Deb received an from a woman in Somerset telling us she had a litter of puppies available, She was told while we do not advertise or sell puppies, that we would pass her information along should any requests for puppies come to us. The following day, a woman from New Jersey contacted Deb through her personal and the two were introduced. The family from New Jersey is now owners of a male Irish puppy. Through the conversation with the woman from Somerset, Deb told her if she has a call from anyone looking for a young dog, would she let her know. It just happened she did, and so another connection was made with that family and the breeder in KY with one male left. We helped her find homes for 5 pups since last June. Networking is fun! Get your updates to Deb L. New members, get your bios and pictures to Deb! Smiling Shamrocks Tally Ling Birthdays There are no April birthdays among us! If you can be there to put in a few hours selling tickets, please let Deb know. We had several people last year that were able to rotate times and that was a big help. Donations Shirley contacted a few companies in hopes of getting products donated for our raffles. We will be renting a golf cart to move things around and transport people as needed. Skip has been our Club Chauffer. Joan will need help on the Sunday morning prior to help rope off and put up our club signs at the grounds. Also, she takes a power washer to disinfect the ring area. ISCA National Specialty Wine Country Reds, to be held in Napa Valley/Sonoma Wine Country, June 11 15, Host Club; Irish Setter Club of the Pacific. Reservations began October 3 rd. See the ISCA website for information. Joan and Sally are making their plans to attend. We are looking forward to not only show pictures, but pictures from their travels. We wish them fun and good luck! ASK PAULA - Your Pet s health; hints and tips! My Topic for the month is PARVO:

5 Don't let this wonderful early spring weather fool you. Make sure your dogs are vaccinated for Parvo. Most Veterinary clinics use a combination vaccine that covers both Canine Distemper / Parvo in one shot. This vaccination is good for 3 years in adult dogs. Meaning the ones they get as puppies are only good for 1 year. The reason I bring up the Parvo topic is because late spring and early summer are when we see parvo in dogs that have not been vaccinated. This is a very preventable disease. VACCINATE YOUR DOGS!!! This disease affects both old and mostly the young. Because of the wonderful weather we have been having the disease is already on the move in western PA. Keep in mind dogs die from PARVO, symptoms are vomiting/bloody diarrhea, and extreme nausea, and being listless. Dogs/puppies with this condition need care ASAP, resulting in several days to week of hospital care=large veterinary bills. Vaccine done correctly = CHEAP healthy pets Upcoming Events; Flower Bulb Sale - We are trying a different type of sale. Tally Ling is our chair person. Brochures were handled out at our March meeting. Tally also set it up online and an was sent to the membership. You do not have to set up an account to use this format of ordering and sharing. Click on Products and our club information is there. Any online orders are handled by the customer and the products get sent directly to them according to the Zone in which they live and planting time. Our Club will receive a check as orders are delivered. The deadline for orders is April 27 th, to either Tally (if you prefer the old fashion way) or by online ordering. By sharing through the online format, we have a chance to make a nice profit. We earn 50% of sales no matter how small or how large the order is. The nice thing is, you order and plant once, and everything continues to bloom each year. Please contact Tally with any questions you may have. Cooler/chair/gas card raffle SEE THE INFORMATION UNDER THE SPECIALTY SECTION Life with a Therapy Dog Cassie ACVO/Merial National Service Dog Eye Exam Event sign-ups take place the month of April, for free exams given in May at participating eye doctors. Check out their website. The website is; acvoeyeexam.org (free eye exams for service dogs & therapy dogs) at participating eye Drs. Cassie goes to Dr. Bagley at PVSEC! signups now in April for exams in May. From the Rescue Side ~~~~ St Francis of Assisi Medallions GTISC wishes to thank Paula for selling a huge amount of medallions for the club. Proceeds go to GTISC Rescue. Thank you to Joan for acquiring these medallions from the Nuns and sending them a donation. If you have not purchased a blessed Pet medallion for your dog(s), contact Joan or Paula. Thank you Joan and Paula. Tails From the Hills As told by Ace canine reporter Bella Ó Shea (with help from Mistress Pamela)

6 We were at the end of February.Ole man winter and Mother Nature must have been busy elsewhere in the world because here in the WV hills the weather was not winter.. At least it got cold enough to kill the stink bugs and biting bugs, sorta, kinda.. I hate bugs just like Auntie Deb. I think our bugs may have taken up residence in Auntie Deb s attic. LOL We don t have bugs! I think they may like her house better. I wondered if March would come in like a lion or lamb whatever that means, I don t know. Mistress Pam has never really explained that to me. I heard Ed and Pam discussing the weather one day. MARCH WASN T REALLY THAT BAD EXCEPT FOR THE EVERLASTING MUD, RAIN AND TORNADOES. March had St. Paddy s Day and that day is supposed to be important to us Irish pooches. I had Ed help me send out another card to my boyfriend, Diddle. I had my eye out for a four leaf clover to include, but I couldn t find one. Pam is on the exercise path now that spring is here. I have volunteered to walk with Pam anytime she wants to. Her job is much too sedentary and she has gotten, soft. Ed teasingly had another word for it but she wouldn t allow. Not nice!! She does not need to ask if I would like to accompany her, I will remind her! She must get into better shape to keep up with Ed and me! We are fit from our daily patrols on the property. Recently, Pam took a picture of me after the big winds of March I was having a bad hair day and Pam got so tickled she fell to the ground laughing. I went up to her fearing that she was not well and licked her right ear. Pam reached up and petted me and gave me a big hug.. I wagged my tail and ran in zig zags. I love attention from my Mistress, except the grooming thing. On walks Pam likes to sneak up on me when I am pointing and pinch me on the tail dock. I jump and run. Pam likes to stalk me. In return, I sneak up on her and grab her hand.. I am not rough with her like I am with Ed. I don t believe she likes to play rough. I got a big surprise in March Pam and Ed said they were going to drive me to PA to see Auntie Joan and I get to meet other Irish and be in a rescue parade..that will be fun but not as great as seeing Joan again However, Ed has to babysit his grandchildren in GA while his daughter returns to the Mayo Clinic for more tests. I miss Joan and especially Diddle he s my boyfriend you know. We used to play with each other in our childhood. We shared toys and everything. Something wonderful happened in March. Ed and Pam went for a trail ride and invited little ole me to come along. MY first TRAIL RIDE! They rode up the hill and called for me to come. I hesitated a long time as this part of the property has always been forbidden territory. After several invitations to accompany them, I cautiously began to climb the very steep hill. We have some steep hills in WV you know. It was awesome, a whole new world to conquer! That part of the property is filled with trees, brush, and critters. I like to chase and bark at critters. I stayed far from the feet of the horses as I have been tumbled once. Anyway, it was a great experience and I hope to get another invite this month. Well March came in like a lamb and went out like a lion.. Big storms went through and then it snowed..strange but I liked it Now I hear all these things chirping and occasionally I see them jump Ed told me not to pick them up in my mouth. He said toads were nasty! He said they will make me sick like they did the doxie, Trinket, when she licked one. Still, I am curious when I see them. If I licked one, would it turn into Diddle? In Mid-March Pam and Ed got me down in the floor and they both played with me First I Thought PAM was going TO GET ME WITH THE BRUSH AND COMB AGAIN, but she didn t. Instead she patted and kissed my belly what a pleasant surprise! I just love being adored, don t you? I wish this year we could have an Irish get together on Goose Creek. Just for all the rescue and GTISC people We pooches could take to the woods and run our people crazy with worry! LOL We could also have a fun show and an agility run.. it would be fun. We could just sit on the sidelines and watch out people strut their stuff as we cheered them on! Hee, hee, hee. Our people could then have a great big picnic and music.woof woof.. Well a girl can dream can t she? Again it is time to say good bye till the May issue of Tails. I hope this month s weather will be kinder to us all. Lick your people, go to bed on time, keep your show coats clean, and have a wonderful April. This is Cousin Bella O Shea from the hills of West Virginia saying WOOF, WOOF. Club News and Reminders Congratulations to Kristen K. from Natrona Heights PA for winning the pair of Hockey tickets. The ticket was sold by Deb Lawrence through her nail salon. Deb heard that the two had a really fabulous time! We thank Kristen for supporting our club.

7 Bob would like to start a Club Journal. This will hold memories of each show weekend and also reminders of where we may need to make changes or additions each year. This will be available both days for those members who are attending/helping to write down their thoughts, suggestions or positive comments. This will only help to continue with our success. Annual Awards Award applications were due to Deb Lawrence by March 31 st. Due to her computer out of order, she has extended the deadline till April 15 th. Anyone who participated in the ATTS event needs to turn in their information for an award. Deb has only received 3 so far. Award apps are on our website. Our next meeting will be April 25 th, 7:30 Denny s Harmar. PLEASE try to attend. This is the last meeting BEFORE our shows. Please make a note; May s general meeting is Saturday May 26 th, following our show & hospitality, at the site.
