3 PIGEON SECTION To be judged at 9.30am on Saturday 20 October Birds to be penned by 9.00am This Show is held in accordance with the rules of the National Pigeon Association, with the exception of the Flying Pigeons Sections. The Racing Pigeon section is held in accordance with the Royal Pigeon Racing Association. All birds except Flying Tipplers, Birmingham Rollers, West of England Flying Tumblers, Racing Homers and imported birds rung with the appropriate ring of the governing body of country of origin, must wear the ring of the National Pigeon Association. The entry fee for all classes is 2.00 with a minimum entry fee of 6 (for the first 3 entries). 7 POULTRY SECTION YORKSHIRE POULTRY CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW (Incorporating the Area shows of the Rare Breed, Leghorn, RIR, Wyandotte, Australorp, Appenzeller, Plymouth Rock, and Belgian Clubs) To be judged at 9.00am on Sunday 21 October Birds to be penned by 8.30am DEFRA RULES: Please cleanse & disinfect show cages, crates or baskets before coming to the Show and on your return home, before using to hold any other bird. Exhibitors are not permitted to enter a bird that has been brought into the UK in the 28 days prior to the Show. Exhibitors are advised to check the current fowl pest regulations before entering. If a Judge is ill or unable to judge in any other circumstances, the Society reserves the right to engage an additional Judge. Under no circumstances must an exhibit be removed before 4.30 pm. Classes with under 4 entries may be transferred within breed, type or to a Transfer Class. 12 RABBITS Judging will commence at 9am on Saturday 20 October ALL EXHIBITORS IN THE RABBIT SECTION MUST BE MEMBERS OF THE BRITISH RABBIT COUNCIL Entries in the Rabbit Classes must be received by Friday 7 September ENTRY FEES The entry fee is 3.00 per block entry with a minimum entry fee of 6.00 (for the first 2 Rabbits entered). Each subsequent rabbit entered will be 3.00 A BRC Levy of 50p per exhibitor must also be paid by each exhibitor. All photographs must now be A4 in size - No larger, no smaller - and must fit within an A4 mounting which will be provided by stewards when the photograph is submitted as an entry to be staged. These will then be placed in a clear A4 plastic sleeve (also provided). Each competitor must provide a short narrative on a sticky label (not to exceed 20mm in H. x 80mm in L) relating to the subject of the photo. Stewards will place the label on the outside of the clear sleeve at the top centre of mount. The mounts provided will be identical - the border area measures 30mm x 25mm with an inside area of 250mm in L x 150mm in H, or vice versa. Plain Honey Cake (Class 16) RECIPES & METHODS Ingredients: 225gms (8oz) Self-Raising Flour 2 eggs (medium) 115gms (4oz) Butter Pinch of Salt 225gms (8oz) Honey (any variety) Milk if required Method: 1. Cream the butter and honey together. 2. Beat the eggs well and add alternatively with sifted flour and salt. Add a little milk if required. 3. Bake in a well buttered 7 tin (or thereabouts) for up to 1½ hours in a moderate oven. 18 GENERAL REGULATIONS (Applicable to all sections) Show Opening Times Saturday 20 October - 9am 5pm Sunday 21 October - 9am 5pm 1 ENTRY FEES / TICKETS (PASSES) Entry fees are shown at the front of each section and on the entry form (including a minimum spend). These will only be refunded in the event of cancellation of classes owing to insufficient entries or exhibitors, or to exhibitors who present a valid veterinary certificate (with the exhibitor pack relating to the entry) by Friday 26 October. All fees will be forfeited by any exhibitor who fails to exhibit. A maximum of 4 tickets will be supplied per exhibitor. 2 SUBSTITUTION OF ENTRIES Substitution of entries can be made until the entry close date after which time this may be done at the discretion of the Livestock & Entries Department. (This does not apply to the Cattle section see specific Reg. 27). 3 CANCELLATION OF ENTRIES The Society reserves the right to refuse any entry without explanation. 4 ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF ENTRIES The Livestock & Entries Office will acknowledge the receipt of all entries in the form of a ticket letter 7-10 days prior to the Show; this will have a detailed list of entries that you have made, along with all relevant tickets and passes that are required for Show. 5 EXHIITOR VEHICLE/CARAVANS All Exhibitor vehicles and caravans must be parked in the specific areas allocated for the purpose. There will be a charge of 20 per caravan or tent without electricity and 40 per caravan with electricity supply. 6 ATTENDANTS ACCOMMODATION The Sir John Dunnington-Jefferson House offers 10 twin rooms (maximum occupancy of 2 people) and 60 single rooms (to be occupied by one person only) together with washing facilities and toilets in the same building. Rooms are secure, each with basic furniture, bed(s) and a mattress. Exhibitors must provide their own bedding. Opening times: 2pm Friday 19 October 6pm Sunday 21 October. There will be a warden on the premises. Exhibitors are NOT allowed to sleep in stalls/pens for safety reasons. 7 DINING FACILITIES Stock Attendants catering facilities with a bar will be situated between the Halls and will be open from Friday 19 October to Sunday 21 October. Details of times will be confirmed nearer the Show. 8 OWNERSHIP OF EXHIBITS All stock should be the property of the exhibitor at the closing date for entries. 9 BREAKING THE RULES Any Exhibitor who contravenes any of the Society s rules or uses unfair means to win a prize will forfeit all prizes and prize money and may be disqualified from attending future shows. 10 DISPUTES In the event of any dispute the decision of the Show Director or Chief Executive shall be final. 11 EMERGENCY VETERINARY TREATMENT It is a condition of entry that the Society s Veterinary Surgeons may treat any animal in an emergency whether or not the owner/exhibitor is present. It is the owner s responsibility to ensure that all animals are fit and well when they enter the showground and an animal may be excluded at any time on Veterinary advice. It is the responsibility of the owner/exhibitor to pay for veterinary treatment at the time of treatment. 12 FITNESS TO TRAVEL/TRANSPORT OF PREGNANT ANIMALS Animals must be fit for the intended journey before the journey starts and must remain sufficiently fit throughout the journey. This means the animal should be healthy enough to tolerate the entire journey it is about to make (including loading, unloading and any journey breaks) with no or very little adverse effect on it and the journey should not cause the animal any suffering or injury. The means of transport must be designed, constructed, maintained and operated so as to avoid injury

19 and suffering and ensure the safety of the animals. A journey includes the period from the loading of the first animal to the unloading of the last animal. Any animal entered in the Show that is not fit to travel should be left at the holding premises. The transport of pregnant animals for whom 90% or more of the expected gestation period has already passed, or who have given birth in the previous week is prohibited. Any animal entered to which these criteria apply should not be brought to the Show under any circumstances. [Council Regulation (EC) 1/2005, implemented by The Welfare of Animals (Transport) (England) Order 2006] 13 PRIZE MONEY The vouchers will be handed to you by the steward. Please go to Hall One Reception desk to cash these in during the Show; vouchers must be cashed before 5pm on Sunday 21 October. Vouchers will NOT be redeemed after the Show. 14 DISPLAY OF EXHIBITS No exhibit may be covered during the show opening hours. Only prize cards and rosettes won at Countryside Live in the current year may be displayed and are displayed at the owner s risk. 15 JUDGING IN THE RINGS Every animal parading in the ring for competition must remain in its class until the final awards of the judges have been made or consent to leave has been sought from the judges and stewards. All exhibitors in a class are under the control of the judge until such time as they leave the ring upon completion of the class. 16 CHAMPIONSHIPS First prize winners must where eligible compete for the Championship prizes. Second prize winners must be ready to compete if required. 17 PROTESTS Any exhibitor wishing to make a protest or objection must do so in writing to the Chief Executive of the Yorkshire Agricultural Society before 6pm on the day judging takes place. If the protest relates to false entry or description, it will be accepted if made within seven days after the close of show. All protests must state the specific grounds and the sum of 40 must be deposited with the Chief Executive at the time. All protests will be considered by a Committee, normally chaired by the Show Director. The decision of the Committee will be final. If the protest is determined against the objector their deposit will be forfeited unless in the opinion of the Committee there existed good and reasonable grounds for the protest, when the deposit may be returned. If the protest is determined against the objector they may also be liable to the Organisers for the amount of costs and expenses incurred, unless in the opinion of the Committee there existed good and reasonable ground for protest. 18 PASSES Exhibitors will be issued with exhibitor pass/es. All passes for all exhibitors are issued at the discretion of the Organiser. 19 DOGS Dogs are not allowed in the showground during the show with the exception of registered assistance dogs or dogs that are part of a CSL display team. 20 CRUELTY TO ANIMALS Any person causing suffering or any form of cruelty to animals will incur a lifetime ban on returning to the Show. This applies to any owner, rider, exhibitor, handler, or member of the public, who causes any animal unnecessary suffering or duress, day or night, anywhere on the showground or the vehicle parks. Should any person/s be considered to be breaking this rule, the appropriate YAS Officials will be informed and immediate action will be taken. 21 HEALTH & SAFETY All staff, contractors, exhibitors and visitors must comply with the Health & Safety Policy for Countryside Live 2018 and the legal requirements placed on them. It is the responsibility of all exhibitors to familiarise themselves with the Health and Safety Policy for the Show and to comply with any requirements placed on them whilst competing at the Show. Livestock must be under the control of a competent handler at all times and they must use approved restraints which are safe and fit for purpose. Movements on the Showground include areas used by the public and from the cattle lines into the judging rings and handlers must ensure adequate safeguards are in place to prevent an animal from escaping. If the handler is a junior handler (under 18 years of age) they must be supervised by an experienced adult handler who is able to restrain/control the animal in an emergency.

20 Livestock exhibitors will indemnify the Yorkshire Agricultural Society for any losses suffered as a result of their failure to provide competent handlers in accordance with these regulations and the GYS Health and Safety Policy. 22 DISCLAIMER The Society and its officers shall not be responsible for any accident, damage or loss however caused that may occur to any exhibitor or his servant or to any animal, article, or property exhibited or brought onto the Showground by him. Each exhibitor shall indemnify the Society from and against all actions, suits, expenses or claims on account of or in respect of any such damage or injury however caused. 23 CANCELLATION OR POSTPONEMENT The Organisers reserve the right to postpone or cancel the Show or a particular event for safety reasons or any other unforeseen circumstances that may dictate at the time. 24 EXHIBITORS DETAILS Exhibitors details may appear in the Show Catalogue. Details of prize winning animals may also be sent to local media outlets. This is a condition of entering the Show. PUBLICITY AND DATA PROTECTION The Society shall have permission to do the following: a) store, process and retain, including electronically, all data and personal information provided by exhibitors, for the purposes of operating the Show, maintaining appropriate records and communicating with the exhibitor in future concerning any of the Society s activities; b) publicise the names and home locations of exhibitors, including but not limited to prize winners, in Show catalogues, on the Show website and elsewhere as part of the operation and promotion of the Show and future shows; c) photograph any exhibitor or other person on the Showground and store and use the resulting image (including edited or altered versions) for any of the Society s commercial or non-commercial purposes in all and any media, including, without limitation, use in promotional materials and on the Society s website, or supply to carefully selected third parties for use for their own purposes. The Society shall own the copyright in any such images. PIGEON SPECIFIC REGULATIONS 25 All exhibitors must conform to the current DEFRA Regulations appertaining to the Exhibition of Pigeons. Please refer to the conditions outlined in the enclosed Newcastle Disease Declaration. 26 Schedules and entry forms may be obtained from the Livestock & Entries Office, Yorkshire Agricultural Society, Great Yorkshire Showground, Harrogate, HG2 8NZ and must be completed and returned together with a remittance for all charges to reach the Livestock & Entries Office by the stated entry close date. 27 There is a minimum entry fee of 6.00 (for 3 entries); subsequent entries are charged at Exhibitor tickets will be allocated on the basis of 1 one-day pass per 6.00 paid in entry fees. 28 All pigeons must be in the Showground and penned before 9.00 am on Saturday of the Show. Birds must remain penned until 5.00pm on the day of the Pigeon Show. All vehicles delivering birds onto the Showground must drop off their birds and be parked in the designated Pigeon Exhibitors car park, before the Show opens to the public at 9.00am. 29 The Society s Stewards will arrange to pen, un-pen and feed and water the birds, and stage exhibits. Exhibitors and others, not part of the staff or engaged in the business of the Show, will not be permitted to pen or un-pen their birds, stage exhibits or remain in any shed, until it be open to the public on completion of the judging. This will be strictly enforced. Exhibitors must satisfy themselves as to the adequacy and suitability of penning arrangements and the like and while the Society will endeavour to provide adequate penning, birds are brought onto the Showground at the risk, in all respects, of exhibitors and on the express condition that the Society shall accept no liability or responsibility in respect of penning arrangements. 30 In the event of the number of entries in any class falling below three, or the number of exhibitors being less than two, the class may be cancelled. 31 All exhibits shall be the bona fide property of the exhibitor. When any exhibit entered at this Show is the property of more than one owner, the same may be entered in the name of one of the proprietors.

21 32 No exhibit can be entered in more than one class, except Challenge Classes, unless stated. 33 If, for any reason a judge is unable to attend, the Society reserves the right to appoint a substitute. 34 Unhealthy birds must not be exhibited. Such entries will be immediately returned to the owners and the entry fees forfeited. 35 To enable awarding of the Fancy Championship & Special Awards, each judge will hand the pen number of the best adult and the best current year bird in his section to the Chief Steward. PIGEONS - BIOSECURITY CONTROLS In addition to the general Biosecurity in place you must comply with the following additional controls as part of exhibiting (Pigeons/Poultry) at Countryside Live. 1. All birds entered at Countryside Live should be health checked before travelling to the event. 2. Cages, crates, baskets or other containers used to bring birds to Countryside Live must be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected before your journey. Cages etc, which are visibly contaminated with bird droppings or other material of bird origin, other than faeces produced during transportation of the birds to the event must not be brought onto the Showground. 3. Exhibitors must ensure that visitors are discouraged from touching the birds at all times. 4. POULTRY SPECIFIC REGULATIONS 1 All exhibitors must conform to the current DEFRA Regulations appertaining to the Exhibition of Poultry. The attention of exhibitors is particularly drawn to the following legislation by DEFRA which came into operation on 26 th October 1989:- The Poultry Breeding Flocks and Hatcheries (Registration and Testing) Order 1989 This may apply to your flock. For further information you should contact your local Divisional Veterinary Officer 2 Restrictions on Movement of Poultry to the Show Please refer to the conditions outlined in the enclosed Newcastle Disease Declaration. 3 Schedules and entry forms may be obtained from the Livestock & Entries Office, Yorkshire Agricultural Society, Great Yorkshire Showground, Harrogate, HG2 8NZ, Tel: or and must be completed and returned together with a remittance for all charges to reach the Livestock & Entries Office by the stated entry close date. 4 There is a minimum entry fee of 6.00 (for 3 birds or 4 eggs); subsequent entries are charged at 2.00 per bird or 1.50 per egg. Exhibitor tickets will be allocated on the basis of 1 one-day pass per 6.00 paid in entry fees. 5 All Poultry must be in the Showground and penned by 8.30 am on Sunday of Show. Birds must remain penned until 5pm on the day of the Poultry Show. All vehicles delivering birds on to the Showground must drop off their birds and be parked in the designated Pigeon Exhibitors car park, before the Show opens to the public at 9.00am. 6 It is the responsibility of the owners to feed and water their birds. The Society s Stewards will stage exhibits. Exhibitors and others, not acting as stewards or engaged in the business of the Show, will not be permitted to pen or un-pen their birds, stage exhibits or remain in any shed, until it be open to the public on completion of judging. Exhibitors must satisfy themselves as to the adequacy and suitability of penning arrangements and the like and while the Society will endeavour to provide adequate penning, birds are brought onto the Showground at the risk, in all respects, of exhibitors and on the express condition that the Society shall accept no liability or responsibility in respect of penning arrangements.. 7 Unhealthy birds must not be exhibited. Such entries will be immediately returned to the owners and the entry fees forfeited. 8 The title Male or Female indicates Cock or Cockerel or Hen or Pullet.

22 9 In the event of the number of entries in any class falling below three, or the number of exhibitors being less than two, the class may be cancelled. 10 All exhibits shall be bona fide property of the exhibitor. When any exhibit entered at the Show of this Society is the property of more than one owner, the same may be entered in the name of one of the proprietors. 11 No exhibit can be entered in more than once class. 12 If for any reason a judge be unable to act the Society reserves the right to appoint a substitute. POULTRY BIOSECURITY CONTROLS In addition to the general Biosecurity in place you must comply with the following additional controls as part of exhibiting (Pigeons/Poultry) at Countryside Live. 1. All birds entered at Countryside Live should be health checked before travelling to the event. 2. Cages, crates, baskets or other containers used to bring birds to Countryside Live must be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected before your journey. Cages etc, which are visibly contaminated with bird droppings or other material of bird origin, other than faeces produced during transportation of the birds to the event must not be brought onto the Showground. 3. Exhibitors must ensure that visitors are discouraged from touching the birds at all times. 4. RABBIT SPECIFIC R E GULA T I ONS (The General Show Regulations below also apply to this section) 1 Myxomatosis Vaccination All exhibitors must conform to the current DEFRA Regulations regarding the exhibition of Rabbits. It is recommended that all rabbits exhibited at the Show should have been vaccinated against myxomatosis within the twelve months preceding the first day of the Show. 2 Penning All rabbits must be penned by 8.30am on Saturday of Show. Exhibits may be delivered to the Rabbit Gate in Grey Park for transportation to the Rabbit Building by trolley. All vehicles must be parked before rabbits are penned. There will be no access onto the actual showground itself for the delivery of exhibits. Exhibitors must ensure that the rabbits are transported in a rigid, well ventilated carrying basket of sufficient size for the type of rabbit. After penning, only stewards and judges will be permitted to unpen any exhibit. Water will be provided for the animals by the stewards. The Society will provide pens for rabbits, and exhibitors must satisfy themselves as to the adequacy and suitability of the penning arrangements. Rabbits are bought onto the Showground at the risk of exhibitors and the Society will not accept liability or responsibility in respect of penning arrangements. Rabbits must NOT be left on the showground on the Saturday evening. Judging will commence at 9am on Saturday of Show.
