enough to leave the hospital. She was dubbed Suraya, which is Persian for princess, because of her incredible beauty and the hope that she ll become someone s little princess and live happily ever after. Suraya s huge golden eyes radiate her intelligence and zest for life. She s active, curious and very friendly, although she has a definite opinion about how she expresses her affection. Suraya would probably be happiest as an only cat with a human who adores the
