1 THE DACHSHUND CLUB OF NSW INC to promote Dachshunds in all forms of endeavour E News No 26 THE LOW DOWN August / September, 2017 On Dogs NSW s website, any member can view the four generation pedigree of every dog registered by its breeder - right back to the early 1970s. However, other information (eg ownership, achievements, photographs etc) is not available on-line. For many years, Dogs NSW and the other State authorities have collected marked catalogues, magazines, breed publications, significant trophies and other memorabilia. The six Handbook and Records volumes compiled and published to date by the National Dachshund Council are the official record of Dachshunds in Australia, going back to They are a key item for the bookshelves of all breeders with interest in where the six varieties Dachshunds have been, and are going, and they are the official reference books for the libraries and archives of Dogs NSW and the other canine control authorities in Australia. The latest NDC Handbook will be released at the 2018 Dachshund National in Sydney in April next year and its compilation well under way. For those of you who haven t yet forwarded scans of the pedigrees of the Dachshunds that you have titled since the 2014 Dachshund National at Newcastle, there is still time to include your dogs. Please send them to Kathy Anderson ASAP kathy0012@bigpond.com or contact her for further information. In NSW, the wealth of information already collected about pedigree dogs in Australia has been in storage at the Bill Spillstead Complex at Orchard Hills, waiting to find a permanent home in a library and archives building. At long last, a new building is looking more likely to become a reality and much material about the history and development of Dachshunds in NSW and Australia will become more accessible in Sydney. Let s hope that comprehensive information about your Dachshunds will be found there one day! The Club holds three Championship Shows each year two at Easter and one in August All members are invited to attend the General Meetings which are held bi-monthly in February, April, June, August, October and December on the second Wednesday of the month at the meeting room at the Dundas Sport & Recreation Club, 9 Elders Road, Dundas. The Annual General Meeting is held on the second Wednesday in August. The membership support for most of the activities our club 2 puts on is much appreciated. Nikki McLeod, who is now in her 15 th year as our Secretary, has more than normal to deal with since she and husband Andrew

have now bought a farm. This has added to the already busy work load. When you put the Club workload into the mix, I just don t know how she gets to the end of the Day!

Her efforts with the Lotto to raise money towards the National is much appreciated by all. Pat has also helped out with the ribbon order and the trophies so a big thank you to Pat.

Our Low Down Editor Doug McKay has done a good job in getting news to the members. Thanks also to Marlene Marinkovic for her help in getting the snail mail copies to the members like me. Smith, Nikki McLeod and her daughter Abbey, Nikki Anastas and pet people Alexis Bromage and Shannon Harlows. Thanks heaps to all for such a great job. This publicity for our breed is priceless. All this effort put into campaigning our breed to the public has helped with their popularity. It has also helped us being able to get a more realistic price for our puppies as well as educating the public about Dachshunds. DCNSW stand Dog Lovers Show 5-6/8/2018 Judy Phillips has also got the role of Puppy Coordinator and she has done a great job in looking after all the demand which for us is just great for Dachshunds. Judy, thanks heaps! 15 th DCNSW Double Earthdog Tests 17/6/2018 Doug is also in charge of our Earth Dogs we now only have one day run by our Club with two Trials but it is pleasing to see there are a few more Dachshunds getting involved. Well done Doug and many thanks to you. Our Publicity Officer Judy Phillips has got our breed to the fore at Dogs NSW Dogs on Show Open Day held on 17 June 2017, and again at the Sydney Dog Lovers Show on 5 and 6 August 2017 at Moore Park. They had a good number of Dachshunds to show off to the public and all the helpers were run off their feet. The interest in our breed is great. Judy s helpers were her daughter Jo who came down from Queensland, Kim Rubbo, Don Thanks to Paul Bevins for running the raffle to raise money towards the National. Thanks also to Nikki Anastas for her help in selling the dog blankets to raise money, also towards the National. The Club held three Championship Shows in this period. The Show Secretary again was Sue Rose. Thanks Sue for all your help. It was much appreciated you doing this work when you were in the process of moving house. To Tom Couchman who takes the entries, compiles and produces the catalogue thanks for a job well done. To all the people who helped with setting up the rings and taking them down a huge thank you. 4 The 134 th Championship Show was once again held in conjunction with Dogs NSW Spring Fair. The judge here was Dr Toyohiko Watanabe from Japan. Thanks to the Pug Club of NSW for allowing us to use Marie as the judge. Third, the 136 rd Championship Show held on Easter Sunday judged by Mrs Nora Price (UK). Best in Show was awarded to Standard Smooth Dog Tishamingo Lightning Macqueen. What a weekend for the Walkers! To all the membership we need all the help we can get for the upcoming National Show. This is a very big undertaking and to make it special we need the support of all members so please put up your hand if you feel you can help. I would like to welcome the new Committee for the coming year and look forward to a successful year and National event.
