3 Well here we are again in the chilling winter months- I am sure we are all looking forward to seeing the sun again soon. For those escaping to Queensland for their upcoming speciality (lucky things) good luck. Our annual Championship Show was held last month at KCC Park on the Queen s birthday long weekend. It was well attended despite the change back to the one day format. Mrs Tracy Jackson from the UK was our judge and the feedback I got from her was excellent. She was impressed with our faculties and the standard of our dogs. Congratulations to all our winners and placegetters. We have had great feedback from Members on a well run and successful show especially our newest feature our Facebook page which had the live results being published which I hear interstaters loved-thanks Sarah Lay. The ring looked great and our trophy table as usual looked lovely with our prizes and perpetual trophies sitting in a blaze of purple satin. Many thanks to our committee who worked so hard to make this event so successful. I have to acknowledge our WEBMASTER Mr Stephen Wynn on the great job he has done on the new site and the continual improvements he has made-many thanks. I wish to thank our hard working committee from this year for their efforts. Those who have chosen not to continue next year are Lyn Costello and Sarah Lay. Many thanks for your contribution to our team. This year s Secretary Jenny Wynn is not re standing in this role and I thank her for the excellent job she did this last year. Nominations are still open for committee I hope to see some new faces at our AGM put their hands up to help run our club. 4 Congratulations to all class winners of the 41 st Cavalier King Charles Championship Show over the Queen s Birthday weekend. The trophy tables looked amazing on both days; the purple show ring and fold away with the Club Logo looked fantastic, I m sure you will agree and there was a great atmosphere. Thank you to Marion Gray for making the Best in Show Jacket it was beautiful and some great comments were made about the jacket and a huge thanks to all those who sponsored a Trophy and or sash. I hope you will help out next year as well. Comments that were made to committee personally and on public forums were all positive. We can t be happier about the success of the weekend. Thanks to all the people that put the effort in to make our show run smoothly. The Committee worked together well to ensure the successful outcome of the show and I would like to thank you all for your contributions. Quite a few people from the other clubs sharing the Park over the weekend came and admired our ring setup. Of course, thank you to our steward on both days Mr. Matthew Norton and Mr. Greg Browne our Show Manager the show wouldn t have run as smoothly without their savoir faire. Brian came to our assistance again with the judge, collecting Tracy and her daughter from the airport, so thanks Brian. It was lovely to see the perpetual trophies on display after their clean up. Thanks to Leanne Taylor for looking after them, arranging cleaning and adding the shields that were missing to them and delivery to the show on Sunday. The committee positions are up for nomination at the AGM August 21 st 2012 at 7.30pm. The nomination form is included in this newsletter and also for download on our website. So if you feel you have got what it takes and have a very creative mind, we would love to have you join the committee. 8 Lorri Isenhath Gordon Dovetail USA Lorri Isenhath Gordon started in the Dog world as a junior handler in She own and showed Rough Collies and English Cocker Spaniels. As a young adult she bred and showed Pembroke welsh Corgis under the prefix name Keebler. This progressed to breeding and showing Labrador Retrievers and Cavalier King Charles Spaniels under the prefix Dovetail. She has produced numerous Best in Specialty Winners, Group Winners and nationally AKC ranked dogs. The highlight of her showing Cavaliers was owning and showing BISS CKCSC USA & AKC Ch Grantilley Galliano who was winners dog at the AKC 2005 National and then Best of Opposite sex at the AKC National in He was ranked in the top 10 in 2005 and Also another favorite was CKCSC USA & AKC Ch Grantilley Northern Flame who was a group winner and ranked in the top 10 in Lorri also bred the Reserve Winner's bitch at the 2010 AKC National. Lorri started judging in 2004 in multiple breeds and junior handling. She has judged numerous AKC Cavalier specialties. As well as Labrador specialty in Brazil. She currently resides in Tennessee USA on a 150 acre farm. Her other passions include breeding, showing and trail riding gaited horses and gaited mules. Jan Törnblom, Kennel Hackensack Since childhood I have been interested in animals. And my greatest interest has been dogs and horse riding. My dog experience started when I was 16 years old and my first dog was a Labrador. After that followed Irish Setter and New Foundland until I got my first Cavalier in 1983 and 2010 Afghan hounds. Since then I have stayed with our lovely breed and has been breeding Cavaliers with great success under HACKENSACK prefix and has been Swedish Top Breeder The kennel has been showing Top Winning Cavaliers in Sweden during , and also top winning bitch Our Ch WorldWinner-03 Hackensack Razzle Dazzle is the present CC-record holder in Sweden with 20 CC s. She is the first Swedish breed and owned Cavalier who has been BOB at a World Show (Dortmund 2003). We have until now made up 58 Champions of our own and others breeding. In 2005 we received The Swedish Cavalier Club Breeders prize for excellent achievements in the breed. We are just a small kennel trying to keep as good quality as possible and are so happy with what we have achieved so far. When I am judging I try to find the soft, melting expression that is the Cavaliers trademark and separate them from other breeds but also a sound construction and movement that shows that this is a spaniel a toy spaniel. I have been awarding CC s in Cavaliers since 2005 and have been judging in Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Norway Tjeckia, Holland Canada and USA. I have also at seven occasions been judging Cavaliers at Open show level in England. Besides Cavaliers I am also authorised CC judge Chinese Cresteds, Papillon, Phalenes King Charles. Tibetian spaniel,chihuahua,shih Tsu. Pomeranian Pugs Afghan hund. I am very much looking forward to judge Best regards.. Jan Törnblom / Hackensack - 8 -

9 Judges Profile - Marian Mynott (Honeybet) I have owned Cavaliers for thirty-seven years. As a child I always wanted a dog, but my father said no. As a teenager I walked neighbours dogs and looked after friends dogs for holidays. One of the reasons I married my husband Steve was because he said I could have a dog. My first Cavalier arrived 6 months after we were married, in She was aged 7 weeks; she christened Steve s trousers and my mother s carpet, earning herself the name Penny (as in always spending a penny - a UK saying related to the cost of using public toilet facilities). Penny was a ruby out of Kormar lines with some very distinguished ancestors, Ch Aloysius of Sunninghill, (a Ch Daywell Roger grandson) and Ch Alansmere Aquarius. She was a pet and she filled our lives with fun and pleasure for almost fourteen years before we lost her to cancer. After a year of not doing all the things we said we would do if we didn t have a dog, we purchased Honey (Hazelbury Dollybird) from Richard and Mary Ford, Hazelbury Cavaliers. I decided to try dog showing and we purchased a second Cavalier, Betsy (Millhill La Cassis) from Ellie Mordecai. Some 20 years on I am still showing and also breeding Cavaliers. Although known for showing tricolours, our first real success was with a Blenheim, Honeybet Headliner. More recently we have had success with a Ruby dog, Honeybet My Way, a tri girl Honeybet Hot Rosie Lee and a currently a tri dog Honeybet Magic Touch. We currently have all four colours and I appreciate all of them for their little differences. I have been judging for around 16 years. I enjoy judging, it is the mix of emotions, excitement at seeing some lovely dogs, tinged with fear of getting it wrong. I am always happy if the exhibitors feel they have been treated fairly and appropriately, even if they do not win top honours. I have awarded CCs in the UK at the Eastern Counties Cavalier Society Championship Show for dogs and the Boston and District All Breeds Championship Show for bitches. I have also judged a speciality Cavalier Club show in the USA and awarded CACs at a Cavalier Club Show in Sweden. I have judged toy breeds and toy group at Open Show level. Future appointments include awarding CCs to both sexes at an all-breed Championship Show subject to Kennel Club approval. 10 Biography of Mrs. Tanya Engel Born in Germany in 1972, I always enjoyed numerous different pets. In 1996, shortly after my marriage, I purchased my first Cavalier, a tri color from a breeder in Germany. We showed that little dog successfully and were inexorably taken with the show virus. In 1998, after the birth of my daughter the year before, I visited Crufts for the first time. That year I purchased my foundation bitch, Crown Hunter Opium Pia, a well constructed, pretty headed and well broken bitch. Pia was bred to French Champion Island Hopper de Bhoronzov producing our Angel s Pride Aixtra Girl. She was the beginning of our tri color line and she later won the Junior World Winner Title 2000 in Italy. Aixtra Girl went on to produce German Champion Angel s Pride Love Me Do, AKC Champion Angel s Pride Love Story and Dutch Champion Angel s Pride Latin Lover who was one of the first dogs bred outside England to receive an English Stud Book Number. We went on in 2003 to show a homebred bitch in the UK. She qualified for Crufts that year and made the final 4 for the bitch CC at the UK Parent Club Show in We owe our present day winning dogs to the beautiful German & Dutch Champion Timsar Miss Teeq bred by Mrs. Annette Jones. We view her as the grand turning point in our breeding program. Crossing her to some excellent UK lines including Maibee and Miletree has produced numerous champion children and grandchildren. We have been blessed by a number of friends and mentors in the breed most notably Mrs. Shealagh Waters. In 2005 we imported German Champion Rytonion Morris Minor and later German Champion Maibee Hardy. Maibee Moffat came to be co-owned for a time. All contributed to our current dogs CH Angel s Pride Next Top Model, Angel s Pride Benjamin Button. In 2009 we bred our Anastacia to English Champion Maibee Make Believe from this breeding history was made with the lovely bitch puppy, Angel s Pride Gentle Star who won her first ticket from the puppy class in the UK. She was Best Puppy at the UK Club match for Best Puppy of the Year going on to be 2010 Top Winning Puppy of the Year. She gained her championship in 2011 at the UK Parent Club Show. Her brother, Angel s Pride Gentleman has his French, Dutch and German title, he is on 2 CCs in the UK and won BIS at the UK parent Club Show this year. Littersister Angel s Pride Gentle Maid is currently the Top AKC Bitch. I am licensed to give CC s in Germany and overseas in 14 toy breeds. I ve judged toys at the championship level in Germany and Denmark. As of 2011, I am an FCI judge with the ability to award CACIB s in overseas countries. I was honored to Judge the Dutch Cavalier Club Show last year and more than honored to judge the Badgerland CKCSC show in conjunction with the ACKCSC National Specialty for

11 Meredith Johnson-Snyder First of all, I am really excited to be doing the Cavaliers of Puget Sound Specialty. It seems like only yesterday, when as regional club coordinator for the ACKCSC, I aided the tirelessly working Chris Quinn in starting your wonderful club. At the ripe old age of 39, I married Al Snyder in 1984 and still showed the occasional German Shepherd, my original breed, and a couple of Labrador Retrievers hoping to entice Al into the show world; it took Cavaliers to do the trick!!! Al and I discovered Cavaliers in England in 1989 and became instantly besotted with the breed. Under the Rattlebridge affix, we bred and/or owned over one hundred champions in all four colors including the first AKC champion Wye Rebound of Rattlebridge, two national specialty winners Ch. Rattlebridge Masterpiece and his son Ch. Marshell Rattlebridge Renoir and four all breed best in show dogs, including the wonderful BIS, BISS Ch. Rattlebridge Adagio, who won Best of Breed and a Group III at the Garden in Our dogs have won the old Pedigree award several times. I am as proud of our dogs that serve as therapy dogs and performance dogs MACH agility winners. Al and I also bred or owned twelve Register of Merit dams and sires and sent three Cavaliers to Europe where they became International Champions. At 2006 Crufts, the lovely ruby bitch German and Int. Ch. Rattlebridge Roses Are Red took the reserve CC. At the 2006 American Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club National, two new Rattlebridge potential stars did very well: the ruby Ch. Rattlebridge Up In Lights was reserve winners dog and the Blenheim Ch. Rattlebridge From Dusk Til Dawn went Best Puppy. My beloved Al is now gone and grief has been just overwhelming, but my grief is assuaged a bit by showing and judging. I am inordinately proud of my bred by Grand Champion Rattlebridge Cyber Dawn; I showed him myself with my short, stubby, arthritic legs trying to keep up with him not only to his grand championship but also two big Specialties. I have a few hopeful puppy stars waiting in the wings and I look forward to showing them if it is God s will that I continue on a small scale in this addictive passion of breeding and showing. I have been honored to judge at the championship level several times in the UK, Columbia, Thailand, Holland, Australia and New Zealand, as well as the ACKCSC National Specialty in 2005 and several specialties. I am most honored to be judging the Cavaliers of Puget Sound Specialty!
