2 Meet the Second Couple Headed Down the Aisle in Double Muttrimony Ceremony Chi-Chi, a 2 pound, 10 ounce Chihuahua beauty (age 17) and Teddy Bear, a handsome 7 pound Yorkshire Terrier (age 11) will be joined in Muttrimony on May, 16, 2015 at 1:30 pm, at the Conneaut Lake Bark Park. The parents of the Chihuahua bride and the Yorkie groom are Jan and Terry Werneth of Pinehurst Farm Art Studio, Meadville Pa. After Chi-Chi s former Chihuahua partner was taken away in a divorce settlement, Chi-Chi remained single for 4 years. A deserving Chihuahua partner could not be found. Finally, this sweet little Yorkie arrived and now, 11 years later a Mixed Marriage is in order. Please come and join us for the festivities at the Bark Park on May 16th.

3 Wanted.. Kids and Their Dog Saturday, June 20 th, the Conneaut Lake Bark Park will celebrate kids and their dog. This very special day will begin at 11:00 am. and conclude with an Ice Cream Social at 2p.m. The featured activities will highlight kids 6-12 years of age and their doggie companion competing in fun, age appropriate competition. All kids must be accompanied by a parent or legal age guardian. Dogs must be on a 4 or 6 foot leash and no flexie leashes are permitted. Below is a list of the activities for the day: 1. Dog Bite Safety education information 2. 4H Information 3. Basic Obedience Competition - kids will be asked to have their dog sit, down, stay, come, and walk on a leash 4. Dog and Kids relays 5. Dog and Kid Obstacle Course 6. My Dog has Talent Contest 7. 4 Dog Bite Safety Procedures Each year, an estimated half of the 4.5 million dog bites involve children. Children between ages five and nine are significantly more likely to receive medical attention from dog bites. Sometimes these dogs are strangers, but more often they re family pets or the pets of close relatives or friends. It is always important for parents to teach their children safe habits and behaviors for meeting, playing with, and handling dogs. Our local therapy dog organization, Paws Hand Delivered, has been educating the special needs students in many of the Crawford Central classrooms. Ideally, there should be a dog safety program presented to all children from kindergarten to junior high in all of our local elementary schools. Below are some do s and don ts of Dog Safety. Parents are urged to take a few extra minutes and review these procedures with their children. Do s 1. Always ask the owner s permission before petting a dog. 2. Remember: not every dog that wags its tail is friendly. 3. Always approach a dog slowly and carefully. 4. When meeting a new dog, let it come to you and smell you first. 5. Stay away from stray dogs 6. If a dog approaches you, remain calm. Don t scream. Stand still 7. If you are attacked, cover your head and neck. Protect your face. Don ts 1. Don t make loud noises and run around dogs 2. Don t bother a dog while it is sleeping or eating 3. Never take food or toys away from a dog. 4. Never tease a dog 5. Never reach through a fence or into cars to pet a dog 6. Never put your hand between two dogs fighting 7. Never put your face close to a dog 8. Never enter a yard with a dog in it without permission 9. Don t bother a mother dog when she is caring for her puppies 10. Never pull a dog s ears or tail.

5 Bark Park Reminders If you are a Bark Park member, be sure you have your parking pass or Friend of the Bark Park sticker visible on the dash of the car when you are using the Bark Park. If you have multiple cars, be sure to pick up additional passes. If you didn t get one when you renewed, just stop in the Dog House and pick one up. If you are still using coupons, drop off a coupon in the trailer in the basket inside the door. We hope to have pop and snacks available in the trailer for dog owners using the Bark Park. Yappy Hours and Saturday Social Time We are making final plans for this summer s Happy Hour, Yappy Hour and Saturday Social Time for Bark Park members and those pet owners that use the Dog House Services. Plans include guidelines for attending the Happy Hour at the Mariner Restaurant on Rte 18N, just past the Oakland Beach Golf Course. If you are familiar with the restaurant, they have a perfect outside area where pet owners can socialize with other pet owners. The Saturday Social Time will occur on the Bark Park property and the Bark Park will provide coffee and donuts for the social time. Additional information will be posted on our Facebook and also in a separate sent to Bark Park and Dog House Services users when these fun activities begin. Wanted-A Telephone Pole The Bark Park is looking for a used telephone pole to be donated for placement of an evening light near the off-leash areas. If you know of one that may be available, let us know. Community Flea Market & Canine Carnival Circle your calendar for May 16 th for the 2 nd annual Bark Park Community Flea Market and the ever popular Canine Carnival and Muttrimony. 6 Spring and Summer Classes Signups for A4E Classes were brisk during our opening weekend, so you should sign-up NOW for any A4E Classes you are considering. Most recent addition to the class roster is the new Painting Class being offered by A4E Artist, Janice Werneth. This class will be held at Jan s resident studio (just down the road from the RED BARN). NAVAJO RUG-WEAVING & FABRIC ART: Join A4E Master Fabric Artist, Judy Hanninen. You can also learn the Arts of Spinning, Weaving, and Drop-Spindle Spinning from Judy. Cost per class is $30. Materials are included. Please contact George Nowack to register: NATURE PHOTOGRAPHY: Students will be guided through the Art of Nature Photography by one of the Region s most respected and recognized Nature Photographers, Terry Werneth. Each class will be a one-on-one experience with the instructor, and will take place in of the region s wildlife areas/trails. Students must provide their own photography equipment. Session times and dates are arranged through the Instructor. Cost is $30. BEGINNING WOODWORKING: Open to students Students will learn the basics of woodcraft as they construct and paint their own birdhouses from kits supplied by the instructor. Completed birdhouses may be taken home by the student, or may be installed upon one of our regional participating trails. Cost: $50, includes all materials. Instructor: G. Nowack. ZENTANGLE: Beginners class available 3rd weekend May through August. Beginners class costs $ This includes: pen, paper, pencil, and patterns, short history and lots of fun! Class time is from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm Sat or Sun depending on interest. Regular Zentangle Class is available after you take beginner class for $10 each. A discount is offered if you pre-register for beginners class and the following 3 classes: $50.This Must be prepaid. Registration 3 to 5 days in advance, and prepayment is encouraged so we may start on time and get to Tangling!! FLY-TYING CLASS: Fly-tying classes on the 3rd weekend June through August. Time of class 1:30pm to 3:00 pm Saturday or Sunday depending on interest. Cost: $10.00 per class or $25.00 for all three classes (to receive discount must be prepaid and preregistered). This cost includes all needed materials for the flies that will be constructed (warm water flies). Preregistration and payment need to be made three to five days prior to class start. Tyers must have their own equipment. For more information, contact Derek Gladysiewski at (724) WATERCOLOR CLASS: Watercolor classes will be held at the RED BARN at the student s convenience on either Sat. or Sun., throughout the season, either during or immediately after regular Barn hours (10AM-4PM). Materials, except for brushes) are included. Cost is $40. Session duration is based on student request. Student may visit the RED BARN to paint whenever he/she wishes after the basic class. THE ART OF PENCIL-STIPPLING: Learn this ancient Art form of drawing through the simple placement of pencil dots. Anyone can create a wonderful piece of Artwork using this incredible technique. All materials are included. Class schedule will be determined at the student s request. Cost for the entire class is $40. FABRIC-WREATH CLASS: Join A4E Artist, Becky Schellhaas, for this new and delightful class. Participants will create a beautiful wall/door decoration in the form of a HUGE, decorated summer wreath just in time for this year s season.
