2 COAT CONDITION STANDARD VS. SOLID ALBINO/ DARK EYED WHITE BLACK MITT/ BLACK ROAN MITT BLACK SABLE BLAZE/ MUTT/ PANDA CHAMPAGNE CHOCOLATE MITT PASSPORT REQUIRED PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED For all colors and patterns, coat condition requirements are the same. The coat of a ferret should be shiny, smooth and soft to the touch. There is no preference between the summer (short) or the winter (long) coat. Both should be soft, supple and shiny, showing good health. A summer coat is much shorter than a winter coat and won t feel as soft and supple. There is no penalty for summer coats unless they are sparse, dry, brittle or overly coarse. Staining, dirt, excessive yellow or orange tones, matting or sparseness of the hair is undesirable. Excessive eye staining is undesirable. Marks and/or missing fur from collars, harnesses or rough play are undesirable. Standard: The body will appear lighter in color and the points (legs and tail) are easily discernable. Body color should match front to back. Masks are the full bandit style mask. Color concentration is not as heavy as in the solid pattern. Preferred color concentration on guard hairs is an even distribution from side to side and front to back. Heavier concentrations of color on the back are acceptable. Solid: Gives the appearance of solid color concentration from head to tail, with even color distribution all around the body. Masks are T bar (excluding Albino and Dark-Eyed White, where no mask is present). Albino: Pure white coat, pink to red eyes, no mask, pink nose. Cream or buff colored undercoats and/or guard hairs are acceptable. Any other color anywhere on the ferret or nose color other than pink is unacceptable. Dark-Eyed White: Pure white coat, ruby to black eyes, no mask, pink nose. 0-10% any color/90-100% roaning (white guard hairs) with 0% any color, 100% roaning preferred. Cream colored undercoat and/or guard hairs are acceptable. Dark hairs in excess of approximately 10%, any type of mask, black nose, yellow undercoat or guard hairs is unacceptable. Light silvers should be entered in Dark-Eyed White. Black Mitt: Very little white around face, standard to t-bar mask, solid black nose, legs and tail black with black eyes. White bib and four white feet. Cool color palette as opposed to warm. Should have well defined and even mitts. 100% black with 0% roaning % black with 0-10% roaning is acceptable. Black Roan Mitt: Black guard hairs with white roaning throughout the coat. Should be lighter than a black mitt, but darker than a roan. 75% black guard hairs with 25% roaning. Should have mitts, but the lighter the body color the more the mitts go to stockings. There is no penalty for lack of definition. The overall color should appear silver or grey % black guard hairs with 10-40% roaning is acceptable. patches, etc. should be considered unacceptable. Blackish brown with black glossy shine guard hairs, white to buff undercoat, very little white around face, solid black nose, black eyes. Cool color palette as opposed to warm. Cream undercoat, blackish brown to heavily mottled blackish brown nose is acceptable. White or brown hairs, golden undercoat, brown or pink nose or lightly mottled nose is unacceptable. The following pattern classes are judged based on the pattern, not the color of the ferret. Any of these patterns can be found in any of the standard colors. Blaze: Must have blaze over top of head. Wide white stripe on head, can start at nose or can have a full white face with white stripe starting between ears and continuing down back of head and neck to shoulders, stripe should be a minimum of ½ inch across, four white feet (either mitts or white toes), ruby to brown eyes, pink nose. Crooked or broken blaze, bib, knee patches, speckled belly, white tip on tail or roaning, eye patches are acceptable. Should have various random dots, spots or uneven roaning. Mismatched points, mask, body color. Bonus points for uneven patterning of color-roaning from waist down, etc. Body color should be uneven. Panda: Full white head to shoulders with dark coloration across shoulders and across hips, burgundy eyes, pink nose, full mitts. Body coloration is concentrated on the shoulder and hips, usually the belly is fully white or speckled. Some color on head such as eye patches or eye rings, or a small patch of color in front of the ears, knee patches, white tip on tail, white or speckled belies and roaning are acceptable. Full mask, V-mask or excessive roaning is unacceptable. patches, etc. should be considered unacceptable. Diluted chocolate, tan, color of champagne, white to buff undercoat, ruby to burgundy eyes or brown eyes, beige to pink nose, bar mask. Reddish tint to guard hairs, cream undercoat, light brown T on nose, V-shaped mask are acceptable. No mask, eye rings, yellow undercoat, black eyes or dark nose are unacceptable. This color most often shows with a V-mask. While the bar mask is preferred for a standard pattern, a V-mask is acceptable. This color also shows with a heavier concentration of color along the back, which, while not preferred, is acceptable unless mixed in the darker concentration of guard hairs are other darker colors. patches, etc. should be considered unacceptable. Warm milk chocolate brown guard hairs, white to buff undercoat, brown eyes, beige, light brown T, brick colored nose or pink nose. Slightly golden undercoat, burgundy eyes, light brown freckled nose are acceptable. Yellow undercoat, V-mask, black or sable nose are unacceptable. Back mitts should be even with each other. Bonus for all four mitts even to each other. There should be a true definition or color break from mitt to points in solids and standards. Roans do not have to have the level of color delineation as solids or standards. Mitts should be symmetrical, extending only to the wrist/ankle. Slight spotting or slanting, particularly in roans are acceptable. Stockings, angled mitts, color spots on mitts, unclear definition from mitt to point, toe tips, mismatched mitts in front or in back are unacceptable. Open to all privately bred ferrets (intact or late spay/neuter) who are at least 25% foreign bloodlines. Passport Required is judged predominantly on structure along with health and maintenance. Open to all ferrets with a visible physical deficiency or handicap (obvious blindness, missing limb, short tail (less than 2 inches), extremely kinked tail, etc.). Physically Challenged is judged on structure, health and maintenance and disposition, with emphasis on health and maintenance and disposition, which is 60% of score.

Super Senior is judged on structure, health and maintenance and disposition, with emphasis on health and maintenance and disposition, which is 60% of score. For entry into this class, your ferret must have been awarded a blue ribbon (1 st place) in a Title Bearing Ring or Premier Class, Best in Class or Best in Opposite at any AFA sanctioned ferret show during 2005 through Invitational is judged on the same requirements as the Title Bearing Rings. As of 2004, no ferret is permitted to show in the Breeder, Adolescent or Alter Title Classes unless the ferret s sire and dam is listed, to include the proper prefix. Any ferret bred by a breeder that is banned from showing by the AFA cannot be shown in any AFA sanctioned show. Any ferret whose sire or dam was bred by a breeder that is banned from showing by the AFA, yet who was not bred by a banned breeder, can only be shown once they have been spayed or neutered. Any misrepresentation or omission of data pertaining to the breeder of a ferret or the breeder of a ferret s sire or dam is grounds for the individual(s) responsible for the offense to be banned. For a list of the banned breeders, please contact the AFA at afa@ferret.org. All ferrets entered in the show hall, including those offered for sale must be between 16 weeks and 6 ½ years old. All ferrets entered in and/or for sale at the show must have been vaccinated for Canine Distemper and Rabies between the dates of October 14th, September 16th, 2006 with USDA approved ferret vaccines. At this time the only USDA approved ferret vaccinations are FERVAC-D and PUREVAX FERRET for canine distemper and IMRAB-3 for rabies. ACCEPTABLE PROOF OF VACCINATION: For canine distemper vaccinations For exhibitors who vaccinate their ferrets must provide the label from the bottle for each ferret entering the show hall; For veterinarian vaccinated ferrets the vaccination record must state the USDA approved vaccine was used (listing FERRET DISTEMPER only is NOT ACCEPTABLE). For rabies vaccination the veterinary certificate must state the name of the vaccine or the manufacturer (listing FERRET RABIES only is NOT ACCEPTABLE). Please provide your original documentation at check-in for entry into the show hall. AFA staff will be checking the vaccination records for each ferret entering the show hall. This will be a NON-VETTED show, you are responsible for the health of your ferret, so out of consideration for all other attendees and their ferrets, PLEASE DO NOT BRING A SICK FERRET TO THE SHOW. Check in will be from 8:00 AM until 9:30 AM on Saturday, September 30th, NO ONE may enter the show hall prior to this time. All ferrets entering the show hall must provide proof of negative ADV (Aleutian s Disease Virus) testing between the dates of March 23rd, 2006 September 23rd, Testing must be by the Blue Cross CEP test (blood ONLY) or the Avecon ELISA test (saliva ONLY) and results must be: 1) on tester s original result s letterhead; 2) testing date must be on the letter and within the stated period; 3) ferret names must be on the testing result s letter (names must match show entry). Avecon POCT instant tests are NOT ACCEPTABLE. A letter from your vet is NOT ACCEPTABLE. Faxes or copies are NOT ACCEPTABLE. Please note that United is no longer doing ADV testing. You will be required to sign a statement at check in to the effect that: No ferret that I am bringing with me into the show hall today has ever had a definitive positive test result on the Blue Cross CEP (blood), United CEP (blood) or Avecon ELISA test (saliva) (POCT and ELISA blood test are not acceptable). If in the past 4 months a ferret from my household (shelter/ferretry/facility) has had a definitive positive test result on the Blue Cross CEP or Avecon ELISA saliva test (POCT & ELISA blood tests are not acceptable), I understand that all ferrets in the same household (shelter/ferretry/facility) are considered as being exposed. I also understand that I cannot show or bring any ferrets from said household into the show hall today, regardless of their testing status. I also understand that just because all ferrets in the show hall today have been tested for ADV within the six months prior to the show, that this is not a guarantee of safety. I understand that the test is only as good as the day it was taken and I still need to practice SAFE FERRET habits at all times.
