Besides the main entrée for each day, the club will provide the paper products and beverages. Decorations will be handled by Sally Evans. Her magic touch for the potted florals makes a beautiful touch for the rings. Sally and Joan have purchased light up dogs which will sport green jackets and a green derby to stand guard at the rings. Silent Auction Ellen has volunteered to chair the rescue auction again this year. We have items donated by Kim and Nancy Haupt and books from Betty Fleming for our auction. Ellen will need some co-chairs for this year. Please let her know if you are available. Thank you to the Haupt s and Ms. Fleming for their donations. All proceeds go to GTISC rescue. This will be held on Saturday. Paula has been helping the past few years but will not be able to attend this year. Jeff and Paula s youngest son is graduating from Kiski-Prep that weekend. Congratulations to the Fannin Family. Basket Raffle Deb will be gathering and putting together the baskets. Please get your items to her anytime. She is hoping to have baskets completed and delivered to Joan s motor home about two weeks before the shows. So far she has a cat basket, a car care basket, a Christmas basket, two dog baskets, and an Irish basket. Proceeds from our raffle are to help cover costs of holding a show. This will be held Saturday. Winners will be drawn following breed judging.

4 Rescue Parade Joan has purchased and donated rosettes for the parade. We are holding this on our own so that there is no entry fee. Please pass the word to anyone with rescues to contact Joan through our website. We will be providing bags of goodies to each dog that participates. While the club has made some purchases of items for the bags, Joan has also donated some goodies to the bags. We thank Joan for her generosity and all of her time and passion for the rescue program. Our GTISC family members are Tula Fannin, Marley Fiser, Bailey & Molly Halloran and Cassie & Ginger Calmbacher. Coleman Cooler, gas card and chair raffle are the items for this year s raffle project. The gas card will be for $150. Joan has donated the folding chair. The combined value of the items is $300. The costs of the tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. A book is $9. Joan is the chairperson. A book of tickets will be mailed out in a few weeks. If you want any before then, please contact Joan. We thank Joan for chairing this project and for her donation. Proceeds from this event are to help cover costs of holding a show. Drawing is Sunday following breed judging. Vendor area we will have our raffle items in the vendor area near the main rings on Thursday and Friday. Help to sell tickets and man the tables is needed. Deb, Skip and Joan will get it all set up Wednesday so it is ready to go for Thursday morning. Friday late afternoon, all items will need to moved to our judging area for Saturday. If you can be there to put in a few hours selling tickets, please let Deb know. We had several people last year that were able to rotate times and that was a big help. We will be renting a golf cart with a cart to move things around and transport people as needed. Skip has been our Club Chauffer. ISCA National Specialty Wine Country Reds, to be held in Napa Valley/Sonoma Wine Country, June 11 15, Host Club; Irish Setter Club of the Pacific. Reservations began October 3 rd. See the ISCA website for information. Joan and Sally are making their plans to attend. Deb mailed the National Catalog Ad to the appropriate person. Also, instead of sending a Pittsburgh Basket, a check was sent to their Basket chairperson, Noelle Seusey, who will put together a basket on our behalf. It will be a Saturday Night basket of bath and grooming dog products. Deb sent a Pittsburgh Postcard to use as the gift basket tag with our name on it. The host club was very appreciative. We are seeing more and more lymes disease and other tick associated illnesses. Don t be caught without preventative medicine for fleas, ticks and heartworm. You and your dog s life depend on it :) Paula has agreed to add some medical tips to our newsletter each month. If you have a particular question, feel free to ask Paula and she will be happy to answer you.

7 Newman from De Pere, WI. from the Rescue side. Joan continues to get inquiries about rescue availability. With none in our program, she refers them to ISCO rescue and Deanna from the Region 1 Rescue of ISCA. Tails From the Hills As told by ace canine reporter, Bella O Shea, (And my side-kick, Ed) Belated Happy Valentine s Day A little late, but I wish each and every one of you pooches and people a Happy Valentine s Day. February 14 was Valentine s Day and with the help of my buddy, Ed, I sent my good friend Diddle my Valentine s wishes. I grew very fond of him during my stay with Aunt Joan Fiser. I will visit him this summer for sure! Mistress Pam says so! Security patrol Security against intruders is a necessary evil in these times. This entails barking at strangers at the neighbor s lake, strange acting kitties, transient canines, neighbors in different or strange clothing, etc., etc. I have set up some priorities: Established outposts I have designated sniffing spots and vantage points that I have developed during my many months with the Prichard Family. There is this one hole under a tree root that I know is a danger to all! I also have several high vantage points to survey my territory. I show reluctance to leave my post at times for fear that something terrible might befall my humans, siblings, or my happy home. (Crouching Irish, reluctant Edward) At my insistence, Ed and I must roll out on a schedule. Only I know when it is time! I assume the crouching Irish position and bark and whine till I get the old man motivated. I have scheduled two to three patrols a day you know. Ed seems to underestimate the importance of our duty. I take my job seriously! Keep the old fellow moving A brisk walk from barn to house gets the old man s heart and respiratory working hard! It s good for old Ed and the patrol helps him get his rates back in the normal range and keeps his winter fat down! If you have inactive people in your pack, you might want to set them up with a rigorous activity schedule too. Slip slidin away There has been a sighting of a red fox in our driveway. The family s swan geese have been at liberty to greet visitors, hang by the back door, and create a massive swampland. After observing the hungry red fox, the geese were confined to the fenced in side yard when not being supervised. That quickly became a big problem for the Prichard s. No traction and the geese would avoid my people by running up the muddy bank behind the house. My help and expertise was never asked for. I watched those silly humans slip and slide as they tried to herd those silly geese. That old red fox will have to work harder to have goose for dinner now. Time to play After work it s time to play! Ed usually says he is too tired and needs personal time to reflect. NOT!! ED is a wimp! I get bored easily. I m not tired, I m BORED! No time to lie around when I am only three. After a few rounds of catch the toy in the air and March along with it, it is pat yer belly time. That really gets me wild! I love to growl with ferocity during playtime. I finally submit to crawling up on the couch with my Mistress to watch some TV. No Lassie, no Rin Tin Tin, just an occasional dog bark which brings me flying off the couch to the back door to check for intruders I have to be really quick to beat those rascal doxies to the door. Nervous stomach and disgusting presents In February Ed took me in the truck over to see his mom in the old people s home. I was so excited to go see Granny Prichard. Since my feet and feathers were muddy and it was to be a very quick visit, he left me in the truck. Needless to say I was devastated. When he returned to the truck, he could tell I was upset. I barfedi I missed the cloth upholstery of front seat but deposited a gross, smelly package on the floor carpet. That should teach Ed never to leave me in the truck.. Ed was also so upset that he either misplaced or lost his debit card and had to cancel it. One more gross out.one morning before Pam went to work. (She actually works) I came in and dropped a brown present on Ed s leg. He screamed Oh My Gosh!!!!!!!!! It was a Doxie dropping. Hee hee hee- He wasn t the least bit impressed with my gift to him.. Out of steam All good things must come to an end. And so another eventful day on Goose Creek must always do the same. Evening potty break for we canines is at 9:30 PM and crate time is at 10:00 sharp! Old puppies go out the back where there are only three steps and we

8 youngsters go out to the fenced front yard with eight steps. Mistress Pam says that someday we all will need a ramp, maybe even Mr. Ed! As I said, all things must come to an end. It seems that I have run out of barks, whines, and howls again for this month. My people and I wish you and your people an early spring, daffodils, and butterflies. Stay out of the mud! From the Hills of WV, Sniffs and licks for all, Life with a Therapy Dog Cassie Cassie has been visiting for Therapy Dog International since She is quite good at it as she can be pulled, pushed, screamed at (which happens a lot), or just hugged and she takes it all with a wagging tail! She has been busy lately visiting for hospice. While we were visiting yesterday Cassie started backing away from one of the residents. I thought, "what is happening?" "It doesn't look good when a therapy dog is backing away from a resident!" "She had never done this before." I then found out the man had just smoked a cigarette! Cassie hates cigarette smoke and will take off running if given the chance! The man left, Cassie was fine, and we continued visiting! :) We are never sure what we might get into while visiting but Cassie always seems to handle it like a "lady"! She loves people and we both have a great time!
