The FCAQI supplied the Our Forgotten Winged Allies for pigeons and their handlers. The 11th Light Horse Caboolture Troop supplied the War Animals plaque and the RAAF Dog Handlers Assoc provided theirs.

2 ISSUE SCRATCHINGS FROM THE SECRETARY During the writing of the last edition I contacted all the clubs to request results. I would really like to thank the show managers or club secretaries who have sent their club s show results through. It is very much appreciated. Keep them coming. Could all club secretaries or treasurers please return their completed 2015 affiliation forms to me as soon as possible. The information listed on these forms is used to compile the 2015 calendar club contacts and show dates. Forms need to be returned to me before 31st October to ensure the printing timeframes can be met. Preparation has started on the 2015 FCAQI calendar. If your club wants to include an advert for its show or auction, information needs to be supplied as soon as possible. The cut off date for information to be supplied is 31st October. This is to ensure our printing timeframe is met and the calendar is available prior to Christmas. Our 2nd edition of the Guidelines for Judging and Stewarding Exhibition Poultry has been printed and is now available for purchase at a cost of $15 posted. These are selling very well, so if you want one, get in quick before they are all gone. A wonderful collaboration of local clubs and FCAQI PAGE 2 made the Farm Fantastic stall a great hit - albeit a wet one. Thank you to Kris Jenkins for organising this and encouraging three local clubs to become involved on the day. More days like this need to happen and we will certainly be working towards this in the future. Don t forget that we are on Facebook, so come and like us and help us promote the exhibition fancy to everyone. Until next time... Any club wishing to advertise in this calendar will need to supply their artwork before the end of October to ensure we meet the printing deadlines. If you want the FCAQI to create an advert for your club, just let us know when you pay for your advertising. Advertising is filling quickly and there is only November and December available for advertising opposite the calendar months. There is still plenty of space available before and after the calendar months however. The calendar will be printed in full colour again this year and will be available for purchase from the middle of December for $20 posted. All advertising must be paid for before the calendar goes to print. Clubs can still purchase bulk copies at $20 per calendar and we will post direct to each club member.

5 ISSUE GUIDELINES - 2ND EDITION PAGE 5 The 2nd edition of the Judging and Stewarding Guidelines is now available. A5 size and wire bound with 80 pages including colour photos and black and white illustrations. $15 ORDER FORM It is a significant upgrade on the first edition in terms of both text and quality of presentation. It includes the FCAQI Judges Code of Ethics, Judging Tips, Judges Online Ethics, Judging Waterfowl, Judging Eggs, Stewards and Their Important Role, Words of Wisdom from Esteemed Judges and notes about common defects and nomenclature. 6 FEATHER CLUBS ASSOCIATION OF QUEENSLAND INC PAGE 6 ANZAC CENTENARY COMMEMORATIVE EVENT The Caboolture Historical Village is where the FCAQI Poultry and Aviculture Museum is located. On the 6th of September an ANZAC centenary commemoration event was held by the 11th Light Horse Caboolture Troop and Military Museum Association Inc. This event was to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of World War One. It also celebrated the 113th birthday of the Australian National Flag. There was a grand parade that had many marching bands along with cadets from the Army and Navy and Light Horse soldiers on their horses in full regalia. Simpson and his donkey were even there as well as RaDHA the German Shepherd, the RAAF Dog Handlers Association mascot! Included in the parade were various vintage war time vehicles. The FCAQI was involved in this wonderful day by unveiling the Animals Used In Warfare memorial. Three brass plaques were unveiled on the day. The FCAQI supplied the plaque that is to remember Our Forgotten Winged-Allies for all the war pigeons and their handlers. A whole wing of our Poultry & Avicultural Museum is dedicated to pigeons in warfare. It is well worth seeing next time you are in the area. The brass plaque that was unveiled on 6th September, 2014.

Grand Champion Fowl of Show Photo taken by Len Leech Source: Facebook In the past we have started the day with either a frosty morning, or over cast and drizzly rain, this year nothing, Toowoomba really turned on the beautiful weather, surprising a lot of visitors. There is a dedicated number of exhibitors who turn up every year and this kind of support is always appreciated, and we always welcome visitors. We had a total of 60 exhibitors enter the show with 21 new exhibitors and 15 junior exhibitors. This year was a Wyandotte Feature. This was made possible through the generous support of the WYANDOTTE CLUB OF AUSTRALIA - QUEENSLAND BRANCH. Again records were broken, the most soft feather bantams, 356 in total and the largest total of poultry entries ever, 882. In total for the day 955 entries, so our judges had their work cut out for them, Neale McLellan judged all the Wyandottes, 45 large and 101 bantams; Bob Waite 148 large soft feather (excluding Wyandottes); Noel Nelson 255 soft feather bantam (excluding Wyandottes); Errol Hetherington 52 large hard feather and 25 pairs; Olivia Hetherington 169 hard feather bantam; Keith Reimers 87 waterfowl and the juniors exhibitors; and Charlie Zwoerner 73 Pigeons. The show started well, no major hiccups, until it was realised someone had entered some of their bantam Wyandottes in the large classes. So it was left in the capable hands of our resident Wyandotte breeder Jack Murphy to sort it out during judging. Otherwise the day went well, no one went hungry, thanks to Bernice Jannusch, Lisa Gardner, Lyn Moore and her children Justin and Caitlyn who always do a wonderful job in the canteen, great bacon & egg burgers! We are blessed to have connections with Kathryn from Treasure Pics in Kingaroy, who comes down and takes photos of the winning birds on the day, prints then frames them. These are then presented as trophies on the day. It is a fabulous way to remember a win. Kathryn does a magnificent job and also does private work on the day of the show. In total we hand out over $2 000 worth of sashes, photo, trophies and cash. As a club we work hard to raise money through our two auctions in May and September each year so we can put it back into our hobby, put on a great show, as well as supporting three local agricultural shows, Pittsworth, Goombungee and Crows Nest. I met up with Morag Illingworth at a local agricultural show, she was a newcomer to poultry showing, and she was encouraged to enter her fowls into our annual show (this would be her second show). She didn t believe her birds were good enough, though a number of exhibitors had expressed their views on how good her birds were. She was totally surprised while watching Olivia Hetherington judging her little Pit cock which won Best Pit Clean Face Bantam, Best Pit Bantam and Reserve Champion Hard Feather Bantam. 19 ISSUE PAGE Noel Matthews Memorial Show at Rosewood This year s Noel Matthews Memorial Show at Rosewood on 12 July was another successful show with 1161 entries: 197 Anconas, 48 Andalusians, 158 Indian Game, 216 Leghorns, 64 Minorcas, 268 Pekins and 210 Rhode Islands. If you take into account that there were 102 pairs entered across the 7 breeds, this gives a total of 1263 birds entered.
