Dr. Luminiţa Smaranda Iancu (Ob Credit number 6 50 Total hours per semester * If the discipline has more semesters of study, should fill in for each semester 13 Department Profile Medicale II Total C** S L P Specialisation or practical works ** C curs, L laboratories activities, P project Knowledges prior to Microbiology courses: Cell biology, biochemistry, physiology, biophysics, immunology, genetics; Lectures and laboratories from the first semester Objectives of the discipline The main objective of the medical microbiology is to teach the future physician to see the microorganism with the eyes of the mind and to think as a microbiologist: - A. to know where and what kind of microorganisms are present (on and in the own body, on and in the patient s body, even they are not having one infectious diseases, on and in environment); - B. which are the ways through which these microorganisms are moving from a place to another one and what kind of consequences can have this contamination; - C. to know the risk of microbial contamination in medical and surgery practice; - D. to understand the role of the microorganisms in conditioning the health / sickness state.
2 Lectures Analytical Curricula For the main genus implicated in human patholohy will be teach: brief definition, microscopical and cultivation particularities, resistance to environment factors, pathogenicity factors, list of the main diseases, microbiological diagnosis, basic principles regarding treatment and prevention. 1.HACEK grup, Bordetella, Brucella, Pasteurella, Francisella genus. Corynebacterium, Listeria, Erysipelothrix genus.. Bacillus, Clostridium genus and anaerobic non spore forming bacteria. 3.Neisseria and Moraxella genus. 4.Special bacteria (I): Mycobacterium genus; Actinomicetes. 5.Special bacteria (II): Spirochetaes: Treponema, Borrelia, Leptospira. 6.Special bacteria (III): Legionella, Bartonella, Mycoplasma and Chlamydia, and rickettsiae. 7.Viruses: morphology, replication, taxonomy, virus-host relation, bacteriophagi. 8.Picornaviruses, rheoviruses, rabies virus, arboviruses and roboviruses. 9.Orthomyxoviruses, paramyxoviruses, coronaviruses, adenoviruses Herpesviruses. Laboratory diagnosis of leptospirosis. Identification of leptospira. Laboratory examination in syphylis. 7. Special methods to collect samples for virusologic diagnosis. Cultivation of viruses. Identification of viruses. 8. Laboratory dignosis of enterovirosis. Lab diagnosis of rabies. MCQ special bacteriology 9. Laboratory diagnosis of respiratory viral infection. 10. Laboratory diagnosis of viral hepatitis infection. 11. Laboratory diagnossis of HIV infection. 1.Evaluation of virology module MCQ. Nosocomial infection. 13.Slides reviews. 14. The final practical exam. Parasitology (1 hours) 1. Classification of Protozoa. Entamoeba histolytica, Balantidium coli, Giardia lamblia. Trichomonas vaginalis.. Class Trematoda: Fasciola hepatica, Fasciolopsis Buski, Heterophytes and Metagoninus. 3. Class Cestoda: Taenia saginata, Taenia solium, Diphylobothrium latum. 4. Larval Cestodes: Cysticercosis, Hydatidosis. 5. Class Nematoda. Intestinal nematodes: Ascaris lumbricoides, Trichuris trichiura, Strongyloides stercoralis. 6. Class Nematoda: Enterobius vermicularis, Tricinella spiralis. Fungi Competences - to assimilate skills for: 1. avoiding microbial contamination according with different risk condition in medical and surgical practice;. sampling, transporting and preservation of the pathologic products for microbiological examination; 3. smear preparation for bacteriological examination; 4. Gram and Ziehl-Neelsen stains; 5. preliminary identification of the microorganisms involved in human pathology; 6. interpretation of sero-immunological results and interpretation of susceptibility tests results;
4 7. smear for parasites examination; 8. preparation and interpretation of one smear in thick drop; 9. correct interpretation of the significance of one isolate.
