4 JUNIOR SHOWMANSHIP COMPETITION NOVICE CLASS: For boys and girls who are at least 9 years old and under 18 years old on the day of the show and who at the time entries close have not won three (3) first place awards, with competition present, in a Novice Class. A first place in Novice without competition leading to a Best Junior award with competition would count as one win towards moving to Open at a licensed or member show. OPEN CLASS: For boys and girls who are at least 9 years old and under 18 years old on the day of the show, and who have won three first place awards in a Novice Class or if a win in Novice leads to a Best Junior with competition present it will count as one win towards moving to Open in a licensed or member show. Juniors which according to their records have completed the requirements to compete in the Open class but whose status is unconfirmed by the American Kennel Club are limited to competing in the Open Class for a period of 90 days from the date of the show where the Junior completed the requirements according to their records. MASTER CLASS: This class will be for boys and girls who are at least 9 years old and under 18 years on the day of the show, and who have 10 Best Junior wins with competition. The calendar for this class will be consistent with the eligibility dates for the AKC National Championship. All Juniors meeting the criteria for this class are required to enter the Master Class and may change their entry the day of the show if entries have already closed. Once the eligibility time frame for that year has passed all participants return to the Open Class to compete for the following year. NOVICE AND OPEN CLASS DIVIDED: Junior-9 years old and under 12 years old on the day of the show; Intermediate-12 years old and under 15 years old on the day of the show; Senior-15 years old and under 18 years old on the day of the show. NOTICE: Junior Handlers must include their AKC JUNIOR HANDLER NUMBER on each entry. You may obtain your junior identification number by calling the AKC, Judges Education Department, BE SURE ALL INFORMATION for Junior Showmanship Classes is entered on front and back of entry form. NOTE: SUBSTITUTION OF DOG IN JUNIOR SHOWMANSHIP AT THE SHOW(S): There will be an Administration Fee of $5.00 charged for any substitution of dog in Junior Showmanship at each show. In addition, if the dog originally entered in Jr. Showmanship was an additional entry, and the dog being substituted is not otherwise entered in the show, the Junior Showmanship Only fee applies. USE OF RAMPS SPORTING BREEDS A judge requesting the use of a ramp must give notice to the show superintendent/show secretary prior to judging. AKC approval is not required. The entire entry in a breed is to be examined in the same manner (ground, table, or ramp). At the discretion of the judge, the following breeds may be judged on the ground or on a ramp through all levels of competition including Group and Best in Show judging: Lagotto Romagnolo, Clumber Spaniels, English Springer Spaniels, Field Spaniels, Welsh Springer Spaniels, At the discretion of the judge through all levels of competition including Group and Best in Show judging, the following breed may be judged on the ground, a ramp, or on a table: Boykin Spaniels. The following breed must be judged on a ramp through all levels of conformation competition: Sussex Spaniels. This extends to all conformation competition at AKC conformation dog shows and any AKC event where a conformation title may be earned. This policy includes Group, Junior Showmanship, the 4 6 Month Beginner Puppy Competition, the AKC National Owner-Handled Series (NOHS), and all other special attractions that offer Group and BIS competitions. Ramps can be used in emergency situations to judge any breed. In an emergency situation, where use of a ramp is not indicated in the premium list, an exhibitor has the option of withdrawing their entry and receiving a refund. 6 DIRECTIONS TO THE WASHINGTON STATE FAIR EVENTS CENTER MERIDIAN ST. FIFE EXIT 137 N I TACOMA PUYALLUP VALLEY AVE. WA 512 OFF RAMP ROUTES TO FAIRGROUNDS WASH. STATE FAIR EVENTS CENTER 512 FROM OLYMPIA AND THE SOUTH: Take I-5 North to Hwy. 512, Exit 127. Follow Hwy. 512 east for 10 miles to the Meridian St., S. Exit. Turn left under the freeway. Fairgrounds are on the left. FROM SEATTLE AND THE NORTH: Take I-5 South to the Puyallup Exit #142B in Federal Way. As exiting, stay in the left lane. Turn right at the traffic light at the end of the exit ramp, then turn left at the first traffic light onto Hwy Travel approximately eight miles into the Puyallup Valley (Hwy. 161 becomes Meridian St. in Puyallup). Continue south through town. The Fairgrounds will be on your right at 9th Ave. S.W. FROM BELLEVUE AND THE EASTSIDE: Take I-90 to I-405 South. Take Exit 2 to Hwy. 167 toward Kent/Auburn. Travel South on Hwy. 167 for approximately 20.2 miles to Hwy. 161 South/Hwy. 512 W. Travel 2.3 miles to the second exit, Meridian St. S. At the light at the end of the exit turn right. Fairgrounds are on the left. FROM SEATAC AIRPORT: Option 1: Depart airport, taking exit to I-5 and I-405. Follow signs to I-405 Northbound toward Renton and Bellevue. Take Exit 2, Hwy. 167 South toward Kent/Auburn. Travel south on Hwy. 167 for 20.2 miles to 161 South/512 West. Follow Hwy. 512 West to Puyallup and Olympia, traveling 2.3 miles. Take the second exit, Meridian Street South. Turn right at the light at the end of the exit. The fairgrounds are on the left, on the corner of Ninth and Meridian (Cattin s Restaurant is on the corner). Option 2: Take I-5 south to the Puyallup Exit #142B in Federal Way. As exiting, stay in the left lane. Turn right at the traffic light at the end of the exit ramp, then turn left at the first traffic light onto Hwy 161. Travel approximately eight miles into Puyallup Valley. (Hwy. 161 becomes Meridian Street in Puyallup). Continue south through town. The Fairgrounds are on the corner of Meridian and 9th Ave. S.W. 8 RESERVED GROOMING RULES Reservations must be submitted on this form and sent in by mail no later than JANUARY 6, Spaces will be assigned in the order received. Request to groom together must be sent in thesame envelope. Limited to Four spaces per person. NSF will be charged a fee of $25. No refundsafter JANUARY 6, All spaces have electricity. EVERYONE MUST FOLLOW THESE IMPORTANT NEW RULES! Minimum 14 gauge extension cords shall be used to extend electrical service. Extension cords shall be plugged directly into an electrical outlet and shall, except for approved multi-plug extension cords, serve only one portable appliance. The ampacity of the extension cords shall not be less than the rated capacity of the portable appliance supplied by the cord. Any cord across an aisle, MUST be taped down with duct tape. NO EXERCISE PENS allowed in any building other than the Bubble (Centennial Bldg) and those MUST have underlayment and be kept clean at all times. Spaces are approximately 10x10 at $75.00 for Friday through Monday. There is no reduction in fee for fewer days. There will be a limited amount of Day of Show grooming space with power. All equipment MUST be removed at the end of the day or will be confiscated. Acknowledgement will be ED ONLY, so please be sure and put your address (legibly written) on the form. Buildings will be available for setup on Friday, January 13th at 11:00AM. PLEASE do not try to get in before this time. 11 ATTENTION SHOW GROUND RULES Gray water cannot be dumped or dripped on the ground. The appropriate sewer hookup or dump station should be used for depositing all gray (and black) water. Security will enforce the no dumping rule. There is a $ fine for all/any infractions of this policy. An EMT will be on Show Grounds Each Day THE GROUNDS WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR SET-UP OF GROOMING EQUIPMENT FROM 11:00AM until 7:00 PM on Friday, January 13. CONTROL OF THE GROOMING AND CRATING AREAS WILL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE GROUNDS CHAIRMAN. No roping off or saving of grooming areas. Show Committee reserves the right to rearrange crates etc., in the non-reserved grooming area in order to make more room. Grooming equipment left in day grooming area after Best in Show will be confiscated. Grooming and Crating area aisles must remain open at all times. No Grooming or exercise pens, Cocker pens, Toy pens or canopies are allowed in the Show Buildings. Crates are only allowed in the show building during showing of your breed and must be removed immediately after. Violators will be fined $25.00 per occurrence. Grounds will be open at 6:00 AM Sat. through Mon., and close two (2) hours after Best in Show each day. All buildings must be vacated two hours after Best in Show on Monday. Reserved Overnight Parking available until 10:00 AM on Tuesday. TNo parking on the Fairgrounds. Violators will be towed at the owners risk and expense. Loss or Damage - The Show Committee will use due care and diligence for the welfare of dogs and exhibitors, but will not be responsible for, or assume any liability in the event of any accident or misfortune, to either dogs or exhibitors participating in these Shows. The welfare of an Exhibitor s child is assumed to be the responsibility of the Exhibitor/Parent. It is distinctly understood that exhibitors will exercise control and restraint over their children on the day of the shows OR THE EXHIBITOR/PARENT WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE THE SHOW PREMISES. The only fresh water available on the grounds will be in the restrooms. Exhibitors are responsible for water required for safety and comfort of their dogs. No bathing of dogs on the show grounds. Exhibitors and Handlers will be held responsible for clean conditions in and around their grooming area, parking area, and hotel room. Exhibitors will be responsible for cleaning up after their dogs. X-pens will be provided outside. Exhibitors and handlers must pick up fecal matter deposited by their dogs on the grounds, streets, sidewalks and parking lots. Speed limit within the Fairgrounds is 5MPH. Anyone exceeding this speed limit will be subject to an Event Show Hearing and/or escorted off the grounds immediately. If it is necessary to rescue a dog from a parked vehicle on the show grounds or in the parking areas, the club will not be responsible or liable for any damage to the vehicle involved. Animals left in vehicles will be monitored by County Control Officers and Club Members. If animals are in distress due to heat or any other circumstances, the vehicle will be forcibly entered, the animal recovered and the owner cited. ALL ELECTRICAL DEVICES WHICH CREATE MULTIPLE OUTLETS MUST BE UL APPROVED AND INCORPORATE A SEPARATE CIRCUIT BREAKER WITHIN THE DEVICE. All electrical cords on floor must be taped. No Smoking will be allowed or tolerated in any building on the Show Site. Offenders of the rule shall be subject to a fine not to exceed $50.00, and in the event of continued abuse, shall be asked to leave the show premises. TROPHIES Trophies and prizes will be awarded in the judging rings to the person exhibiting the dog, who will be considered to be the owner or agent of the owner. All claims for trophies and other prizes must be made in the judging ring before the completion of the judging of the breed, and the Show Chairmen advised at once in the event of any discrepancy. No Award will be mailed. The Clubs reserve the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value. THESE RULES WILL BE ENFORCED BY THE SHOW COMMITTEE. 15 NOTICE TO EXHIBITORS ALL EVENTS The American Kennel Club Rules and Regulations will govern this Show and Exhibitors must make themselves familiar with the agreement of the American Kennel Club, referred to on the reverse side of the entry blanks that accompany this Show Premium List. The American Kennel Club will collect: a $3.00 Event Service Fee and $.50 Recording Fee where applicable for the first entry of a dog, plus a $3.00 service fee for each additional entry of the same dog in the regular and non-regular recordable single-entry classes, in all AKC licensed and member club events. At every licensed or member club rally trial, a recording fee of $3.50 is required for the first entry of each dog and a recording fee of $3.00 is required for each additional entry of the same dog. The event-giving club shall assume the responsibility of collecting all Event Service Fees for The American Kennel Club. These event service and recording fees shall be forwarded to The American Kennel Club along with all other required event results within seven (7) days of the close of the event. No Entry will be accepted which specifies any condition as to its acceptance. Telegraph, and unsigned entries cannot be accepted and will be returned. Entries not on Official AKC Entry Forms and Photocopies of Entry Forms without Agreement and Rules on reverse side are NOT ACCEPTABLE. If a female is withdrawn from competition because it came into season and the Superintendent is notified no later than one half hour prior to the start of the first class in the trial, the club is required to refund the entry fee. The club may retain a processing fee and must publish this information in the premium. Clubs may determine the documentation, if any that is required to confirm the female is in season. This shall be stated in the premium. Note: No fee is paid to the AKC for females in season who are withdrawn. FAX ENTRIES Fax entries will be accepted up to closing time.
