8 Prez Sez By Betty Pearson To order SDOC t-shirts and sweatshirts, contact Estelle Metz Stay warm or be cool, in style!. September has started with a bang. The three-day Labor Day obedience trial was a great success I think, nice judges, good courses and successful competitors. The weather was cool and even damp good for the dogs I want to thank in particular the co chairs, Penni Adrian and Pam Day, the chief trial steward, Jane Winkler, and the hospitality team, Maggie Gee and Mary Roberts, and Lisa Frankland, Trial Secretary who was sure on top of everything had the books all picked up and entered into the computer She had things posted and sent out to exhibitors Mon PM letting us all know what was reported to AKC for the weekend. They made it all look easy. There seemed to be lots of help and that is needed at any trial. We are grateful for whatever amount of time a person can give. It takes a village to get everything done. More thanks go to those who set up and took down all the equipment and then took it to the club and put it up. That is a lot of work. Next weekend is the first Scent work trial in the state of NM and two weeks later the agility trail at the posse grounds. So, we have a busy month with things going on. In addition to these we are getting new flooring in the training room, this is scheduled to be put in starting the week after the scent work trial. The building will be closed to classes, drills and individual use during the time this is going on and some airing out time afterwards. There seem to be lots of trials going on that our members are traveling to enter and I wish all of you safe trips and the best of fortune as you compete. Something of great importance we have mice... a lot of them. There will be an exterminator coming and we will be working on eliminating them and keeping them from returning. This is something that all members need to participate in. Please be sure that you do not leave food, human or dog, in the training room. Do not leave treats in zip lock, cardboard or uncovered containers. Hard containers that seal are okay if they are left sealed. If your dog does well and you bring a treat to the next class or drill to celebrate that is great but if there is any left take it with you when you go. It is the responsibility of all the members to be sure this is done. If you drop treats on the floor, and we all have, please pick it up. Let s not be leaving anything to invite the mice to feel at home. It is everyone s club and we all need to participate in this. The next meeting will be 28 September, with the nomination committee s nomination of candidates for Hope to see you all there Page 8 Scents & Nonscents
9 New Flooring Update The building will be closed beginning Monday September 10th to prepare for and install the new flooring. Watch the Yahoo group for information on reopening the training room sometime the following week, possibly by Wednesday, September 19th. Thanks, Cathy Dunbar Note From Kim Banales SDOC Fun Match at the Bernalillo Sheriff s Posse grounds was a success. A success because, as has often been the case, those who can, did. Our talented SDOC members stepped up to fill a need and help the many better prepare their dogs for the fall competitions. A huge shout-out to our judges: Janice Anthes, Marcie Jensen, Maggie Gee. Thank you Jeff Robb for filling in to allow judges to run their dogs. Cannot thank the stewards enough. And, don t forget all the folks who chipped in muscle for set-up and tear-down. Has your dog accomplished something new? all the details to the Editor. AND if there s a CH or X anywhere in that title, please include a picture of your dog! The Fun Match was successful only because of your efforts. Thanks a million to all who contributed. Page 9
