3 PERTH ROYAL SHEEP SHOW Adaptable to a range of climates there are approximately 900 different breeds and an estimated one billion sheep worldwide. WA s sheep population has regularly outstripped its human population. In 1835 there were 3,545 sheep. Twelve years later the population had exploded to more than 100,000 animals. At its peak in the 1980s the sheep flock in WA stood at 38 million. Today it is about 15 million. The Perth Royal Sheep Show is the most prestigious industry competition held in WA. With more than 1,000 sheep and prime lambs, the event attracts the State s top wool growers and meat producers with a wide variety of breeds represented. The all breeds stud ram and ewe sale is a highlight of the competition offering producers the opportunity of realising strong prices for their sheep. The competition also supports young people to gain experience in the industry through Young Judges competitions. MISSION STATEMENT To promote the excellence in sheep breeding in WA. 10 Royal Agricultural Society of WA would like to congratulate the winners on FCAS Championship State Final at the 2016 IGA Perth Royal Show KIRA BATTERBEE Meat Breeds Judging LAUREN RAYNER Merino Sheep Judging RACHAEL SPRATT Merino Fleece Judging My love of animals started at a very young age having grown up around them on the family farm. Wanting to learn more in the agricultural area I decided to attend the Western Australian College of Agriculture Narrogin and absolutely loved my time there. Whilst at the Ag College I became involved in the showing and breeding of the stud sheep which comprised of the preparation and showing of the stud sheep as well as judging of Sheep and Wool at multiple country shows as well as Perth Royal, Because of the enjoyment and experiences I received whilst showing for the school I decided to start my own stud upon graduating year 12. Since then I am determined to further my education in this particular industry and am in my last year at Murdoch University studying a double major of Animal Science and Crop and Pasture Science. I believe all these factors helped contribute to my judging and I sincerely thank the Royal Agricultural Society of WA for this opportunity. Growing up on the family farm and studying at the Western Australian College of Agriculture Narrogin has increased my passion for agriculture and sheep. At the College I was apart of the sheep team under the guidance of Colin Batt in which we attended many regional shows. I have learnt many judging skills in sheep and wool and can confidently prepare sheep for showing. Through my success in judging competitions, I have had the opportunity to meet some fantastic people who have significantly helped increase my skills in the judging ring. This support and encouraged has positively impacted my future career aspirations. Having judged merino sheep at small country shows I can now appreciate the ability to judge under pressure. I am looking forward to entering and judging competitions in the future. Thank you to the Royal Agricultural Society of Western Australia for making this possible. My passion for agriculture came at a young age when I would visit the family farm in Denmark, WA. I was always hands on with moving sheep and pressing wool at shearing time. But never took the time to learn about wool. However when I was old enough, I attended the Western Australia College of Agriculture Harvey, where my skills and knowledge for wool really developed. For the first year I was keen to learn everything I could about wool. But then the following two years I stepped back from wool until I was given another opportunity to compete in wool appraisal for the last time at Ag school, which I jumped at. I then went on to complete my certificate III in Advance wool handling. 8

11 SHEEP GENERAL SHOW REGULTIONS (Please read carefully) The Society s General Show Regulations regulate the conduct of the 2017 IGA Perth Royal Show. Upon acceptance of an entry, the Exhibitor is irrevocably contracted to be bound by those General Show Regulations. A copy of the Society s General Show Regulations may be obtained on application or from the website An Exhibitor who breaches any General Show Regulation may be disqualified, or suspended for any period, fined or otherwise penalised. The Society may publish to: a) all Royal Show Societies in Australia; b) the relevant Breed Society; and c) body with which the exhibit is registered, or is eligible for registration, result of any proceedings before the Disciplinary Committee in which a person has been found to have breached any General Regulation. The Society may recognise and act upon any Penalty imposed by any other similar society, organisation or body in Australia on any Person or exhibit. 1. COMPLETION OF ENTRIES: Exhibitors must ensure that all information requested is included on their entry form, otherwise their entries may be refused. 2. DANGEROUS, OBJECTIONABLE OR DISEASED EXHIBITS: The attention of Exhibitors is drawn to the Society s General Show Regulation 17.7 in reference to dangerous, objectionable or diseased exhibits. 3. SPONSORSHIP: 3.1 RASWA would like to thank all of the sponsors contributing to the Sheep Section for the 2017 IGA Perth Royal Show. 3.2 Any reference to the amount of money contributed by sponsors as stated in the schedule and catalogue is exclusive of GST. 4. PRIZE MONEY: 4.1 RASWA has a policy whereby all prize money is paid by EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer). Your banking details will be kept secure and can only be used by RASWA to credit your bank account. Please complete your account details on the entry form even if you have provided them previously. In accordance with the rules of the competition, failure to provide your bank details will mean that any prize money you earn will be forfeited and retained by RASWA. 4.2 Prize money as stated in the Schedule does not include GST. The prize money which the Society pays to successful Exhibitors ( you ) depends on the information that you provide to the Society. If you confirm that you are GST registered and provide your Australian Business Number (ABN) the Society will pay the appropriate prize money plus 10% GST. The Society will provide to you a Recipient Created Tax Invoice (RCTI) within 28 days of the day you were successful at your event, detailing the GST which you will need to submit to the Australian Tax Office (ATO). If any adjustments need to be made, the Society will issue an adjustment note to you within 28 days of the adjustment. Upon entry into the competition and completion and signing of the application form, this form will become a RCTI agreement as required under (Goods and Services Tax) Act Furthermore, you acknowledge your agreement to the following: The Society will issue you a tax invoice in respect of the successful exhibit; You are requested not to issue a tax invoice to the Society in respect to prize money received; It will be necessary for you to notify the Society if you cease to be registered for GST; and The Society will notify you if it ceases to satisfy any of the requirements of the determinations. If you provide your ABN but are not registered for GST, the Society will pay the prize money as detailed in the prize schedule. If you are a business Exhibitor and do not provide your ABN to the Society, 46.5% tax will be deducted from our prize money under the ATO PAYG provisions. If you confirm that you are entering as part of a private recreational pursuit or hobby, the Society will pay the prize money as detailed in the prize schedule. 5. COLLECTION OF AWARDS: The Society will not be responsible for Trophies etc. that have not been collected by 31 December SOCIETY S LIABILITY: The attention of Exhibitors is drawn to General Show Regulation 17, with reference to the Society s Liability and Indemnity. 7. PROMOTION: No advertising or promotion on behalf of commercial businesses is permitted without the prior written consent of the Royal Agricultural Society s Chief Executive Officer. 9

PRIVACY ACT STATEMENT: The information provided by the Exhibitor in the application for entry is collected and used by the Royal Agricultural Society of Western Australia (RASWA) to organise and conduct Competitions at the 2017 IGA Perth Royal Show. We may publish details such as your name, address and exhibit details in any RASWA publication or communication. Such information may also be made available to, and published by, the media. We will not disclose your information without your consent for any other purpose unless required or authorised by law. You may request access to your personal information and, if necessary, request that our records of that information be corrected by writing to the Chief Executive Officer at the Royal Agricultural Society of Western Australia, PO Box 135, Claremont WA SECTION CONDITIONS (Please read carefully) 1. CONDITIONS OF ENTRY: 1.1 All livestock exhibits must be: Bred by the Exhibitor, or owned, leased or syndicated by the Exhibitor for a minimum of six (6) months as at the date of judging and provide proof of the transaction by way of receipts or registration papers. 1.2 Please Note: When an Exhibitor is officiating as a Judge at the show and wishes to present animals for sale the Exhibitor is prohibited from exhibiting for judging purposes on that occasion. 1.3 All sheep must be shown in the wool unless otherwise specified. 1.4 No sheep, except those entered for sale or competition, will be allowed on the Showground without the permission of the Councillor in Charge. 1.5 Duty of Care to Animals: A person who has the care or charge of an animal has a duty to take all reasonable measures to ensure the welfare of that animal. 1.6 All Exhibitors (or their nominee) must be in attendance and responsible for presentation of sheep to Judges. 1.7 Exhibitors of British Breeds, Corriedale and other Breeds are requested to provide suitable leads for their sheep to facilitate the handling and judging of exhibits if they so wish. 2. COMPLETION OF ENTRIES: 2.1 Definition of a Novice: Restricted to breeders who have not won a first prize in Open Classes at any Royal Show in the Breed in which they are competing. Breeders competing in the Novice Class can compete in the Open Class. 2.2 Individual Breed requirements are listed in the Breed Descriptions of the Australian Flock Register. 2.3 Ewes exhibited in lambs at foot classes must have a lamb that is purebred or registered appendix flock lamb of her own breeding at foot. 3. AGES OF SHEEP: 3.1 As the industry recognises teeth as a readily available means of assessing the age of sheep, the following pictures are to be used in conjunction with the definitions printed to determine the correct age for various classes of competition for the purpose of the 2017 IGA Perth Royal Show across all breeds of sheep in the schedule. 3.2 Ages mentioned are a guide. Viewing teeth determines the ultimate classes in which sheep are to compete. 10

13 3.3 A tooth is considered to have erupted once it has broken the gum. This interpretation is subject to breed inspectors decisions. a) All lamb No evidence of eruption of permanent Lamb s teeth (8 milk teeth). (1 month to months). b) Under 1½ years not to show more than 2 permanent incisor Two-tooth (2 central incisors and six milk teeth). (12 to 18 months). c) Over 1½ years and under 2½ years not to show more than 4 permanent incisor Four-tooth (2 central 2 middle incisors and four milk teeth). (18 months to 2 years). d) Over 2½ years and under 3½ years not to show more than 6 permanent incisor Six-tooth (2 central, 2 middle and 2 lateral incisors and 2 milk teeth). (2½ to 3½ years). e) Over 3½ years to show 8 permanent incisor Eight-tooth (2 central, 2 middle, 2 lateral and 2 corner incisors). (3½ to 4 years and older). 4. NUMBER OF ENTRIES PER CLASS: Exhibitors are limited to three entries in any one class and the Society reserves the right to further restrict entries to two per class (after entries close) if found necessary because of lack of penning space. 5. TRANSFER OF ENTRIES: 5.1 In all sheep breeds, animals entered in their incorrect age class may be transferred to their correct class subject to application being made to the Councillor in Charge and approved at least one hour prior to the stipulated judging time, and subject to such transfer not exceeding the maximum number of entries allowed in any one class. The onus is on the Exhibitor to be aware of any Class transfers made by the inspection team. 5.2 Merino: Exhibits will be inspected with respect to wool type, e.g. super fine, fine, medium or strong wool, and age on Friday 22 September 2017 after the completion of penning. 6. REFUND OF ENTRY FEES: No refunds will be given for livestock exhibits except where the Society has excess entries in a section or class and is unable to accommodate them. 7. WITHDRAWAL OF EXHIBIT: A Veterinary certificate may be requested by the Society if an exhibit is withdrawn due to illness or injury. 8. REMOVAL OF EXHIBITS: The Society may, at its sole discretion, withdraw, reject or disqualify an exhibit. Refer to the Society s General Show Regulation IRREGULAR SHEEP ENTRIES: In the event of sheep being entered in the wrong wool type with exception of Merinos, the Judges have the right to request Stewards to place the exhibits in their correct class. 10. DAYS GROWTH OF WOOL: 10.1 Border Leicester: Except in the classes provided for shorn sheep, all exhibits in these classes must be carrying not less than 9 months or more than 13 months growth of wool at time of inspection prior to judging. Long wool sheep in the under 1½ years class (not to show more than two permanent teeth) need not be shorn, but must carry a minimum of 9 months wool Shropshire: Exhibits in this section must be closely and evenly shorn and carrying not more than 1.5cm of wool at time of inspection prior to judging Poll Dorset: Shearing date for exhibits in wool classes will be between 1 December and 31 January in the year of competition. Rams to be machine shorn and untrimmed for all shorn 10.4 Corriedale: In Corriedale sheep classes, limited restrictions are made on the number of days growth of wool to be carried by exhibits. Except for shorn classes, sheep may be exhibited either in full wool or half wool. For sheep in full wool, 10 to 13 months wool is acceptable. Sheep in half wool will be shorn after the Wagin Woolorama. The number of days wool must be stated on the entry form for each sheep and they will be judged making allowance for the different shearing dates Ile de France: All entries must be carrying no more than 1.5cm of wool at time of inspection prior to judging Prime SAMM: Shearing date for all classes except the wool class is 1 July in the year of competition, or 2 weeks either side of this date. The wool class date is 1 February in the year of competition, or 2 weeks either side of this date Lincoln: Exhibits in this breed must be shorn on or after 1 April in the year of competition Texel: All entries must be carrying no more than 1.5cm of wool at time of inspection prior to judging White Suffolk: All sheep to be shorn on or after the 15 August and untrimmed. 11. INSPECTIONS: 11.1 Breed Society Standard and Conformity to the schedule will be used for Inspection, and an appeal may be lodged to the Appeals Committee or to the Councillor in Charge. 11

14 11.2 ASSBA: The inspection committee shall have the power to recommend to the Chief Steward the withdrawal from competition of any sheep not complying with the shearing and lamb at foot conditions. In the event of the Chief Steward endorsing any such recommendations, the Exhibitor concerned shall have the right of appeal to the Councillor in Charge of the Sheep Committee provided such appeal is lodged in writing with the Chief Steward within one hour of being notified of the Chief Steward s decision. The decision of the Committee shall be final Poll Dorset: Poll Dorset sheep will be subject to an inspection by Breed Society Inspectors to maintain Breed and Show requirements. After animals have been inspected, Exhibitors will be notified of results. In the event of an animal being rejected from competition by the Breed Society appointed Inspectors, an appeal may be lodged to the Appeals Committee through the Councillor in Charge, in writing, within an hour of the Exhibitor being notified of such rejection. Appeals Panel will comprise four members nominated by the Australian Poll Dorset Association WA Regional Committee. 12. SCANNING: 12.1 Sheep in Scan Classes that have been penned should be ready for scanning from 4.00pm Tuesday 27 September. Please listen for shed announcements For breeders who nominate sheep in Scan Classes for the 2017 IGA Perth Royal Show, their animals will be scanned by Stocksmart at no charge 'Scanning is conducted under Stocksmart scanning' to avoid a potential conflict that scanners are working for their affiliated body whilst conducting scanning. If scanners are to show sheep, they are not to scan their own sheep. 13. FLOCK NUMBERS AND ELIGIBILITY: 13.1 Exhibitors must provide the registered Flock Number of the breeder of each entry. All sheep competing in this section must be bred in a flock registered in a recognised Flock Book unless otherwise specified, and all exhibits must be the bona fide property of the Exhibitor Merino: A Merino cannot be shown in a Poll Merino Class and a Poll Merino cannot be shown in a Merino Class. A sheep is only eligible to be shown in its class using the specific flock registration number. The flock registration numbers will be shown on the entry form in each class. 14. SHEEP FOR EXHIBITION: All sheep will be required to have NLIS tag before they leave the property. They must meet the requirements of the stock (Identification and Movement) Act, and could be shown and returned to their property. They must be accompanied by a NVD/Waybill and the Royal Agricultural Society of WA will keep a record of the animals that were at the Showground. Exhibitors should use the Showground PIC Number WCSG0001 as the identifier of the Showground on the NVD/Waybill and specify their return address. 15. SHEEP FOR SALE: They must meet NLIS requirements that is to be identified with an ear tag with the brand on it linked to the PIC Number of the property from where the animals came from to the Showground (Showground PIC No. WCSG0001). The Agents must receive from the buyer the Brand PIC of the destination property before completing sale. Records must be kept and available to Inspectors. Full information relating to Enzootic Disease Regulations 1970 or Stock (Identification and Movement) Act 1970 can be obtained from the Department of Agriculture and Food or VERIFICATION OF TYPE, DESCRIPTION AND ELIGIBILITY: 16.1 Each animal will be subject to inspection and/or examination by an inspector or inspectors APPOINTED BY THE SOCIETY Upon inspection, if an exhibit is disqualified from entering competition, it may remain in its pen until conclusion of the Show. 17. MEDICATION CONTROL: 17.1 The purpose of this condition is to ensure that the normal performance of an animal during competition is not affected, either deliberately or unintentionally, by the influence of drugs and medications, or by any form of veterinary treatment. No drugs shall be administered to any animal exhibited in this section, except under the direction of the Society s Veterinary Surgeon who shall advise the Councillor in Charge if in his/her opinion, such drug, medication or veterinary treatment is likely to have any effect upon the animal, which would be material to its chance of being awarded a prize, and in such case the Councillor in Charge may bar the animal from competing The Society may make, or cause to be made, such test or tests of an animal, as it shall deem necessary to determine whether such drug has been administered to any animal which has been entered for, or has been exhibited in, any class or competition. 12

15 18. MOVEMENT OF STOCK TO WA: 18.1 There are strict requirements for bringing livestock into WA. A completed Health Certificate for Movement of Stock to Western Australia (Form LB1), available from the Department of Agriculture and Food WA, must accompany each consignment of livestock en route into WA. It contains all entry requirements for livestock and is used to certify that livestock meet these requirements. For further information please contact the Department of Agriculture and Food WA Sheep purchased which are to remain in Western Australia will be subject to continuing quarantine surveillance as specified by Department of Agriculture and Food. 19. VETERINARY INSPECTIONS: Compulsory Veterinary inspections will be carried out on the day of competition. 20. VETERINARY SERVICES: 20.1 Veterinary Officer will be on call throughout the 2017 IGA Perth Royal Show to provide services to injured or sick livestock. Exhibitors requiring services will be responsible for payment for all services rendered The Veterinary Office and Medication Control Centre is located at the corner of Edgar Avenue and the Cattle Lanes The duty Veterinary Officer can be contacted 24 hours a day, through the Asset Service s Office Phone Extension Number: or Asset Service can also be contacted on after 9.00pm each night. 21. AUTOPSY: 21.1 If at any time an animal which has been shown or is to be shown at the 2017 IGA Perth Royal Show dies at the Showground, the Exhibitor/Owner shall not remove or permit the animal to be removed from the Showground without the prior written permission of the Society s Veterinary Officer The Veterinary Surgeon may, at the expense of the Owner/Exhibitor, where an animal has died at the Showground, carry out or cause to be carried out, at a place determined by the Veterinary Surgeon, an autopsy of such animal to ascertain the cause of death The Veterinary Surgeon may authorise the disposal of the remains of the animal after the autopsy at the expense of the Exhibitor/Owner Asset Services should be notified of death. They maybe able to assist with the disposal of the carcase. 22. OVINE BRUCELLOSIS: 22.1 The rams of all breeds of sheep (unless a Breed Society has a specific ruling) will be required to be tested and Ovine Brucellosis negative in the year of competition. This means an exhibit must have either full accreditation or a serological blood test by the Department of Agriculture and Food showing negative results All Rams exhibited must come from flocks registered with the Ovine Brucellosis (Ram Flock) accreditation scheme of the Department of Agriculture and Food; or all Exhibitors must provide a certificate from a Veterinary Surgeon certifying that their Rams have been: a) Serologically TESTED TWICE for Brucella ovis with negative results at an interval of 60 to 150 days; b) Clinically examined for epididymis with negative results; and c) Isolated from other sheep for a period of 21 days before the first serological test until exhibition at the 2017 IGA Perth Royal Show. A COPY OF THE CERTIFICATE MUST ACCOMPANY THE ENTRY FORM. 23. OVINE JOHNE S DISEASE (OJD): The National Sheep Health Statement (SHS) provides Exhibitors with the opportunity to declare their flock status. The form is included in the schedule and is voluntary. 24. DIPPING AND/OR PARASITIC CONTROL: All shorn sheep must comply with Government regulations and any necessary declarations lodged with Department of Agriculture and Food. This condition does not apply to sheep which are to be taken directly back to the Exhibitors property and are not for sale. 25. FODDER: Will be available for purchase by Exhibitors in the Sheep Section by ordering on the entry form. 26. LOCKERS: 26.1 Exhibitors may reserve lockers by completing and forwarding with entries. Lockers measure 180cm x 130cm x 130cm and are a fee of $2.50 per locker is payable with entries Exhibitors are required to supply their own locks if required for all feed lockers Only Exhibitors who have more than 10 sheep can be allocated more than one locker. 13

16 27. STOCK BEDDING: Bedding will be supplied by the Society. Exhibitors are requested to be as economical as possible in their use of bedding. 28. CLEANING OF PENS: 28.1 All straw from pens must be placed at the end of aisles by no later than 8.00am every day. Shed staff will be closing off access to the main alleyway at 8.00am to allow for the Dingo operator. Fresh straw will be made available from 6.30am each morning Height of straw must never be allowed to build up above 200mm from the base of the pen Exhibitors are not required to clean out pens on the last Saturday of the Show Exhibitors must endeavour not to waste bedding straw In the case of rams in pens that predominantly urinate in the centre of the pen, please remove all soiled bedding with fork and then pull remaining straw from edge of pen to cover up hole created, then add a limited quantity of fresh bedding to top up pen in accordance with In the case of ewes, the reverse should be practised as center is possibly unsoiled These requests are made in the interest of reducing the quantity of bedding used. The practise by some Exhibitors to keep adding fresh straw is not to continue as the smell builds up. If this rule is not adhered to it may become necessary to charge for straw. 29. ELECTRICAL DEVICES AND CORDS: 29.1 Any Exhibitor intending to bring electrical equipment to the Showground will be required to ensure that such equipment is fitted with residential current protection; and that all electrical leads, tools and appliances have been inspected by licensed electrical contractor and currently tagged Only those electrical appliances and electrical cords with the required tag can be used on the Showground The use of double adapters is prohibited. All power boards must be tested and tagged. 30. ARRIVALS: 30.1 Vehicles will NOT be able to enter at Gate 7 off Ashton Avenue after the Show commences on Saturday 23 September Vehicles delivering exhibits are to enter through Private Road Gate 6 off Graylands Road, open from 6.00am to 8.00pm Sheep Vehicles are to proceed east along Private Road to the Jim Horwood Pavilion Access to the pavilion is via the concrete ramp on the Western side of the pavilion and driving up the landing deck where mobile unloading ramps are available Exit is by continuing East down the exit ramp to Gate 7 where vehicles are requested to turn left (North) into Ashton Avenue. Recovery routes for pickup of animals are the same Duty of care: A person who has the care of charge of an animal has a duty to take all reasonable measures to ensure the welfare of that animal. 31. PENNING: 31.1 All Sheep must be penned by the times stated below for each breed. If unavoidably delayed in transit, special arrangements are to be made with the Councillor in Charge in the Jim Horwood Pavilion It will be the responsibility of the Exhibitor or their agent to place the sheep in pens allocated to them in whatever order they desire to best show off their exhibits. Pen numbers bear no relation to their catalogue number. Once penned, the pen number can then be written in on the catalogue tag for management purposes. Fines may be imposed for failure to comply with this regulation. Prior to the penning of exhibited sheep, no sheep except those entered for competition shall be allowed in the competition pens After being penned, only Breed Society Officials, Exhibitors or their representatives are allowed to handle sheep prior to being judged. Any person breaching this condition is liable to expulsion from the Showground. 32. OBJECTIVE MEASUREMENT: 32.1 Exhibitors will be notified of when they will be required to bring their animals forward The priority traits to be measured that affect meat yield are: Fat thickness (depth). Rib eye depth or rib eye area. The software program used calculates these measurements. The program uses a formula that ranks or promotes animals that have the current desirable measurements to increase meat yield, or have a good correlation of fat and meat in proportion to live weight. 14

17 Each animal is given objective measurement points to a maximum of 60 (calculated by the program) and the Judge adds his final structural and personal assessment points to a maximum of 40. The points are then totaled by the steward and the highest point scoring animals are then awarded by the Judge. a) Each breed to be scanned on a breed basis to make a valid comparison of entries in that breed. b) Only entries nominated on the entry form in a scan class will be eligible to compete in a scan class across all breeds. c) A program of scanning relative to judging times will be drawn up and Exhibitors will be called up in order of breeds. 33. DRESS CODE FOR JUDGING RING: 33.1 The minimum dress code required before entering the judging ring has been determined by the RASWA Sheep Committee as: a) Closed in footwear b) Long trousers c) Collared shirt 33.2 If breeds prefer their handlers to enter the judging ring to wear white coats, these will be available in the sheep office. 34. FAILURE TO COMPETE: An Owner not bringing forward his exhibits to compete forfeits his right to stalls or pens allotted to such animal. 35. REMOVAL TIMES: 35.1 Merino, Poll Merino and Corriedale: All exhibits may depart after 5.00pm Monday 25 September 2017 and must be totally cleared by 12.00pm on Tuesday 26 September Shropshire, South Suffolk, Wilshire Horn, Texel, Suffolk, Prime SAMM, Wiltipoll, Poll Dorset, White Suffolk, Border Leicester, Dorper, White Dorper, Linclon and Ile De France: All exhibits may depart after 3.30pm Saturday 30 September All Breeds Ram and Ewe Sale: At the conclusion of the All Breeds Stud Ram and Ewe Sale on Friday 29 September In extreme circumstances, arrangements for early departure can be made with the Councillor in Charge Livestock Release Authority forms must be obtained for all sheep. 36. SPONSORSHIP: Only registered members of the Australia Society of Breeders of British Sheep (ASBBS) be eligible for ASBBS sponsorship in the British Breed Stud Section of the 2017 IGA Perth Royal Show. LIVESTOCK SALES REGULATIONS These Regulations are subject to such amendments or additions as the Society may from time to time determine. 1. The sales will be conducted on behalf of Owners by the Auctioneers nominated by the Society, namely Elders Limited, Landmark and Primaries. 2. Owners must enter stock for sale and make all necessary arrangements direct with the Auctioneers. Except for Clause 2 in the Section Conditions. 3. All shorn sheep must comply with Government regulations and any necessary declarations must be lodged with Department of Agriculture. This condition does not apply to sheep which are to be taken directly back to the Exhibitors property and are not for sale. 4. The order of sales shall be as determined by the Auctioneers and the Society. 5. The Society understands that the Auctioneer s will conduct the sales in accordance with their standard Conditions of Sale forms. However, in respect of stock sold at the sale on Friday, the Conditions of Sale forms must include provisions to the following effect: a) Sheep sold at the sale on Friday 29 September 2017 will not be delivered to new Owners or able to be collected until completion of the All Breeds Stud Rams and Ewe sale, (not before 3.30pm) except in extreme circumstances where arrangements are to be made with the Councillor in Charge. Exit permits must be obtained from the Councillor in Charge prior to all sheep leaving the Showground. b) The Vendor shall in the meantime comply with all Section Conditions in respect of the stock including the parading of the stock. 6. With regard to sheep the following special conditions shall apply: a) All sheep submitted for sale must have been bred in a registered flock. b) Only sheep that have been exhibited in a class at the 2017 IGA Perth Royal Show can be nominated in the sale. c) Only members of the Breed Societies shall be eligible to submit sheep for sale at the 2017 IGA Perth Royal Show Sales. d) No person shall be allowed to submit any breed of sheep for sale which he/she is not a registered breeder. e) The Australian Stud Sheep Breeders Association will only grant registration of rams in cases where the vendor indicates at the time of sale that a transfer certificate will be issued. 15

18 f) All Breeders must have presented their sheep for judging. See special arrangements for Poll Dorset s. g) All sheep submitted for sale shall be subject to examination by Inspectors appointed by the Society and they shall order the withdrawal from the sale of any sheep not approved by them. h) No animal shall be offered for sale which has been declared by the Society s Veterinary Inspector or Inspectors prior to sale, to be suffering from any kind of parasite infestation, contagious or infectious disease or which in the opinion of the Society s Veterinary Inspector or Inspectors is affected by any defect or disease (not being an infectious disease) which would render it undesirable or objectionable for sale. The Veterinary Inspector shall provide his/her decision in writing, duly signed, to the Chief Executive Officer before the commencement of sale and such decision shall be final with regard to the condition of such animal. i) In all cases where transfers are required under the regulations of any Breed Society or Association, the Vendors must comply with the Society s Regulations and at their own expense, lodge with the Breed Society or Association concerned, completed transfer forms. j) Vehicle parking and entry passes are available for buyers from Stock Agents if the buyer registers by Friday 15 September 2017 with their nominated agent. It is the responsibility of stock agents to apply to the Councillor in Charge for the allocation of these passes by Monday 18 September No vehicle will be allowed on the Showground without such authority. k) Entry fees for the livestock sale are additional to fees payable for the sheep exhibition. ALL BREEDS RAM AND EWE SALE Sale exhibits must meet NLIS requirements; identified with a brand ear tag linked to the PIC number of the property from where the exhibit came from to the showground. From the buyer, the agent must receive the brand PIC of the destination property before completing sale. Records must be kept and available to inspectors. All sheep in transit in Western Australia must be accompanied by a NVD as required by the Stock (Identification & Movement) Act All Breeds Ram and Ewe Sale - Friday 29 September 2017 at 1.00pm. AWI FUTURE SHEEP BREEDERS CHALLENGE A competition to educate students in feeding and preparing merino sheep for competition. The competition is in two sections using merino wethers; 1. Exhibit presentation and handling. 2. Wool and meat yield commercial value. Points for each section are added together to arrive at a winner of the challenge. Program: Thursday 16 March 2017 Six wethers are to be picked up by each competing College at Richard House s Barloo property, Gnowangerup. Teams of four sheep to be presented by students for judging in the wool. The wethers will then be shorn, fleeces weighed and commercial value of each fleece calculated. 44 PRIME LAMB SECTION CONDITIONS 1. CONDITIONS OF ENTRY: 1.1 The competition is open to any sheep breeder. 1.2 In all open classes the lambs must be F The competition consists of 3 lambs, and judging will be based on average results obtained from all 3 lambs in each separate entry. 1.4 The competition will be conducted with awards and prizes based on the highest points from the hook assessments for each section and class. 1.5 All animals entered must be identified tagged according to the entry schedule sent with the competition tags prior to delivery. 1.6 Arrangements for the sale of carcasses to Wellard s Group. It shall be in the Society s absolute discretion as to whether it replaces, repairs or pays for replacement or repair of goods. It shall be further in the Society s discretion as to whether it re-supplies or pays the cost of re-supply or services Indemnity To the maximum extent permitted by law, each Competitor and Exhibitor must indemnify and keep indemni ed the Society and its of cers, employees, members and Agents from and, against all actions, claims, demands, losses, damages, costs, expenses and liabilities including without limitation, consequential loss and loss of pro ts for which the Society is or may be become liable in respect of or arising from: (a) (b) (c) loss, damage or injury to any person in connection with the Exhibit or the relevant Event; without limiting sub-regulation (a) loss, damage or injury to any other Exhibit or Exhibitor, his or her family, invitees, Agents, or to the property of the Society, or its members, or to the general public, caused or contributed to or by any act or omission of an Exhibit of the Exhibitor or by the Exhibitor, his or her family, invitees or Agents; and without limiting sub-regulation (a) loss, damage or injury to the Exhibit, or the Exhibitor, his or her family, invitees, or Agents caused or contributed by an act or omission of an Exhibit of the Exhibitor or by the transportation, feeding or housing of an Exhibit of the Exhibitor Remo al of E ibit Without prejudice to any other provision of these Regulations, where the Society, its of cers, employees, members or Agents remove an Exhibit, or causes an Exhibit to be removed from the Showground, the Exhibit is removed or caused to be removed entirely at the risk of the Exhibitor. The person or persons removing the Exhibit will be deemed to be the Agent of the Exhibitor, 44 and his or her acts and omissions will be deemed to be the acts and omissions of the Exhibitor.

47 ANIMAL / LIVESTOCK OWNERS / EXHIBITORS PUBLIC LIABILITY INSURANCE The Royal Agricultural Society of Western Australia ( Society ) has a Public Liability insurance policy in the interests of Owners / Exhibitors of Animals / Livestock entering competitions in accordance with the Society s General Show Regulations and Section Conditions. INSURED PARTIES: Owner(s) / Exhibitor(s) of Animal / Livestock Exhibits upon payment of Entry fees and provided such Owner(s) / Exhibitor(s) comply with all requirements herein together with the Society s General Show Regulations and Section Conditions and any other terms and conditions the Royal Agricultural Society of WA may, at its sole discretion, require an Owner(s) / Exhibitor(s) to comply with. Failure to comply may render the Owner(s) / Exhibitor(s) personally liable for any claims that may arise as a result of any incident to which they may have, by omission or commission, contributed. PERIOD OF INSURANCE: For the period the Animals / Livestock are on the Society s Showground, Claremont, Western Australia for the purposes of the 2017 IGA Perth Royal Show. INSURED ACTIVITIES: All activities undertaken whilst within the con nes of the Society s Showground, Claremont, Western Australia consistent with the (Business) Insured Parties Animal / Livestock Exhibit activity. DESCRIPTION OF COVER: Insurance in respect of the Insured Parties liability to pay costs and compensation in respect of loss of, or damage to, third party property and death of, or injury to, third party persons caused by, and arising out of, the Insured Parties activities, all subject to the Society s policy terms, conditions, exclusions and warranties etc. AMOUNT OF COVER: $150,000,000 any one occurrence. Excess: $10,000 each and every claim. It should be noted that the payment of the excess in the event of a claim is the responsibility of the Owner/s / Exhibitor/s. JURISDICTION: Australia. TERRITORY: The Royal Agricultural Society s Showground, Claremont, Western Australia. INSURER: Lloyds of London Syndicate 1218 and others as listed on policies held by the Society. IMPORTANT CONDITIONS: The Owner(s) / Exhibitor(s) must: 1. exercise reasonable care to maintain all premises, ttings and plant in sound condition; 2. take all reasonable precautions to prevent injury and damage to persons and property; 3. promptly comply with any request made by the Royal Agricultural Society of WA which it may, at its sole discretion, require of an Owner(s) / Exhibitor(s); 4. give immediate notice: a) of an incident that may give rise to a claim; or b) if in receipt of advice of a claim; 5. not make any admission, offer or promise in connection with any claim and must not at any time admit liability; 6. make themselves aware of, and comply with, the policy conditions including duty of disclosure. All livestock Exhibits must be either: (a) (b) Bred by the Exhibitor, or owned, leased or syndicated by the Exhibitor for a minimum of 6 months as at the date of judging and provide proof of the transaction by way of receipts or registration papers. Exhibited by the original owner under arrangement with the purchaser. 6. (a) The Exhibitor can enter all Classes in their breed section, but the maximum number of Classes for which an Exhibitor will gain Governor s Cup points are from the highest scoring 10 Single Pen Classes. (b) In the event of a tie for rst place, the Governor s Cup will be jointly awarded. 7. An EXHIBIT is DEFINED, for the purposes of this award, as follows: (a) As per Single Pen Classes. AN EXHIBIT MAY ONLY RECEIVE POINTS ONCE. 8. Points will be allotted as follows: First 4 points Second 2 points Third 1 point If an Exhibitor has multiple placing s within a Class then all placing points will be included in the total for that Class. Championships will NOT be included unless the circumstances below apply:- 9. Points will not be allocated unless at least TWO EXHIBITORS participate in each Class except in the event of the animal going on to win a Championship or Reserve Championship with competition, in which case points scored on the Governor s Cup Scale will be awarded for the original Class in which the animal competed. If an animal has not been awarded any Governor s Cup points because it faced no competition in its breed or section, but that animal goes on to win an award with competition, points scored on the Governor s Cup Scale will be awarded for the original Class in which the animal competed. 10. Livestock Sections should address a means of promoting excellence within their respective areas. It will lead to competition across the sections. 11. Declaration on Entry form: To be eligible for participation in the Governor s Cup Competition you must have signed the Declaration on the Entry form to acknowledge that you have read all the Rules and Regulations governing the Governor s Cup Competition and you agree to abide by them. 46

49 SHEEP DOG CHAMPIONSHIPS Conducted under the Rules of the W.A. Working Sheep Dog Association. Dogs to be eligible to compete in this competition must have quali ed at the Annual Sheep Dog Field Trials conducted by the WA Working Sheep Dog Association during the 12 months immediately preceding the 2017 IGA Perth Royal Show. The competition will be conducted throughout the period of the 2017 IGA Perth Royal Show and competitors will be noti ed of the days and times upon which they are to compete.
