5 NATIONAL OWNER HANDLED SERIES The AKC National Owner-Handled Series will be conducted following Best of Breed judging. All dogs in the BOB competition (including WD & WB) will stay in the ring after the judge makes their placements in BOB competition. The ring steward will ask all professional handlers, household members and current assistants to professional handler to leave the ring and then the judge will then select the Best Owner -Handled (BOH). The dog and its owner will continue to accrue points for any group placements or Bests in Show. The top-ranked dogs from the AKC National Owner -Handled Series are posted on the AKC National Owner-Handled Series Points Ranking page. Rankings of the dogs competing in the Series are compiled based on the Best of Breed, Group, and Best in Show placements in this specific Series competition (See Point Schedule). The end of year competition for the AKC National Owner-Handled Series will be held in conjunction with the AKC/Eukanuba show in December. Dogs that finished ranked in the top ten (plus ties) for their breed during the qualifying period will be invited to compete in the competition. Dogs exhibited by professional handlers on the day of the event are not eligible for this competition. Dogs exhibited by current assistants and household members of a professional handler on the day of the event are not eligible to enter this competition. Professional handlers are defined as any person who belongs or has belonged to a professional handlers' organization, distributed rate cards, or otherwise advertised or represented themselves as handling dogs for pay within the last five years. 7 BEST OF BREED COMPETITION The following categories of dogs may be entered and shown in Best of Breed competition: Dogs that are Champions of Record. Do gs which according to their owners records have completed the requirements for a championship but whose championships are unconfirmed. The entry and showing of dogs whose championships are unconfirmed is limited to a period of 90 days from the date of the show whe re a dog completed the requirements for a championship according to the owner s records. If, at the end of the 90 day period, the cha mpionship of a dog has not been confirmed by AKC, no further entries of the dog for Best of Breed competition are to be made until its champ ionship has been confirmed by AKC. GRAND CHAMPION SELECT When quality warrants, after Best of Breed and Best of Opposite Sex are awarded, a Select Dog (SD) and Select Bitch (SB) may be chosen from the remaining Champions (Non Regular Class winners that are Champions and Qualify for BOB are eligible) - (WD or WB are not eligible) (AKC Dog Show Rules, Chapter 3, Section 14, Effective ) AWARDS OF MERIT (AM-Regional & PM-Specialty) The Western Regional Specialty often has a number of quality Pharaohs in competition exceeding the number of top awards available. After Best of Breed, Best of Opposite Sex, and Best of Winners have been awarded, the judge at his/her discretion may award all or none of the Awards of Merit offered. (The number of Awards of Merit offered is determined by the total number of Pharaoh Hounds entered in the Best of Breed class, with one Award of Merit available for each seven Pharaohs entered in Best of Breed.) An Award of Merit acknowledges those Pharaohs who were considered, indicating the judge s recognition of an exceptional specimen of the breed. BRED BY EXHIBITOR CLASS ELIGIBILITY All dogs entered in the Bred-By Exhibitor Class must be individually registered with the AKC. The person handling the dog must be a breeder of record of the dog and an owner of record of the dog. Family members must be both a breeder and owner of record to exhibit in the class. NON-REGULAR CLASSES INVOLVING SINGLE DOG ENTRIES NOTE: Winners from these classes are eligible, if undefeated in another class for Best of Breed Competition. VETERAN CLASS *Veteran Dog Class *Veteran Bitch Class A class for dogs and a class for bitches that are 7 years of age or older. Out of respect for those veterans who honor us with their presence, only first place will be awarded in each class. All others will be considered runners up and will receive a second place designation. *Chapter 11, Section 8: of the Rules Applying to Dog Shows provides that a neutered male may be entered as a Veteran Dog in the Veteran Dog Class and a spayed bitch may be entered as a Veteran Bitch in the Veteran Bitch Class. COURSING CLASS Coursing Dog Class Coursing Bitch Class Classes are for Pharaohs who are AKC registered and are confirmed Field Champions or Coursers of Merit. NOTE: Exhibitors must supply proof of eligibility for this class with the entry. (A copy of the certificate awarding the title or a copy of the ENTIRE PAGE from either the AKC Gazette or FAN Magazine publishing the title will be accepted as proof.) Dogs/Bitches will not be entered in this class without proof of title accompanying the entry form. First Place in the Dog & Bitch Class may compete in Best of Breed Competition NON-REGULAR CLASSES INVOLVING MULTIPLE DOG ENTRIES NOTE: As the judges' decision in the Stud Dog/Brood Bitch Classes will be based on the merits of more than one dog or bitch, no one of the dogs or bitches making up the entry judged first in the class will be eligible to compete for Best of Breed by virtue of having won this class. *Stud Dog Class - For Stud Dogs with two or more of their get. Stud Dogs must be entered in the Stud Class and must be shown in the ring with their Get. The owner of the Stud Dog need not necessarily be owner of the Get. While the merits of the Stud Dog are not to be considered in the placement of the entry, the Stud Dog must be examined to determine if it has a condition that would require its d isqualification or excusal under the Dog Show Rules, AKC Policy, or the standard for its breed. Get must be entered in a regular class, Best of Breed competition, or some other Non-Regular class. *Brood Bitch Class - Same as Stud Dog Class, except replace Stud Dog with Brood Bitch and Get with Produce. *Chapter 11, Section 8: of the Rules Applying to Dog Shows provides that a castrated male may be entered as a Stud Dog in the Stud Dog Class and a spayed bitch may be entered as a Brood Bitch in the Brood Bitch Class. JUNIOR SHOWMANSHIP COMPETITION Novice Junior Class: For Boys and Girls who are at least 9 years old and under 12 years old on the day of the show and who, at the time entries close, have not won three First Place awards with competition present in a Novice Class at a licensed or member show. Novice Intermediate Class: For Boys and Girls who are at least 12 years old and under 15 years old on the day of the show and who, at the time entries close, have not won three First Place awards with competition present in a Novice Class at a licensed or member show. Novice Senior Class: For Boys and Girls who are at least 15 years old and under 18 years old on the day of the show and who, at the time entries close, have not won three First Place awards with competition present in a Novice Class at a licensed or member show. Open Junior Class: For Boys and Girls who are at least 9 years old and under 12 years old on the day of the show and who, at the time entries close, have won three First Place awards with competition present in a Novice Class at a licensed or member show. Open Intermediate Class: For Boys and Girls who are at least 12 years old and under 15 years old on the day of the show and who, at the time entries close, have won three First Place awards with competition present in a Novice Class at a licensed or member show. Open Senior Class: For Boys and Girls who are at least 15 years old and under 18 years old on the day of the show and who, at the time entries close, have won three First Place awards with competition present in a Novice Class at a licensed or member show. Master Class: This class will be for boys and girls who are at least 9 years old and under 18 years on the day of the show, and who have won 10 Best Junior wins with competition. The calendar for this class will be consistent with the eligibility dates for the AKC National Championship. All Juniors Meeting the criteria for this class are required to enter the Master Class and may change their entry the day of the show if entries have already closed. Once the eligibility time frame for that year has passed all participants return to the Open Class to compete for the following year. Each dog handled in a Junior Showmanship Class must be entered in one of the Breed or Obedience Classes at the show, or must be entered for Junior Showmanship only. However, a dog may be substituted. Such substitution must be accompanied by an official AKC entry form. All such substitutions must be made one half-hour prior to the judging of any Junior Showmanship Classes at the show. Each dog must be owned or coowned by the Junior Handler or by the Junior Handler's father, mother, brother, sister, uncle, aunt, grandfather or grandmother, including step and half relations or by a member of the Junior Handler's household. Every dog entered for Junior Showmanship must be eligible to compete in Dog Shows or in Obedience Trials. BITCHES IN SEASON ARE NOT ELIGIBLE. A dog that has been excused or disqualified by a Breed Judge or by a Bench Show Committee may still be handled in Junior Showmanship if eligible to compete in Obedience Trials. A dog that has been rejected, dismissed, or excused by the Veterinarian for the protection of the other dogs at the show or for the protection of the dog excused may not be handled in Junior Showmanship. Junior Handlers who win a third Novice Class with competition present after the closing of entries for a show may transfer their entry from the Novice Class to the Open Class provided that this transfer is made by the Superintendent at least one half-hour prior to the scheduled start of any regular conformation judging or one half-hour prior to the scheduled start of Junior Showmanship judging at the show, whichever is earlier. Winning of first place in an Open Class at this show may qualify or count toward qualification for entry in certain future limited Junior Showmanship Classes. For information on eligibility requirements for limited Junior Showmanship Classes which have been approved to date by AKC, go online at Junior Handler's must include their AKC Junior Handler identification number on the entry blank. Sweepstakes is open to all Pharaoh Hounds at least six (6) months of age and under 18 months of age on the day of the show. All entries must be made at the same time as the regular class entries and on the same form with specific age division written in the Additional Class place on the entry form. Each Pharaoh in Puppy Sweepstakes must be entered in a regular class. Each Pharaoh in Veteran Sweepstakes need not be entered in another class. Champions of Record are eligible in Puppy Sweepstakes. Champions of Record are eligible in Veteran Sweepstakes. Spayed and Neutered Pharaohs are eligible in Veteran Sweepstakes. 9 CHALLENGE TROPHIES - AM Western Regional Specialty ONLY BEST OF BREED The Hallam Western Specialty Challenge Trophy featuring a bronze head study of a Pharaoh Hound was brought out of retirement in 2016 and is offered by Dominic Palleschi Carota and Stephen F. Sipperly of Hallam Hounds. Originally offered by Joyce Martin & Pam Haig in 1990, the base of this trophy depicts Western Specialty winners from the last 25 years. The name of the winner and the owner will be engraved on the trophy. The trophy is offered in honor of all of the owned and sponsored Hallam Pharaoh Hounds who have won previous Pharaoh Hound Club of America Western Specialties. For permanent possession, it must be won 5 times by the same owner, but not necessarily by the same dog or in consecutive years and shall remain in the custody of the donors or their designated representatives until retired. A Pharaoh Hound Neck Medallion will be awarded to the winner. This trophy is offered at the Pharaoh Hound Club of America's Western Specialty Only. The following trophies are offered for competition at the Pharaoh Hound Club of America's Western Specialty and will remain in the custody of the donor or a PHCA representative until retired. For permanent possession, the specified trophy must be won three times by the same owner, (or in the case of the Bred-by trophy, by the same breeder) not necessarily with the same dog. The names of the winner and the owner will be engraved on the trophy or accompanying plaque. BEST OF OPPOSITE SEX A black basalt bust of Nefertari on a wooden base is offered by the Pharaoh Hound Fanciers of Northern California. An Egyptian-themed item will be awarded to the winner. There will be designated areas for setup. Mats will be allowed on the grass at this park. No alcohol permitted on the show grounds. Alcoholic Beverages Show Grounds Policy: Persons attending the Event shall not bring any alcoholic beverages to the Event. Specialties shall not serve or permit any alcoholic to be consumed at their event. Specialties shall ensure that during the Event no minors or any people are intoxicated or in a condition in which they should not be consuming alcohol and shall cooperate and ensuring that such people do not consume any alcohol on the premises where this event is held. 13 NOTICE TO EXHIBITORS 1. Entries must reach the Show Secretary, Doris Bandoian, 1220 N. Richfield Rd., Anaheim, CA , by 12:00 PM, NOON, Wednesday, March 29, Fees should accompany entries. The Club and the Show Secretary assume no responsibility for wrong or incomplete information given on the entry blank by the owner or agent of the owner. The Club and the Show Secretary assume no responsibility for the owner or owner s agent entering a dog in a class in which the dog is not eligible to compete, or for entering the same dog twice. 2. Returned checks do not constitute a valid entry fee. The CLUB will add a collection fee to the amount of each returned check. Subsequent returned checks for the same exhibitors may result in their being put on a CASH ONLY basis. The returned check MUST BE MADE GOOD by cash or money order BEFORE the dog will be allowed in the ring. 3. Exhibitors confirmations and judging programs will be mailed to the address given on the entry blank. If not received within a reasonable time prior to the show, notify the Show Secretary. Confirmations returned by the Post Office marked Undeliverable will be held at the Show Secretary s office. PLEASE BRING YOUR CONFIRMATIONS TO THE SHOW. 4. During the hours of judging owners are to be on call, and have their dogs ready to bring into the judging ring promptly in order that judging will not be delayed. Dogs need only be present for their judging. Dogs not needed for further judging may be excused. It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to have his dog ready to be shown and at the entrance of the judging ring when the steward calls for the class. Owner of dogs or the handlers of the dogs alone are responsible for the presence of their dogs in the judging rings. This means it is not the responsibility of the ring steward, nor of any agent of the show-giving club to locate any dog, it s owner or handler, when the dog s presence is needed in a judging ring. It should be understood by every exhibitor and handler that waiting for dogs to be brought into the ring is a courtesy extended to the owner or handler of the dog. There is no rule of these clubs nor the American Kennel Club that requires a judge to wait for an owner or handler t o bring his dog into the ring. Show hours 6 AM to 8 PM. 5. Trophies and prizes will be awarded in the judging ring by completion of the breed and the show secretaries office advised at once, in the event of any discrepancy. All trophies must be claimed the day of the show. None will be mailed. 6. Exhibitors are admonished to make themselves familiar with the agreement of the American Kennel Club, referred to on the reverse side of the entry blanks that accompany the premium list. Rule books may be obtained from the A.K.C., 5580 Centerview Dr., Suite 200, Raleigh, N.C or online at 7. The Club, the Show Secretary or the members or employees will not be responsible for the loss of or damage to any dog exhibited, whether the result of accident or other causes and in addition assumes no responsibility for any loss, damage or injury sustained by an exhibitor/owner or handler. It is distinctly understood that every dog at this show is in the care and custody and control of his owner or handler/agent during the entire time the dog is on the show premises. 8. No grooming tables, pens or exhibitors setups will be allowed in the aisles and all grooming must be done at least 20 ft. away from the judging ring in areas specified by the club. 9. Entry fees shall NOT be refunded in the event that a dog is absent, disqualified, sick, lame, excused by veterinarian or judge, barred from competition by action of the Event Committee, or because the dog is ineligible to compete due to being entered incorrectly. There is no refund of entry fees for duplicate entry. 10. Only dogs that are eligible to compete to be allowed on the grounds. 11. The Pharaoh Hound Club of America, Inc., may decline any entries for cause and may refuse to receive or may remove any dog on account of disease, viciousness or other causes, and no one shall have any claim or recourse against the Club or any official thereof. 12. If, because of riots, civil disturbances or other acts beyond the control of the management, it is impossible to open or complete the show, no refund of entry will be made. 13. Do not leave any dogs in closed vehicles. 14. A recording fee of 50 cents per dog and an event service fee of $3.00 per entry will be required for each dog entered at any Licensed or Member Club Show. These fees are to be collected by the Show-giving Club and paid to the American Kennel Club. (American Kennel Club Rule, Chapter 11, Section 2.) 15. Dogs which according to their owners records have completed the requirements for a championship after the closing of entries for the show but whose championships are unconfirmed, may be transferred from one of the regular classes to the Best of Breed Competition, provided this transfer is made by the Show Secretary at least one half hour prior to the start of the earliest Confirmation judging at the show. 16. Junior Handlers who win a third Novice Class after the Closing of entries for a show after the closing of entries for a show are required to transfer their entry from the Novice Class to the Open Class by notifying the Event Secretary at least one half-hour prior to the scheduled start of the earliest conformation judging or one half-hour prior to the scheduled start of Junior Showmanship judging at the Show, whichever is earlier. 17. All persons attending this event hereby waive any claim for damages against the Club, or its, members, in the event a motor vehicle has to be entered to rescue a dog from overheating or improperly vented conditions. 18. All vehicles parked in VIP Parking Area without VIP Pass will be ticketed and fined. 19. Parents and/or Guardians are responsible for the actions of their children.
