2 Welcome to our 64 th sale, which is an online auction only, comprising 700 lots offering a wide range of Australian and world-wide material. All Australian Colonies are represented. New South Wales has a good range, with emphasis on a collection of overseas mail from 1860 to South Australia has several lots of Postage & Revenue SPECIMEN stamps, including one sheet signed by Postmaster-General Charles Todd. Tasmania has some fine imperforate classics and covers and from Victoria a highlight is the printing contract for the Campbell & Fergusson Half-Lengths. Western Australia has an unused 6d Sage-green Imperf, a rarely offered stamp. Australian Commonwealth has a good lot of Kangaroos, highlighted by a block of 24 of the 1d Die 2 plate proof, one of the largest surviving pieces, and a 1 Grey imprint block. The George V Sideface issues include some useful groups of plate varieties, particularly in the 1½d Die I, and three plated 1d Red single-line perf from the Left Plates. An exceptional single rarity is a block of four of the 5d comb perf in a very deep shade. There is a wide range of George VI and Queen Elizabeth II issues, including useful collection lots, die proofs and plate varieties. The Decimal issues include two large lots of c plate numbers. Australian Commonwealth postal history is highlighted by a collection of King George VI usages broken into suitable groups, and an extensive range of aerophilately includes a number of crash covers and covers from interrupted flights. There is also a good range of postal stationery including a number of scarce pieces. For the Rest of the World there a number of single country collection lots. There is better representation for France, Germany, Great Britain, Mauritius, New Guinea and New Zealand, and a specialised group of Peru including proofs, specimens and postal history. Throughout there are also a number of individual rarities, including Finland p Black on Buff Error of Colour (a major world rarity), Mauritius d Sherwin used, and 2d Dardenne unused, New Guinea 2d Bird of Paradise die proof, New Zealand KGVI die proofs, and Peru s postage due used. A rare use when neither the Molong numeral obliterator nor datestamp were available. The manuscript numeral is not recorded by Freeman, and the Type 1 and Type 2 numerals are both rated RRRRR $ C 1853 (14 Sep) cover to Dublin franked with 2d Ultramarine Plate I Laureate (four margins) and 3d Dull Yellow-green Laureate (touched to large margins) tied by Sydney barred obliterator, endorsed 'first opportunity' and 'Per Victoria', Sydney, London and Dublin backstamps, and with mss'8(d)' due as an incoming ship letter. Slight soiling, otherwise fine and an unusual rating as 3d was the correct ship letter rate from Sydney, 5d representing the country rate of 2d + 3d ship letter $ C 1855 (13 Sep) cover to Neston, Cheshire (subsequently redirected to Birkenhead) franked with 2d Prussian Blue on Bluish Plate III Laureate strip of 3 and singles (x 3) tied by Type 1A '105' numerals (Bendemeer, rated RRR, but mostly illegible), and with 'AUSTRALIAN/PAID/LIVERPOOL/PACKET' cds and '5(d)' accountancy handstamp, both in red. Backstamps of Bendemeer and Sydney, plus Chester (2, one in blue), Neston and Birkenhead (both in green). Stamps with some faults including pinholes and cover with some soiling and small peripheral faults, but an attractive franking and a very early date (? earliest) for the Plate III unwatermarked 2d Laureate $ C 1855 (22 Dec) cover franked with 6d Slate-green Imperf Diadem (three good margins, touched at lower left) cancelled Sydney barred obliterator, Sydney despatch backstamp, and with 'AUSTRALIAN/PAID/ LIVERPOOL/PACKET' cds, London arrival cds and '5'(d) accountancy handstamp, all in red. Very fine, and carried on the 9th homeward voyage of the European & Australian Royal Mail contract $ C 1858 (10 Jul) cover to London franked 6d Grey Imperf Diadem (four close to large margins) tied by Sydney duplex, with London arrival cds in red on reverse. Repaired vertical tear at left, however of very fine appearance. Carried on the 18th homeward voyage of the European & Australian Royal Mail contract (per 'Emeu') $ C 1858 (10 Dec) cover from Sydney to London with 6d Greenish-grey Imperf Diadem (very fine with four good to large margins) tied by 'N.S.W.' in ovals and endorsed 'pr Columbian', carried on the 23rd homeward voyage of the European & Australian Royal Mail contract. Couple of small stains at top of envelope, otherwise very fine $ C 1859 (29 Jan) entire to Melbourne franked with 6d Grey Imperf Diadem (three margins, touched at base) tied by Sydney duplex and endorsed 'City of Sydney', with Sydney despatch backstamp and 'SHIP LETTER/FREE/G.P.O. Both covers with 25mm circular 'PAID/ALL' handstamps, and with New York Paid All arrival ds on reverse. Peripheral staining and tears on both, though a scarce pair (2 covers) $100T 6

A fine set in above-average quality for these (7) $ S -: 15 Silver Perf 10 overprinted SPECIMEN (12mm), heavily hinged otherwise fine with part OG $ S 1891 Presentation Sheet with imprint ' ' and bearing mounted 'POSTAGE & REVENUE' 2/6d to 20 (2/6d, 10/-, 15/-, 1, 2, 50/-, 15, 20 Perf 10; 5/-, 3, 4, 5 Grey, 10 Perf 11½-12½) overprinted SPECIMEN (15mm, except 2/6dm18½mm), plus 3d and 6d overprinted SPECIMEN (12½mm) and 2½d on 4d and 5d on 6d overprinted SPECIMEN (18½mm). The sheet is signed at the lower right 'C Todd/PMG & ST' (Charles Todd, Postmaster-General and Superintendent of Telegraphs) and dated in manuscript ' '. This sheet was absent from the Ed Williams and Bill McCredie collections. Fine, almost complete strike of crowned oval 'GENERAL POST OFFICE/ADELAIDE' ds across back fold, and with 'SHIP LETTER' and London arrival cds (14OC ) in red on reverse. Few minor faults, including internal tear in letter, however a fine example of this scarce Adelaide marking $220T 71 C 1880 (1 Oct) incoming cover from London to Norwood endorsed 'Per Orient Line via Plymouth', franked d Grey Plate 17 with wing margin lettered 'BE', tied London duplex and with G.P.O.
