We are very pleased to be working together with our fellow ECGA members as a consignor. We have been breeding Gelbvieh s for 20+ years and we have aimed at producing easy calving and easy to grow out cattle. We have used Artificial Insemination to access the top genetics in the Gelbvieh breed as well as buying top Gelbvieh bulls like ARN SIR ARNOLD B921 who is in the top 25% of the breed for 9 different traits. As you can see from our sale heifers we have fulfilled our ambitions and have a fine offering of females from which you can choose. These heifers have been synchronized so that they were all bred on June 12 to their A.I service sire. After a few days they were put out with our heifer bull VV NICODEMUS, whose EPD s can be viewed under our Reference Sires. He is a paternal grandson of RED WRAP a bull used in the DAVIDSON Gelbvieh Program! We have been happy with the progeny off of our other walking bull SBR PABST HIGH ROLLER purchased at the late John Douma and Rob Savage s Final Dispersal Sale. Some Sale Heifers are sired by him. 14 The Whalen Family started O Faelan Farms with a herd of Gelbvieh's in 2003 with the purchase of seed stock from Triple M Ranch in Saskatchewan, many of whom are still part of the herd. Our bulls have been from Davidson Gelbvieh, Carroll Creek Cattle Co and AI sires. We have added cattle from Alberta and around the Maritimes and retained our heifers to the point where we now run approximately 60 purebred Black, Gold, and Red Gelbvieh's. Since that time we have added a purebred black and red angus herd so that this year we should calve out approximately 160 head. We are now focused on developing all three branches of the herd, purebred Gelbvieh, purebred Angus, and Balancers. We do extensive AI, last year synchronizing and breeding 65, with plans to increase that number this year. As one of the few Gelbvieh producers in the Maritimes, we are trying to establish Gelbvieh & Balancers in the area. These are working girls and boys who can be used on the Farm to the Show-ring. The Hurst family recently relocated their farm in 2010 to West Grey, just minutes from the beautiful shorelines of Georgian Bay. We are in the heart of the cattle counties of Grey- Bruce. While we are rebuilding of our Registered Gelbvieh herd, we have partnered with some Gelbvieh Breeders in Western Canada and look forward to bringing out some new Gelbvieh Genetics.
