CALLAHAN COUNTY JUNIOR LIVESTOCK ASSOCIATION OFFICERS President Jason Gray Vice President Chad Gray Secretary Karen Johnston Treasurer Jan Windham PREMIUM AUCTION SALE RULES The Callahan County Junior Livestock Show Sale is a premium only sale. Exhibitors will retain ownership of the animal and will be eligible to show at a later date. 1. An exhibitor will be allowed to sell one eligible animal. 2. Number of animals to be sold will be set by directors each year prior to the sale. 3. Animals may move up in class but not from one class to another. If there are not 4 animals eligible for sale in class, only animals eligible in that class will be sold. Animals from other classes will not be used to make up the difference. 4. Exhibitor must be present to sell animal in premium sale. Exhibitor not present must have approval of a committee consisting of advisors and Board excluding conflicting advisors in order for the exhibitor to sell. 5. Exhibitors are responsible for animals until they are loaded into designated areas as specified by superintendent. 6. Exhibitors will have 30 minutes after the judge is completed on their division to decide which animal will sell in the premium sale. 7. In the event of the livestock show being rescheduled to a different time, we will allow an exhibitor who cannot be present on Saturday for the premium sale due to a conflict of scheduling to have another exhibitor take their animal through the premium sale. The exhibitor must inform officials in writing of his/her scheduling conflict within 72 hours of notification of the livestock show being rescheduled. Animals with natural horns or disbudded or dehorned may be shown. The fitting of hair of animals will be left up to the discretion of the exhibitor. Classes are available for percentage Boer Does & Fullblood females. Classes will be divided as equally as possible according to age at the discretion of the department superintendent. BEEF CATTLE Market Steers No Max 2. Steers must be validated by July 1 and must have official Texas Ear Tag in place. Any steer eligible to show in any regional or major show in the State of Texas is eligible for the Callahan County Junior Livestock Show. No recertified steers will be eligible for county show if any permanent teeth and certified only one time. 3. Heifers eligible to show in major shows (Junior Class) according to age brackets are eligible to show in Callahan County Show. Heifers without registration papers will be classified by classifier to be put into respective categories i.e. American Cross, English, or Exotic. 4. Beef heifers will be divided as equally as possible according to age at the discretion of the department superintendent. 5. No grooming chutes or equipment will be allowed in the middle aisle of the barn. This rule will be STRICTLY enforced by the superintendent. 6. Grooming will be adhered to No change of the major color pattern of the animal by painting or dyeing will be allowed. Any grooming material that allows color to come off from any animal will not be allowed at the show. 7. Classification Guidelines for Beef Cattle: American Cross - Steers and Heifers in this division must be purebred or crossbred Beefmaster, Brahman, Brangus, Red Brangus, Santa Gertrudis, Brahmousin or Simbrah and show predominate breed

Excessive dark or black pigment located anywhere on the body. Larger dark colored patches of skin or obvious markings of a belt on the fore front of the animal. 5. Upright ears. Hampshire - Black in color with a white belt over the fore front of the animal s body. 1. Any color hair other than black or white. (Red, Sandy, etc.) 2. Lack of breed character. (Heavily drooped ears. round on end.) 3. White between the eyes and ears on head. (Blaze face.) Landrace - White in Color 1. Any natural color hair other than white. 2. More that a total of three spots on skin pigmentation. 3. Any spot of skin pigmentation exceeding the size of a quarter. 4. Upright ears. Poland China - Traditionally black with six white points (face, feet and switch of tail) and down ears. Splashes of white hair on the body is permitted. 1. Lack of breed character. (Erect ears, belt formation, etc.) 2. Red or sandy hair and/or pigmentation. Spotted - Black and White Color 1. Must not have brown or sandy coloration of any kind on the body. 2. Solid black from ears forward. 3. Must not have the combination of black leg and black foot. 4. Very erect ears.
4 4. Rules and regulations of the Texas Animal Health Commission must be adhered to by exhibitors. Sick or diseased animals will not be accepted in the show. 5. General Superintendent or superintendents of each department will have the right to reject an animal unfit for showing. 6. For any animal to be eligible to show in the Callahan County Show, the animal(s) must meet the following criteria: *Be ordered and purchased through a Callahan County Livestock Show Official (boilers). *Be approved by a Callahan County AST/CEA (rabbits) *Be State or county validated at the pre-set Callahan County Livestock Show validation date or make-up date for each specific species, goats, lambs, pigs, and steers. *Any animal not meeting the above criteria not be allowed to show at the Callahan Livestock Show. 7. All projects, with the exception of broilers, swine, goats and lambs, must be certified prior to November 1 of each year through the local Vo-Ag Instructors or County Extension Agent to be eligible to show. Entry certification shall be sent to The County Extension Agent. Broilers, swine, and rabbits must be certified by December 10 of each year. 8. Animals will remain on exhibit after weighting in unless dismissed by department superintendent. All pens and stalls are on a first come first serve basis. No locking gates on any pens at any time. 9. Lambs, steer, goats, and hogs will be classified by a classifier as determined by show management. All decisions on class or breed made by the classifier will be done so before the animal leaves the classifying pen/area. Classifier s decision is FINAL. 10. Animals classified out because of breed characteristics, may be moved to class deemed appropriate by judge or classifier. The judge and/or classifier s decision will be FINAL. 11. Protest of any nature shall be put in writing accompanied by a $25.00 fee. Protest to be decided by a committee consiting of advisors & the board excluding the conflicting advisor. The $25.00 fee will be returned if protest is upheld. 12. Lamb, steer, goat, and hog exhibitors will be allowed to show up to three (3) breeding animals per class, but premium money will be paid on two (2) animals per class. 13. An exhibitor may receive as many showmanship awards as he or she is awarded. will be chosen and announced by the judge immediately following the market show. This will allow the judge to give good or bad points to exhibitors. Exhibitor must show their own animal in the showmanship class. 14. Each breed division in market classes (barrows, lambs, goats, and steers) will be divided into weight groups as equally as possible by numbers; 1 class if 4 or less, 2 classes if 5-15, 3 classes if 13-33, 4 classes if 34-44, 5 classes if 45-55, and 6 classes if 56 or more. There will be no more than 7 steers per class. Superintendents and advisors are allowed to modify class breaks and or numbers of classes. 15. No reweigh permitted on animals who are under minimum or over maximum. 16. No washing of any animal on showgrounds except in designated areas. 17. Number of eligible sale animals will be presented by the directors prior to the show. 18. Non-premium lambs, goats, and pigs will be located out or placed in separate pens prior to the sale. 19. All exhibitors will be under the control and direction of the management, but the Association will in no case be responsible for any loss, injury, or damage which may occur. Each exhibitor will be solely responsible for any consequential or other loss, injury or damage done to, or occasioned by, or as rising from, any animal or article exhibited by him, and for its description as given in the catalog. He shall indemnify the Association against all legal or other proceedings in regard thereto, as well as damage or injury to any other person or property caused by the exhibitor or any of the animals exhibited by him, or arising out of, or in any way connected with such exhibitions or any of the animals so exhibited. 20. The Callahan County Junior Livestock Show Association will abide by state guidelines on no pass/no play on eligibility of participants in the annual show. An ineligible student s project may not be shown by another family member or other eligible junior exhibitors 21. Exhibitor must be present to show animal in the Callahan County Livestock Show. Exhibitors not present must have prior approval by a committee consisting of advisors, county agent excluding conflicting advisors or county agent. Other UIL or school activities below the state level will not be an excused absence. 22. No animal can move from one class to the other after the show starts. 23. Each exhibitor can only show in one county show. 24. The exhibitor at validation must declare which organization or chapter under which they will be showing at the county show and must abide by and particiapate in that chapter organization and sales committee fund raisers or functions to be eligible to sale. 25. All county sheep and goat entries must be ear tagged and tattooed with the Callahan County ID number, same as the validated lambs and goats. 26. No professional fitting allowed at the county show. Animals can only be fitted by the student, students parents or family member, ag teacher, county agent or adult leader who lives in the county. Shavings are the only bedding allowed in the barn. 27. No heat lamps to be used in the Show barn for any animal. 28. To allow all exhibitors to participate in the showmanship for juniors and seniors. 29. There would be no saving of livestock pens. It would be first come first served. The pig pens will be marked as to the number of pigs per pen and inforced by the swine superintendent.
5 RABBITS AND POULTRY Broiler (Pen of 3) Fryer Rabbits No Min-No Max Pounds 2. Breeding and fryer rabbits classes may have unlimited number of entries per exhibitor. SWINE Breeding Gilts Market Swine No Min-No Max Pounds 2. All swine (market and breeding) must be validated prior to December 1 by validation committee, to be eligible to show in County Show. 3. Gilts are eligible to show in the market class but cannot be shown in both market and breeding classes. 4. Breeding swine will be divided at discretion of superintendent. 5. Grooming will be adhered to No oil, paint, powder or other dressing will be permitted on swine. Only water will be allowed. No clipping of hogs will be allowed on the premises. 6. Classification Guidelines for Hogs: Berkshire - The general color shall be black with white points, appearing on nose, feet and tall. (Any of these may be missing or an occasional splash of white may appear on the body.) 1. Any color present on the animal other than white or black. 2. Rounded and heavily drooped ears. 3. Formation of a belt encompassing 1/3 of the front part of the body. Chester White - White in Color ENTRY FEES Steers $15.00 Beef Heifer $7.00 Market Lambs $10.00 Market Swine $10.00 Breeding Gilts $5.00 Broilers $5.00/pen Rabbits $2.00/head Pen of Fryers $5.00/pen Boer Goats $5.00 Meat Goats $10.00 Lambs, Swine, Goats, and Broilers that make sale will be posted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday. This list will not be complete because some exhibitors will be showing both lambs or pigs and steers and will not know which animal will be sold until after the steer show. Therefore, some lower placing animals could move up into the sale slots right after the steer show. So, be sure and check final listing to be posted prior to sale. GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS GENERAL RULES 1. Entrants must be at least 8 years of age or in the 2nd grade or no more than 18 on August 31 of the coming year. They must be enrolled in public or private elementary or secondary schools in Callahan County or surrounding counties at the time of the County Livestock Show. Entrants must be members in good standing of local FFA Chapter or Callahan County 4-H Clubs. Projects must be fed under the supervision of Vo-Ag Instructors or Callahan County Extension Agent. 2. Exhibitors must be a dues paying member of FFA or 4H on or before November 1 of the school year in which they are showing. 3. Entry must be the bonafide property of the exhibitor and will be ineligible if purchased through a sale of another show.
6 5. Complete belt formation around the front 1/3 of the body reaching over the upper portion of the shoulder. Yorkshire - White in Color 1. Any hair other than white located on any part of the body. 2. Any non-white pigmentation larger than a quarter or several small areas of pigmentation. (Masking around the forehead, total color spots cannot exceed size of silver dollar.) All others will be in the Crossbreed class. The decision of the classifier will be final. LAMBS AND GOATS Market Lambs Except Southdowns Meat Goats No Max 75 Pound Min. 50 Pounds -No Max 2. Ewe lambs and doe goats are eligible to show in the market class but cannot be shown in both market and breeding. 3. Lambs and meat goats must be validated prior to November 1 by validation committee to be eligible to show in County Show. Dairy goats do not have to be registered. 4. Ewe lambs are eligible to show in the market class but cannot be shown in both market and breeding classes. 5. Grooming will be adhered to Lambs - All fat lambs must be slick shorn from knee and hock up at the time of weigh in. Lambs with excessive wool will not be weighed until shorn to meet satisfaction of sifter. No change in color pattern or highlighting of lamb by painting or dyeing will be allowed. Meat Goats Any breed may be shown including Boers and Crossbred. Tip horns of meat goats blunt before arrival. Goat must be slick shorn above the knee and hock joints, excluding the tail switch before weigh in. Boer Goat All goats over 6 months of age will be classed by their date of birth.
