Extend the Number of Cats & Dogs--Pass Beverly Berwald <bberwald18@gmail.com> Reply-To: bberwald1 8@gmail. com To : John.White@lacity.org Dear John White: Please attach my comments below to the record re: proposal. Sat, Aug 21, 2010 at 12:14 PM The proposal to extend the limit from 3 to 5 animals per household should be approved for both cats and dogs because it is a humane win-win for the City of Los Angeles and the citizens: Especially now because of economic challenges, the City can use as many costeffective measures as possible to limit its expenses. By allowing for the adoption of more cats and dogs from its shelters, the City will not only save the lives of those same cats and dogs that would be euthanized, but also save man hours and money that is spent on euthanasia. For the citizens, a family of cats and/or dogs is the greatest anti-depressant in the world! The best way to get out of feeling helpless is to help someone who is even more vulnerable: the animals provide us this opportunity. There is no greater emotional and psychological satisfaction than having saved a number of animals. Our four-legged brethren can't bring back lost jobs or increase wages that have been cut, but these "fury little people" can lift our spirits during this crisis; they can encourage us, give us hope and keep us alive. They motivate us to get up in the morning because they depend on us. In giving more animals a chance to enjoy life, we give ourselves a greater reason for being. It is critical at this time that proposal be passed for the City of Los Angeles and the citizens. Sincerely, Beverly Berwald /mail.google.com/a/lacity.org/?u... 1/2

6 10/25/2010 City of Los Angeles Mail - Please increa... Please increase the amount of dogs and cats from two to five per household robin sm ith <robinliveshere@yahoo.com> To: John.White@lacity. org Sat, Aug 21, 2010 at 11:28 AM Dear Mr. White, I'm confused about something. I just read somewhere that the amount of dogs and cats legally allowed per household is two? And that there is a proposal to increase that number to five? Is that correct? If so, I'm shocked. I had no idea that law even existed. Nor did anyone in my neighborhood when I asked around. I've never heard of such a thing. If it is true, my family is writing to ask that the amount be increased because this is the most rediculous thing-it's so absurd, I think there must be a mistake or misunderstanding in what I'm reading. Many people in my neighborhood have more than two dogs?r cats and there is no problem with it. How can the government tell us what to do with our own lives in our homes? It's very do-able to accomodate more than two pets per household. Once I heard on the news that a hoarding situation occurred and they needed foster homes so I fostered temporarily to help out as I feel it's the communities responsibility to pitch in and help. I had four dogs here and it was not a big deal. Please add us to the list to support increasing the number of pets per household. There are dogs being put down every day and people shouldn't be told they aren't allowed to save their lives. This is ethical and moral incompetence. I wonder what our creator would think of this law? I think people should be more worried about following God's laws and it appears there is some /mail.google.com/a/ lacity.org/?u... 1/2
7 10/25/2010 City of Los Angeles Mai l - Please increa... inconsistency if this is truly a law. Shouldn't the government be spending it's time on more important issues like keeping crimina Is off the streets, cutting spending on our over-taxed system, illegal immigration, the economy and other more appropriate concerns? By allowing more pets into a home, it would save taxpayers money on costs to euthanize and dispose of corpses. This is a no-brainer. Why doesn't someone read Nathan Winograd's book? He has it all figured out. That would be time better spent and would fall under the category of more productive activity. I think people are tired of the mismanagement of our tax dollars and this is just another example. Thank you for listening, The Torme' Family asking him to attach what you write to the record.
