19 WHO AM I? English translation by Mary Laughren Who am I? I move around by night and day. I move around with no legs. Just on my belly. When I meet up with people I duck into a goanna's burrow out of fear. Who am I who says ssh, ssh, ssh... I have a smoothe belly. I am a snake. People pick me up when I am just a dead stick. Then a man starts rubbing me hard to and fro on a shield. They crush up dry spinifex and kangaroo droppings and then I burst into flame to make you all warm. Who am I? I am a fiie-stick. I jump very far in all directions and I say juuwu, juuwu... I eat grass and I have long ears. Who am. I? I carry my child in my pouch. I am a kangaroo. 17
20 I am very big. I go around rounding up bullocks and men ride on my back. I say muuwu, muuwu... Who am I? I am a horsfe. Who am I? I go along on the road. Many people sit in my back. I travel with a lot of tyres. Who am I? I am a truck. Who am I? I am long like a snake. People kill me and eat me. I live in a rabbit s burrow. I don't have any legs. Who am I? I am a python. Who am I? First of all I make you very hot. Then I gather up all the rain-clouds and I send a big wind and hail and cold weather too. Then people drink me when they are thirsty. Who am I? I am water. I rise in the east, then I make the people hot. in the west. Who am I? I am the sun. I go down 18
