1 Come Bark With Me Martin The Conneaut Lake Bark Park Newsletter Volume 5, Issue 7, July 2013 You ve Come a Long Way Bark Park In the past five years, Conneaut Lake Bark Park has worked to provide a safe, friendly dog facility in Crawford County, meeting the needs of dog owners and their canine companion. We have accomplished so much and Phase II is scheduled to finally begin in November Below is a partial listing of what Conneaut Lake Bark Park can offer to the dog owner. The Bark Park Facility: Open from dawn to dusk, 365 days of the year 3 off-leash, fenced areas 2 ponds 1 ½ miles of open walking trails An outdoor training/off-leash area Adequate on-site parking Small retail store Handicap-accessible port-o-john A ½ mile wooded, Rustic trail Dock diving only regulation, outdoor dock diving platform in Northwestern PA Training classes sponsored by the Bark Park, conducted by Groovy Pooch Training: Puppy, basic and advanced obedience Beginning and intermediate Rally classes Private classes Temperament screening by certified trainers Community Advertising and Partnerships: Our website provides information for any pet owner interested in our programs, events, services at the Bark Park Our Facebook page has over 800 likes and frequently posts photos, comments, information updates, etc. We distribute over 10,000 rack cards annually throughout Crawford County COOL radio broadcast every Monday morning with Dave Hanahan Armstrong cable recently completed our 10 th My Dog and Me program Armstrong Cable On Demand. 3 A Sneak Peak You ve heard about the new Bark Park Facility, now you can see just what is in store for members, their canine companions, and visitors to the Conneaut Lake Bark Park. Here are some pictures of what the building will house, as well as a look at the outside. There were 569 off-leash dog parks in the 100 largest US cities in 2010, a 34 percent jump in five years. Parks overall increased only 3 percent in that time.

4 Agility Trials Return Touch Tunnel Weave Come to the Tamarack Dog Agility Trials and enjoy the competition and the spirit as canines compete in agility courses. Trials will be held July 26, 27, and 28 from 9 am to 3 pm each day. The event is open to the public. Refreshments will be available to purchase and several dog oriented vendors will also be in attendance. Owners with their dogs watching the trials are asked to please keep their dogs away from the agility ring when competition is occurring.

5 Dog Spotlight My name is Cabella, aka Bella. I m a 1 year old English Mastiff. I came from West Virginia where my parents picked me up in Cabela s parking lot, hence my name. I now reside in Meadville. My parents were very happy to get me, but I wasn t sure about them. I was slow to trust and scared of everything and everyone. Now we re one big happy family: me, Mom, and Dad. Oh, and there are those two cats I live with, Bubba and Princess. I try to be friends with the cats in the house. They however, have other ideas about that. We live quite close to the Bark Park which makes me very happy. Just say Bark Park and my ears perk right up and I m ready to go. I started coming to the Bark Park at the beginning of May. I love playing at the park where I have met many friends, Cola, Remy, Mia, Jayne, Toby, Sadie, Gus, Moo and Scout. But I am not sure if Scout would call me his friend, I like taking his balls and sometimes he gets upset with me. He taught me to love chuck-it., a fun ball chasing game. The only thing I do not like about the park is when my dad threw me in the pond. They think I should swim and dock dive but this pretty girl does not like water. Besides the Bark Park, I like to chew. I chew on my bones, my squeaky toys, tennis balls and my mom s shoes. I like to chew holes in my toys to de-squeak and de-stuff them. But as soon as I make a mess all through the house my mom takes it. A Good Time to Join the Bark Park With the new building and the additional services available including an overnight kennel, air conditioned doggie day care, and the laundra-mutt, six months or longer memberships at the Bark park will benefit from exclusive monthly specials for using the new facility. And don t forget, memberships will continue to include use of the 65 acres, the off-leash areas, scheduled play times, dock diving, and use of the three walking trails. Become a Bark Park Volunteer You love dogs, but just don t have one of your own because of where you live, your job, etc. Why not become a volunteer at the Bark Park. Be a dog walker or just a doggie sitter, there will be plenty of opportunities to volunteer and interact with the dogs. Each volunteer will be asked to take a two hour free seminar. Keep checking the website or future copies of Come Bark with Me as the volunteer plans continue to be developed. Trade of Services It is great to be able to spend time with our dogs and many of us realize the importance of dogs socializing with one another in a playful environment. Unfortunately, sometimes we don t have the necessary extra funds to participate in certain activities available to other pet owners. If you think you have a specialty or some extra time and would be interested in trading services for some portion of a Bark Park membership, contact Sue at Therapy Dogs If you would like to become involved in the pet therapy group, Paws Hand Delivered/Therapy Dogs Incorporated, the next testing is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, September 21. 6 HOW FAR WE HAVE COME by George P. Nowack THE RED BARN The RED BARN GALLERY & STUDIO grew as a direct application of the economic redevelopment plan I established for the Commonwealth of PA nearly three years ago. This plan maintained that the effect of the Arts Communities across the State can be directly linked to the general economic progress of the entire region. In other words, NOTHING exists in isolation every group and organization has a direct effect upon every other. Thus, it makes perfect sense that I would choose to establish the Gallery in a venue in which I already believe and support. The results of the Gallery were presented to the CLBP Board of Advisors at our most recent meeting. From the information presented, it is easy to glean the fact that the Gallery is currently successful in fulfilling its primary intended purpose: to provide a means of support and publicity for the CLBP, and its Participating Artist members. Both myself and the Artists representing in the RED BARN GALLERY & STUDIO are very pleased with the results of our efforts. Your support of our endeavors in much appreciated!
