1 The Scarlett Letter The Golden Triangle Irish Setter Club, Inc June 2012 The summer is starting off beautifully! We could not have asked for a nicer weekend in New Castle for our shows and the week s activities. Memorial Day Classic Our shows were a huge success. Our basket raffle has continued to surpass the previous year. It s a wonderful to have people looking for us to get their raffle tickets for the baskets! Most know to find us on Saturday at our specialty ring. Thank you to Bob, Skip, Tally and Joan for manning the table ringside on Thursday and Friday. We also thank Justin, Coleen and Laureen s nephew, for his salesman ability and technique selling tickets. What a charming young man! Thank you to the members who donated a basket or two. Our Cooler, chair, gas card raffle was also a success. That was won by Nathanial Lawrence, Deb & Skip s son. Congratulations to him. Thank you to Joan for chairing our raffle package. We thank Tally, Jessica, Cheryl and Shirley for handling the raffles at our ring on Saturday and Sunday. Hospitality, chaired and organized by Laureen with her co-worker, Petey, was the usual two days of great food! Thanks also to John for his grilling of the hotdogs and burgers on Sunday. Thanks to all of the members for their tasty side dishes and desserts, and to those members that helped Laureen and Petey with getting things ready. We would never be able to have the hospitality that we are so well known for, without Laureen and Petey. We are very grateful that they take on this huge task for us. Thank you to Ellen Halloran for handling the Silent Auction, We appreciate her time for the club. We thank Betty Fleming and Kim & Nancy Haupt for their donations for our auction this year. Proceeds benefit our Irish Setter Rescue. Thank you to George and his sister, Bev, for helping with the trophies ringside Saturday and Sunday. Thank you to Sally and Joan for the ring decorations. It was fun to have so many members dogs entered and showing off; Dewey, Drummer, Quincy, Bea, Claire and Journey. THANK YOU TO ALL MEMBERS FOR THE MONTHS OF PREPARATION THAT RESULTS IN A VERY SUCCESSFUL WEEKEND!! Our trophies, hospitality, basket raffle, plus the convenience of available water and electric, and now 5 days of majors, are all part of the package that gives us our success.

Time for a much needed rest for everyone!! from the Rescue side. Tails From the Hills (Interpreted by Ed as I still don t speak English well) I saw a fox on my walk today. I chased it hard but it got away. So I turned and dug myself a hole in hopes I might just catch a mole. I dug and dug. I dug real hard. There was no mole in that deep hole! Ed said let it go. That was so hard. I had to go back to my yard! My fence is tall my fence is sturdy. My feet were sore, my nose was dirty. When I get out, I d catch that fox. He s fast and sly and sorta purty. He should not take my friends away they need to honk and splash and play. That s why I m on patrol most every day This is Bella O Shea reporting once again from Wild and Wonderful West Virginia on the doins here on Goose Greek. Tommy Gray Duck, a Blue Swedish Duck, lost his partner to something during May. Poor Tommy became very distraught and had to be relocated from the neighbor s lake. He followed Ed home from the lake one day and Ed threw him in the protected yard with Gabby goose. She had also lost her partner earlier. This yard is shared by me and my doxy siblings. Doxies don t play nice with fowl, so only I am the only canine allowed in the turnout with them while Pam and Ed supervise. Tommy Gray duck doesn t play nice either! I am afraid of Tommy Gray Duck! He chases me. I have to hide behind Ed to fend him off Well Pam s chop job on my coat is finally growing out some. Thank you Deb and Joan for your grooming advice. Now my coat is so full of those little round plant things that running a comb through my fur is very difficult. Ouch! I guess it s either to be house and yard bound or endure a painful grooming every other day. I choose the grooming! I must go on patrol you know. There could be intruders skulking around just waiting to catch me off guard. It is probably the same sly fox that killed our pet goose, Gus or a bad person. I ll keep them on the run! I am head of security here on Goose Creek and I take my job seriously. Ed took me to the neighbors in May to see the new Golden Retriever puppy they brought into their family. I sniffed at it and decided it was too young and too small to play with at this time. It s only eight weeks old. I miss Honey, their dog that went away..she was old and very sick. Last time I visited her she would not play. She is the one who taught me about Hill Billy dog wrestling. Ed says she is in Puppy Heaven. I ll just have to wait a bit for Sandy to get big enough to play with. I ll teach her all the moves that Honey taught me.. I m going to learn to swim this year. I spent some time last summer in the neighbors lake with lifeguard Ed but never perfected my breaststroke. I ll be four years old in June I think. I don t really know my birthday as I am adopted. I don t really care that the first people who had me didn t want me because Ed and Pam do. I go everywhere with Pam and Ed. Everywhere! When they go for the door, I am the first there. Pam takes the Mouse into Wal Mart but not me. The greeter said that only service animals were allowed in. Since Mouse is only twelve pounds and is carried, so Ed jumps in and tells the greeter that YES Mouse is a service dog! She ensures Pam s
5 emotional health. Hee, hee, hee. At that, Ed and Pam enter the store leaving me behind to guard the truck. I don t think that I could pass for a service dog just yet as I am much too boisterous. Not just yet, maybe in a few years. Pam took me one fine May morning to the Barn. I got to observe Hannibal the Cornish rooster whip on Pam for a change the door jammed while she was in the pen changing the water bucket for fresh water.. Anyway, I was rooted to the spot and got a good view of wings, feet and those spurs on his legs. Pam was saying!@#$% rooster. I don t know what she meant by the words coming out of her mouth, and it did not improve the situation because he came at her full force. Collecting hen eggs can be painful. After our eventful time in the barn, Pam and I walked up the hill to the house I looked for Ed but He did not come out of the house. I sat down and gave Pam a howdy do paw shake for a walk/run. Ed says I have to do tricks in order to get treats. After all I have been put in charge of getting Pam in shape. It s a daunting task! Believe it or not Pam actually ran with me for a short distance. She cannot run for long due to her left leg was injured in a motorcycle accident when she was young and dumb. I don t know the whole story, I just heard Pam say that one day. She sort of has a limp but walking is good for her and a fast walk even better. I love Pam a big whole bunch lot and I want to keep her a long time. She s the bestest Mistress I know. My belly is all queasy some evenings I always eat stuff that I shouldn t. I need the nasty stuff in my mouth for worms.. I don t eat worms.. no way yuck I usually hide out for awhile and hope Ed forgets to give me that nasty stuff. Poo. Yuck bleck nasty I would rather eat a meadow muffin any day I will have to cut this report a bit short as I am getting ready to go on my second trail ride with Ed and Pam. I am lying here in the floor behind Ed begging and pleading with him to wrap it up for another month. I have my whine down pat. I sound so pathetic. It usually motivates Ed to get on the move. I am out of here till next month! Lots of Barks, licks, and Tail wags from Bella down on the Farm "You'll miss the best things if you keep your eyes shut." Dr. Seuss Life with a Therapy Dog Cassie I have enclosed pictures of Cassie getting her "free" National Service Dog Eye Exam from Pittsburgh Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Center during the ACVO/Merial National Service Dog Eye Exam May event. Each year in May, service and therapy dogs are given free eye exams by participating ophthalmogists. Cassie has an eye birth defect PHPV/PHTVL. These exams allow us to keep a watch on her condition. At her latest exam Dr. Bagley found Cassie developed a cataract. If you have a therapy or service dog take advantage of these wonderful exams each year during the month of May! :)
