Smack in the middle of the Winter I bring you this issue in the hopes that you all will start thinking Spring and all the fun things you can do with your GSD. Best Wishes go out to Karen Von Sneirden who is recovering from a Hip replacement. As you can see from our upcoming events, we have a lot on our plate. Mabby getting a belly rub from Gov Lynch Officer Jay Durgin w/k9 Emma, Diane Benoit, Gov Lynch, Linda Colby and Shannon Tolly w/mabby Through the efforts of our membership Chair, The German Shepherd Dog Club of Southern New Hampshire proudly sponsored the K-9 Veterans Commendation. Governor Lynch signed the commendation on Friday, September 18th at the NH State House. It recognizes the training of all K-9s in all branches of military, customs, search and rescue, police and disability work. 3 Q: What happens to dogs who run behind cars?a: They end up exhausted. BRAGZ Cont. Anita and Barkley received their RN (with scores of 97, 100, 94, 2 first place wins and a tie for 4th but they did get a 1st for being the GSD specialty). Barkley also received his Therapy Dog Title! 4 Page 4 MEMBER PROFILE MARK CARBONEAU IS CURRENTY ON THE GSDCSNH BOARD My involvement in the world of German Shepherd Dogs began when I was about 12. My shepherd-cross had been injured and there was a local breeder within walking distance to my house. She had two litters of puppies at the time and took my cross to the vet with me. I worked off the vet per hour cleaning and caring for the puppies. As time went on., I started working with the best puppies walking on a leash and before you knew it we were going to match shows. AI showed in breed and junior handling. That was I began showing for other breeders and was very fortunate to see in person some of the famous GSD of their day including Ch Cobert s Reno of Lakeside, BIS Ch Lakeside s Gilligan Island, Ch Hawkeye ROM, GV Ch Valtara s Image, GV Covy-Tucker Hills Rosemary and her mother 7X Select Angelique, and the list goes on and on. Specialty shows were huge in those days. It would not be unusual for an entry to be 90+ dogs including some German Imports. I then went to college at The University of Massachusetts with a major in Animal Sciences. I taught a college accredited course there for 4 years called Pure-Bred Dogs. We covered a variety of topics and had numerous guest speakers and live demonstrations from obedience to conformation and protection. Breed handling classes have been something I have enjoyed doing from the early 1980 s on. I have been fortunate over the years to be able to associate with training centers where we could conduct classes. (cont) The greater love is a mother's; then comes a dog's; then a sweetheart's." 5 Page 5 Member Profile CONT. From these years of classes I have been fortunate to work with numerous champions and group winners who came to class as novice beginners. My affiliation with the GSDCSNH has been longstanding and I was the President for several years in the 1990 s and remain and active board member. I am still very active with current handling classes at Gail Fisher s All Dogs Gym in Manchester, and have some serious plans to return to showing very soon. I also have future aspirations including further breeding, showing in conformation, and judging. The German Shepherd Dog has been a passion of my life since childhood and I am very fortunate today for the experiences I ve had and for my friends involved with the breed.
