1 Ohio State University Extension Wayne County 428 W. Liberty St., Suite 12 Wooster, Ohio March 2018 Dear Junior Fair Livestock Exhibitors and Families, Phone Fax We are so excited that the H year is here! In the true 4-H spirit of making the best better, every year we thoroughly evaluate our program to see where we can make improvements to give our members the highest quality 4-H experience possible. Teaching our members to properly take care of their animals, produce a safe, high quality product for consumers, and convey a positive image of 4-H and agriculture is a top priority in our livestock program. Again this year, Quality Assurance will be taught earlier in the year, as we feel that providing members with information regarding proper animal care should be done at the beginning of their project experience, when they start caring for their animals. All livestock exhibitors (including any Beef, Dairy, Dog, Goat, Horse, Poultry, Rabbit, Sheep, and Swine projects) MUST complete Quality Assurance by July 19 th in order to meet the Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) livestock exhibition requirement for the Wayne County Fair. Per new guidelines from the ODA, Regardless of age, junior fair exhibitors shall successfully complete the educational program not less than 45 days prior to the opening date of the exhibition in which they will participate. This applies to the county fair and the Ohio State Fair, so if you are planning to show at OSF, you are responsible for making sure you do QA training at least 45 days in advance of the opening day of the fair. If you do not participate in Quality Assurance training AND Skillathon you will NOT be permitted to exhibit livestock at the Wayne County Fair! There will be several opportunities to complete your Quality Assurance training at the county level. We are offering two large spring trainings on April 24, and May 23 at Fisher Auditorium, OARDC Wooster. Registration will begin at 6:30 PM with training from 7:00 8:30 PM. NEW TEST-OUT OPTION: New this year, members ages and (as of January 1, 2018) have the option of taking a test to test out of QA. Youth can test out of the annual QA program for up to 3 years, while ages who pass the test can test out of the program permanently. The date to take this test is March 20 at 7:00 pm at Fisher Auditorium. There are different tests for year olds and year olds, as well as for small and large animal exhibitors. If a member shows both small and large, they may pick one they do not need to do both. You must sign up ahead of time for this option so that we know what tests we need to print. Sign up at go.osu.edu/qatestout. Please note that if you do not pass the test this year (with a 70%), you must take the in-person training to complete the requirement for You can try to pass the test again next year. You may also complete Quality Assurance training at other events throughout the state or through your FFA Advisor, if available. See the back of this letter for a list of Wayne County and State opportunities. If you participate outside of Wayne County, you must submit proof of completion (either by , faxing, mailing, or bringing in a copy) to the Extension Office by 4:30 pm on August 1 st, the date that your fair entry is due. If you have any questions about Quality Assurance, please do not hesitate to contact us at the Extension Office. We hope you re ready for an awesome 4-H year! Sincerely, The Wayne County 4-H Team The Ohio State University, The United States Department of Agriculture, and County Commissioners Cooperating

3 Ohio State University Extension Wayne County 428 W. Liberty St., Suite 12 Wooster, Ohio To: All Livestock Participants in the Wayne County Jr. Fair Re: New Rules/Requirements for Animal Identification for Fair Phone Fax Hello Wayne County Jr Fair Participants, As some may have heard from your 4-H club advisors, there is a new requirement to identify all animals that participate in the Wayne County Jr Fair. We have moved to a new software system that will utilize the 4HOnline login to make your fair entries online. There will be much more information about the new software available in June when Advisors pick up Jr Fair rule books and their packet. This new process will make entering your fair animals into the new online system a very quick and easy process. These forms will now be submitted online, and can easily be submitted on a phone, tablet or computer. The new system will help you make less trips into our office with paperwork. You will also have 24/7 access to the system and can easily see that everything is submitted and date stamped. All livestock species traditionally with June paperwork must submit animal ID by June 1 st. This includes all Beef, Dog, Horse, and Swine projects. All other species must submit animal ID by August 1 st (Before Making a Fair Entry). This includes all Dairy, Goat, Poultry, Rabbit, and Sheep projects. The enclosed instructions will help you input each Animal Identification into the system. There are a few key things to note: Once an animal is input into the system it cannot be edited! So, take the time and make sure you have all the necessary ID information before you submit your animal ID. Contact the Extension Office if you find a mistake before June 1 st. Each species will have different required information. Some information is required by the website and other items are required by Wayne County. Make sure to utilize the enclosed list of required fields. There is a lot of ID fields that are optional! Please fill these in if you can. But as noted, you MUST complete the required field for the Animal to be eligible at the fair. If you have a shared animal (i.e. a family spare), it is required that you make an animal ID for that specific animal for EACH member. If the required information is not present in the system the animal will not be submitted to make entry to the fair. The member would need to choose from an alternate animal with proper Animal ID in the system. Members in both 4-H and FFA must enter all animal IDs into 4HOnline This new process to make entries to the Junior Fair will include: 1. Make 4-H/FFA Enrollment by April 1 st 2. Input all possible animals in to the 4HOnline animal Tab via the 4hOnline portal by the required deadline i.e. June 1 or August 1 (This MUST be done before proceeding to step 3) 3. Make Jr Fair Entries through the FairEntry.com system. (Instructions to follow in June) *** FFA Only Members will have a similar process. That information will be sent to Ag Ed departments when complete! Sincerely, The Ohio State University, The United States Department of Agriculture, and County Commissioners Cooperating
4 NEW Animal ID Help Sheet Every animal that may be taken to the fair, now must be entered into This includes all Horses, Ponies, Steers, Cows, Heifers, Hogs, Sheep, Goats, Rabbits, Poultry, and Dogs. This process must be completed through the 4-HOnline system. *It is recommended that you use the specific Animal ID Help sheet for your species available at Step 1: Login to Oh.4honline.com (Make sure to click, I have a profile!) Step 2: Click Step 3: Click on the Edit button on the right hand side of your name Step 4: At the top of the click on the Animal / Livestock tab Step 5: Select the animal type you want to submit and then click the Add Animal button Step 6: Fill in the information You must at least fill out all bolded fields Step 7: Add documents and photos of your animal. Click the Select button and find the file or photo on your phone or computer.
5 Step 8: MAKE SURE ALL INFORMATION IS COMPLETE AND ACCURATE. Once you hit the save button you cannot edit the animal. Step 9: Click the save button Step 10: Adding animals Start at step 5 and repeat! If you find a mistake on an animal you have already submitted, it cannot be edited by members. You will either need to go into the system and create a new animal with the correct information or you may contact the Extension Office and they can make the change, but only if before the deadline. The only exemption of this is if an animal tag is lost and replaced.
