11 2019- Hog Record Book (12-14) Page 8 PROJECT KNOWLEDGE MARKETING One of the most important parts of any market animal project is marketing. This includes writing a letter, talking to buyers and making sure you thank your previous buyers in a timely fashion. You should NOT scribble a thank you on paper, not go in person to thank your buyer, etc. An appropriate thank you is a requirement. What did you do to market your animal this year? Did you do anything differently than before, if you participated in the past? SWINE BREED MATCHING (Write the letter from the breeds listed below with the correct definition). A. Berkshire B. Duroc C. Hampshire D. Landrace E. Poland China F. Spot G. Yorkshire White pigs with drooping ears. They are 4 th most recorded breed in the US. Females are known to produce large litters over an extended time. Black hogs with white belts across their shoulder, covering the front legs around the body. The 3 rd most recorded breed in the US. Black bodied pigs with 6 white points, including their nose tail & feet. They have erect short ears and dished snouts. Red pigs with drooping ears are the 2 nd most recorded breed in the US and a major breed in other countries. Ability to produce large litters, longevity in the female are all characteristics. Black & white bodies pigs may have a white nose, tail & feet. They have mediumsized, droopy ears. This breed stands as the embodiment of perfection in the swine industry. White Breed with erect ears is the most recorded breed in the US & Canada. They are muscular with lots of lean meat and low back fat. Their motto is The Mother Breed and a Whole Lot More White-bodied pigs have black spots & medium-sized droopy ears.
