2 Mariellen Dentino, M.D. GLIWA Education Seminars and Heart Testing The activities do not end on Saturday, please join GLIWA on Sunday morning for education seminars and heart testing. I have loved and lived with Irish Wolfhounds for over 30 years and my house is still full of them! Padraic Brie Strawberry Girl- my Sara- gave me my most memorable conformation win when she was BOB at the Canadian National Specialty. Padraic Brie Eleanor LCM3 has been inducted into the ASFA Hall of Fame and Nelligan Fitzarran Trevor CD earned an LCM- rare for a male IW. There have been so many wonderful hounds- each teaching me something special. I was fortunate to find wonderful people to help and teach me. The most influential people for me personally were Phillipa Crowe and Bill and Betty Deemer- and then so many other smart and wise people I was able to learn from. The 9 hounds in my home today are all descendent of Padraic Brie Liadin co-owned with Debbie and Beth Chastainwith Debbie doing most of the work!! For generations I have had hounds that make my heart happy. I have judged sweeps for RMIWA and the National Specialty and found what hard work it actually is. I am a sucker for a beautiful head with the soft IW expression and an easy active ground covering side gait. I am a nephrologist for humans and so take care of many patients with heart disease. One night my first IW Patrick was lying on my lap and I thought-gee it feels like he is in afib. I had no idea dogs got afib or what kind of heart disease IWs had. After Patrick died of heart failure I was able to help start health studies for the Irish Wolfhound-again so lucky to meet and work with dedicated and hardworking people. It has been most rewarding to help many hounds. I have so many good memories of GLIWA. I am honored and appreciative to be asked to judge the "renewal" match. Best Puppy, Reserve Best Puppy, Best Adult, Reserve Best Adult, Best Veteran, and Best in Match will receive rosettes. Memento trophies (ceramic cups) will be awarded to all 1 st placements. Memento trophies (ceramic bowls) will be awarded to Reserve Best Puppy, Reserve Best Adult, Best Type, Best Gait, and Best Veteran. Memento trophies (ceramic crocks) will be awarded to Best Puppy and Best Adult. Perpetual trophies will be awarded to Best in Match, Best Adult, Reserve Best Adult, Best Puppy, Reserve Best Puppy, Best Type and Best Veteran. Perpetual trophies will be used for match photos and will remain in the possession of GLIWA. 4 Judge s Dinner Our Judge s Dinner will be held Saturday, October 20 at 7:00 p.m. The Packing House 900 E Layton Ave Milwaukee, Wisconsin The Packing House is located 4.6 miles from the host hotel. Filet Mignon: $44/person Aged to peak tenderness and charbroiled. Served with onion shreds and baked potato Atlantic Salmon: $44/person Lightly seasoned hand-cut Salmon Filet with a Cucumber-Dill Sauce. Served with fresh vegetables and Rice Pilaf Chicken Parmesan: $36/person Hand-breaded in Italian seasoned bread crumbs and sautéed. Then draped with Marinara and melted Mozzarella. Served with a bed of Linguine and Garlic Butter Portabella alla Carciofi (vegetarian) : $32/person Two mushroom caps filled with a cheesy Artichoke & Spinach stuffing. Served over a bed of Pesto Linguine All of the above will be served with a relish tray, house salad, warm bread & butter, and use of the coffee, tea, and soda station. Cash bar available. 5 The following regular classes will be offered: 3-6 month puppy 6-9 month puppy 9-12 month puppy month yearling month yearling Novice Bred By Exhibitor American Bred Open The regular classes will be divided by sex. Neutered dogs and spayed females MAY be entered in all classes. Champions of record cannot enter the regular classes. Best Puppy and Reserve Best Puppy will be chosen from the first place winners of the 3-6, 6-9 and 9-12 month classes. Best Adult and Reserve Best Adult will be chosen from the first place winners of the 12-15, 15-18, Novice, BBE, Am Bred and Open classes. Best in Match will be chosen between the Best Puppy and Best Adult. Non-Regular Classes: The winners of the non-regular classes may not compete for Best in Match. Parade of Champions-hounds which are conformation champions of record. Entries will not be judged. There is no entry fee for this class. Veteran-hounds who are 6 years of age or older. Placements will be awarded for 1st through 4th place for each sex. Best Veteran will be determined between the 1 st place winners. Altered-for hounds which are spayed or neutered and not a champion of record. Placements will be awarded for 1st through 4th place for each sex. Best Type-hounds which most exemplify the ideal Irish wolfhound. Dogs and bitches will be judged together. The judge may also request hounds to return for the Type class. Only one hound will be chosen for Best Type. Champions may be shown in this class. Best Gait-hounds with the best gait. Dogs and bitches will be judged together. The judge may also request hounds to return for the Gait class. Only one hound will be chosen for Best Gait. Champions may be exhibited in this class. Brace-two IWs with one or more common owner and both dogs must be entered in another class. Directions to Cudahy Kennel Club (site of the match) from I-94: Cudahy Kennel Club is located in St. Francis, Wisconsin about 5 miles south of downtown Milwaukee. Take I-94 to Exit 314B (Howard Ave.). Exit east onto W. Howard Ave. and proceed 1.8 miles. Turn left on S. Pennsylvania Ave. CKC is 0.1 miles down on the right and is the large white building. Parking is available in the lot behind the building off of E. Crawford Ave. or along the residential streets. Entries may be made via mail or online. Sunday, October 21 (10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.) Testing consists of an electrocardiogram (EKG). This screening is for the cardiac health of your hound; it does not qualify for OFA. An EKG strip will be provided for your vet if requested. EKGs are free but a $20 donation to the Irish Wolfhound Foundation is appreciated. Pre-Registration is required.
