4 AFFIDAVIT IN SUPPORT OF APPLICATION FOR A CENTURY FARM CERTIFICATE STATE OF OREGON County of Washington... ss I, PAUL M. REEDER, being first duly sworn, depose and say as follows: 1. That I was born in Portland, Oregon, on September 13, 1907, and that my father was Paul S Reeder, and my mother Olivia L. Reeder; 2. That Paul S. Reeder was born on Sauvies Island June 30, 1865, and died at Portland, Oregon, in April of 1932; 3. That the parents of Paul S. Reeder were Simon M. Reeder and Catherine Reeder, who immigrated to Oregon and arrived at and settled on Sauvies Island on September 6, 1853; that the said Simon M. Reeder and Catherine Reeder received a donation land claim from the United States Government, being notification No. 6751, the same being recorded in book 449 page 370, Multnomah County Deed Records, Mult nomah County, Oregon; that the said Simon M. Reeder lived on said donation land claim from the date of his arrival in Oregon September 6, 1853 until the time of his death, June 18, 1902; That during that entire period he was in possession of, occupied and farmed the land described in book 449 page 370, Deed Records of Multnomah County, Oregon; 4. That between the dates of June 18, 1902, until her death on November 22, 1905, Catherine Reeder was in possession of, occupied and farmed said donation land claim; 5. That upon her death, there was conveyed to her son, James Lawrence Reeder, said conveyance being by Catherine Reeder, the north one-half of the said donation land claim, save and except a 20 acre tract therein, and the south half of the said donation land claim, and in addition thereto, the 20 acre tract reserved in the north Page 1.

5 one-half, passejd by intestacy to the sons and daughters of Simon M. Reeder and Catherine Reeder, who were, to-wit, F. B. Reeder, Mrs. E M. Bonser, Mrs. Josephine Goodwin, Mrs. Dolly E. Akins, D. S. Reeder, Mary C. Crumbley, Paul S. Reeder and J L. Reeder (see Oregon Reports, 68 Or. 163). 6. That between the years of 1905 and 1918, P. B Reeder and Mrs. Dolly E. Akins, lived upon and farmed tracts Nos. 2 to 8 in the north one-half of the S. M. Reeder donation land claim, and tracts 2 to 8 in the south one-half of the S. M. Reeder donation land claim, being in Sections 26 and 35, Township 3 North, Range 1 West of the W.M., as shown by tracings attached to the Report of Referee filed June 7, 1911, in the suit of F. B. Reeder et al, v. J. L. Reeder, Judgement No , Multnomah County, Oregon; 7. That between 1918 and until the time of his death, April 19, 1930, F. B. Reeder lived upon, was in possession of, and farmed the same land; 8. That between the year of 1905 and 1930, F. B. Reeder ac quired the interest of Josephine Goodwin and Dolly E. Akins in the before described tract, and Paul S, Reeder acquired the interest of E. M. Bonser and D. S Reeder, and a portion of the interest of Mary C. Crumbley; 9. That the property of JP. B. Reeder passed by testacy to Paul S. Reeder upon the former's death, and between the dates of 1930 and 1932, which was the date of the death of Paul S. Reeder, the said Paul S. Reeder was in possession of, operated and farmed said property; 10. That upon the death of Paul S. Reeder, the interest of both F. B. Reeder and Paul S. Reeder passed by testacy to Olivia L. Reeder, and in 1936, Olivia L. Reeder conveyed her interest to this affiant, Paul M. Reeder, reserving to herself 16 acres thereof; Page 2.

That in 1930, this affiant, Paul M Reeder, moved onto, occupied, farmed and was in possession of the lands then owned by my father, Paul S Reeder, and I have continued to reside on, be in the possession of and farm said property from that time until the present? That a description of the property which I own is as follows: Tracts No. 2 to 8 inclusive, in the north half of the S M. Reeder donation land claim, and tracts No. 2 to 7 inclusive, of the south half of the S. M Reeder donation land claim in Sections 26 and 35, Township 3 North, Range 1 West of the W.M., as shown by tracings, attached to the Report of the Referee filed June 7, 1911, in the suit of F. B. Reeder et al, v. J. L. Reeder, Judgment No , Multnomah County Judgment Roll; SAVE AND EXCEPT a tract containing approximately 16 acres reserved by Olivia L. Reeder in her instrument executed in 1936? 12. That the land which I now own and upon which I have lived since 1930 is a portion of the S, M. Reeder donation land claim, con tains approximately 75 acres, and has been in possession of ray fam ily, occupied and farmed by my family since September 6, 1853, to the date of this affidavit; and has produced more than $ of farm products in each of said years. 8 AFFIDAVIT IN SUPPORT OF APPLICATION FOR A CENTURY FARM CERTIFICATE STATE OF OREGON County of Multnomah... ss. 1. EARL REEDER, after being duly sworn, depose and say as follows X. That I was born on the day of, 19, on Sauvies Island; 2. That my father was J. L- Reeder and my mother was Mary R. Reeder; 3. That my father was born August 31, 1851, and died August 14, 1929, and his parents were Simon M- Reeder and Catherine Reeder; 4. That Simon M. Reeder and Catherine R eder came to Oregon, arriving on Sauvies Island September 6, 1853, and at that time took up and occupied and received a patent from the United States Govern ment as a donation land claim, said patent bexng recorded in book 449 page 370, Multnomah County Deed Records; That Simon M. Reeder occupied and farmed the said property, consisting of 320 acres, from September 6, 1853, until the date of his death on June 18, 1902; That between the date of his death and the date of her death, which was November 22, 1905, Catherine Reeder occupied and farmed the said donation land claim; 5. That upon her death my father, J. L. Reeder, received a deed from Catherine Reeder for the north one-half of the said dona tion land claim, save and except a twenty acre tract located therein (see Oregon Reports 50 page 204). 6. That between 1905 and untilthe time of his death in August, 1929, J. L. Reeder occupied and farmed the property rece ved from Catherine Reeder; 7. That from the date of his death, I occupied and farmed until Page 1.

9 the present time, the land formerly owned by J. L. Reeder, and that I acquired the ownership thereof from my mother, Mary S. Reeder and my brothers and sisters, and am now the owner thereof, in possession of and farming the said land? That the property I now own and occupy consists of approximately 140 acres, has been owned and farmed continuously by Simon M Reeder or one of his descendants for more than the last 10 0 years, and has produced more than $ worth of produce therefrom in each of the said years; 8 That I make this affidavit in support of my claim for a Century Farm Program Certificate. B-4126 October 29, 1958 Mrs. Judith Scharf Public Service Representative Oregon Historical Society Market Street Portland 1, Oregon Dear Mrs. Scharf: I almost hate to write you this letter, but have finally mustered up courage enough to do so. You will probably re call the last minute commotion that I caused with regard to obtaining the Century Farm Certificates for myself and my cousin, Earl Reeder. After receiving our Certificates at the fairgrounds, we tromped around the grounds until about 5:30, placed the folders in the back of the car, and came home; upon our ar rival found that we had both of the folders but only one Certificate, apparently one of them having slipped from the folder at the fairgrounds. We contacted the fairgrounds the next day in the hopes that it might have been turned in, and we have written to many of the exhibitors in the cattle barn where we spent most of our time in the hopes that possibly someone had picked it up and preserved it. Since nearly two months has now gone by, it appears there is no hope of the same being returned to us, and I am therefore inquiring of the possibility of obtaining another one. I would not want to cast upon you the burden of obtaining the signatures necessary, but would be happy to do so myself. If this cannot be done, I guess that Earl and I will just have to flip a coin to determine who is to have permanent pos session of the one certificate we do have as we carried them jointly throughout the day.
