2 Please read and pay close attention to all deadlines and changes. It is very important that this information is fully understood. Dates need to be marked on your calendar for future reference. 4-H MEMBERS Parents please be sure that your child is enrolled in 4-H and has paid their dues by December 1. You can contact the office to check on your child s status. If your child has not enrolled in 4-H and paid their dues by this deadline they will be ineligible to show. LSU SHOW CATALOG The LSU Livestock Show catalog is available to clientele on the LSU website at HARDSHIP POLICY If a 4-H or FFA livestock project is unable to be housed at your home or families property, then the exhibitor must file for a hardship request for special housing. The request must be made and approved prior to possession date. If this request is not made before possession date then the exhibitor will not be allowed to show at the parish, district, and state livestock shows. No exceptions, so please get your request approved before you purchase show animals this year. Please contact the 4-H Office if you need to complete this request form. VALIDATION DATES Commercial Doe, Commercial Ewe, Market Goat and Market Lamb - November 6-7 at the 4-H office from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00p.m. Commercial Heifer, Commercial Dairy -November 4 at Avoyelles Animal Clinic (Troy Spencer's Office) from 3:30-5:00p.m. Commercial Gilt, Market Swine- December 4 at the 4-H Office from 2:00 p.m-5:00p.m. Animals MUST be VALIDATED to be eligible to show. All animals must be brought to the designated location to be validated. Cost is $6.00 per animal validated. No exceptions!! PARISH SHOW 1. The 2014 Avoyelles Parish Livestock Show is dedicated to Blake Zaunbrecher. 2. ENTRY FEES- Fees are due at time of entry. BEST DRESSED CHICKEN CONTEST-Open to all youth and adults of Avoyelles Parish. This contest will be held at the Livestock Barn in conjunction with the livestock show on Jan. 17, Participants are allowed to dress live or fake (stuffed animal, rubber chicken, etc.) chickens in costumes or dress as a chicken. The judges will score the costume on creativity and originality. Entry Fee is $5.00. MANDATORY BARN CLEAN UP DAY Livestock Barn Clean Up Day will be held on January 11, 9:00 a.m.-noon. We ask that all exhibitors and their families attend to help set help the barn for the parish livestock show.

3 POULTRY EXHIBITORS: Entries are due December 10. State entry fees for exhibition birds are $3.00 per bird due at time of parish entry deadline. State Fees for broiler pens are due at State Show at time of check-in. PARISH BROILER CHICK ORDER Pick up order form at the 4-H office. Chicks are $.50 cents each. Orders are due to the 4-H office by October 25, Birds will be available to be picked up December 4 tentatively. STATE BROILER CHICK ORDER Pick up order form at the 4-H office. Chicks are $.50 cents each. Orders are due to the 4-H office by Nov. 11, Birds will be delivered first week of January. HEALTH CERTIFICATES An official health certificate is required for entry into all Louisiana livestock shows. In state health certificates are valid for 60 days from issue and out-of-state certificates are valid for 30 days. PREMISES ID Premises registration is strongly recommended for animal disease traceability. Premises Identification numbers may be obtained by contacting the Louisiana Department of Agriculture & Forestry, Veterinary Health Division at or on the website at at the Premises ID link. The Online Premise signup will take approximately 5 minutes to complete the simple steps used to obtain your premise identification # MARKET ANIMAL LIVESTOCK EXHIBITORS It is time to start soliciting sponsors/buyers for your market animal projects, if you wish to sell your project after the shows are complete. Remember, selling your market animal project is an option, unless it places grand or reserve champion at the district show. It is to your advantage to acquire your own sponsor/buyer. Please have buyer/sponsor complete a commitment card with their complete mailing address clearly printed at the time of commitment. Commitment cards are available at the 4-H Office. Market animals will be sold price per head. Please be sure to let your sponsor/buyer know that if you win grand champion or reserve champion at the District Livestock Show, you will be expected to sale your animal there. At that time, your buyer/sponsor on the parish level will be relieved from their responsibility as a buyer. Your sponsor/buyer will be billed the week after the parish livestock show. Upon receiving payment from sponsor and a copy of your thank-you letter, the check will be released to the livestock exhibitor. The commitment cards need to be returned to the 4-H office by Friday, January 10, LIVESTOCK CLINICS Livestock Clinic December 27, 2013: A livestock clinic for all species (beef, goat, swine, sheep, poultry and rabbit) has been scheduled at the Avoyelles Animal Clinic in Mansura (Dr. Troy Spencer s office) from 9 a.m. 1 p.m. Hoof trimming, vaccinating, banding, tattooing, health papers, etc. will be offered at this clinic. All livestock exhibitors are encouraged to attend this clinic. Goat/Sheep Clinic January 3: A goat/sheep clinic will be held at the Livestock Show Barn in Marksville from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00p.m. All goat/sheep exhibitors are invited to attend this educational clinic that will discuss showmanship, health, grooming and selection of your livestock project. Please bring at least one of your show goats/sheep to this clinic and your grooming equipment (clippers, blowers, combs, etc.) as well.

4 2014 LSU AGCENTER DISTRICT & STATE LIVESTOCK SHOW RULE CHANGES Commercial/Market Gilt Validation. Commercial and Market hogs will be validated with the same tag, exhibitor must choose either commercial or market prior to District Show Beef Show Schedule changes. There will be a pilot schedule for the 2014 beef cattle show. Both splits of the show will be combined into one show. Please be aware of the changes in the show schedule. STATE LIVESTOCK SHOW- February 8-15 The entry fee schedule will be as follows: Market Steers $30 per head Breeding Beef Cattle $30 per head Commercial Heifers $30 per head Dairy Cattle $25 per head Market Hogs $20 per head Breeding Swine $20 per head Market Lambs $20 per head Breeding Sheep $20 per head Commercial Ewes $20 per head Market Goats $20 per head Breeding Goats $20 per head Broilers $7.50 per pen Exhibition Birds $3 per bird (due December 10 with parish entries) Cattle Grooming Chute $15 per chute Sheep Grooming Chute $10 per table RV and General Parking Call Lamar Dixon (225) for reservation information. 5 AVOYELLES PARISH LIVESTOCK SHOW RULES 1. LSU Livestock Show rules will be enforced at the parish show. 2. The Avoyelles Parish Livestock Show reserves to the Livestock Advisory Board the final absolute rights to interpret, amend and add to the rules and regulations. 3. The agent, Sheena Grote-Cecil, has final authority and responsibility for interpretation and enforcement of rules during judging of the show. 4. STANDARDS OF CONDUCT. The Officials of the Avoyelles Parish Livestock Show are dedicated to the promotion of high standards of competition, sportsmanship, ethics and fair play. Each exhibitor is expected to strictly follow these rules and to conduct himself or herself in a manner that will reflect respect upon the exhibitor, his or her school, organization, and parents. Any exhibitor or member of his/her family who violates and misrepresents Avoyelles Parish by misconduct or rule infraction at the Parish, District or State Livestock shows may have parish sale and other awards canceled. 5. Open to bonafide 4-H and FFA members. 6. Exhibitors may be disqualified for any of the following: A. Possession or use of illegal drugs and/or alcoholic beverages B. Misuse or abuse of personal property (or facilities) C. Disrespect for the authority of agents, Ag. Teachers or leaders D. Disruptive or abusive behavior of exhibitors or family members to other participants or spectators. 7. APPLICATION OF ENTRY. All applications for entry must be made on forms provided by the 4-H Office. Phone entries WILL NOT be accepted. Original copies must be submitted. 8. SIGNATURES. All livestock exhibitors must have the required signatures (Exhibitor, AST / CEA and Parent or Guardian) on each entry form receipt. 9. SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER. All exhibitors must have a personal social security number to be eligible to participate in the Livestock Shows. Social Security numbers must be recorded on entry forms. 10. FOREIGN EXCHANGE STUDENTS. Non-United States Citizens and Foreign Exchange Students are eligible to compete in the Livestock Shows provided they meet all eligibility requirements. 11. In no case shall the livestock show or any of its personnel be held responsible for any loss, damage or death, by disease or otherwise, to any person, property or exhibit while in route to, from or on exhibit grounds. 12. No alcoholic beverages will be allowed in the barn or on show premises. 13. District and State Show Rules with respect to entries, will apply to the parish show. LSU rules regarding possession dates will be adhered to and no animals may be purchased or replaced after possession date unless approved by the State Livestock Management Council. 14. Only registered breeding animals that have been properly transferred in the name of the junior exhibitor by that species possession date will be allowed to show in their respective classes. No member will be allowed to show more than one breeding animal in each age class. 15. All animals shown at the Parish Show are required to be validated by tag at specific sites at the possession date for each species. If any animals are not tagged on these dates, they will be ineligible to show. 16. Animals not exhibiting a Louisiana Bred ear tag in their ear upon entry deadline will not be eligible to compete as Louisiana Bred. Swine exhibitors must have Louisiana Bred certificate in possession to compete for Louisiana Bred.

6 17. Scrapie Tags. Sheep and Goat Exhibitors. The state law and our show rules dictate that an official scrapie tag must be in the ear of all sheep and goats shown in Louisiana. You must obtain your scrapie tags from the person for whom you bought them from. 18. Exhibitors must show their own animal(s) in the show ring. 19. Health certificates are required on all animals to be exhibited. Exhibition poultry must be tested prior to parish show by a veterinarian and health papers issued for those birds testing negative for pullorum/typoid and Avian Influenza. Parents and exhibitors are responsible for obtaining health certificates for all other health requirements including brucellosis testing and vaccinations. *Health Certificates issued must be valid through the State Livestock Show. 20. Minimum and maximum market animal weight limitations are listed for each show. All market animals will be weighed and mouthed prior to judging. All animals must be stripped of all covers. Animals will be weighed only once. If the weight of a market animal is questioned, reweighing must be done before leaving the official scale area. Once weights are turned in they are not subject to be changed. 22. Rabbits will be entered by breed, sex, and age. They are classified as Junior, Intermediate or Senior animals by show officials. Breeds recognized by the ARBA and crossbred rabbits are eligible to be exhibited. Exhibitor may show three breeders per class. 23. A market animal must be properly tagged as LA Bred in order to qualify for the Louisiana Bred Champion awards. Division Champion and Reserve Division Champion animals will be selected in the market lamb and hog shows. Only these animals will compete for overall Champion, Reserve Champion, Louisiana Bred Champion and Louisiana Bred Reserve Champion Awards. 24. Pen space for all animal species participating in parish show will be acquired by exhibitors on a first come basis. 25. Exhibitors and guardians are required to keep their animals and exhibit area clean at all times. Manure and other refuse are to be placed at either end of the cattle ties or sheep and hog pens or in trash bins during the parish show. 26. No one will be allowed in the judging ring other than the judge, contestants and superintendents except in an emergency. 27. Livestock Advisory Committee reserves the right to disqualify any animals that have been unethically fitted or is ineligible by reason of age for exhibition in class entered. See LSU Livestock Show Catalog Rules Book. 28. Any mistreatment of animals will be considered grounds for disqualification.

7 29. Animals sold at the Avoyelles Parish Junior Livestock to a sponsor(s) remain the property and responsibility of the exhibitors until delivered to the buyer or slaughter house. Exhibitors are required to feed and care for all market animals sold at the parish sale for a minimum of 7 days after the last show it was exhibited. Animals can be delivered to the slaughter house any time after the 7 day withholding period upon the buyer s request. 30. SALE OF ANIMAL. The animal purchased by a sponsor must be the same animal delivered to the buyer or slaughterhouse. No replacement animals are allowed. 31. Purchases of animals will be billed to buyers following the show and sale. A 2% charge on all animals sold in the sale will be deducted from each check to assist in defraying expenses for the Parish Show. 32. Parents are responsible for the resale of the animal. If you wish to resale an animal, you must make arrangements with the selected slaughter house. 33. DISBURSEMENT OF MONEY. Every effort will be made to pay the payments as soon as possible; however, payment cannot be guaranteed until the sponsors remit payment to the 4-H Office. Sponsor checks will be issued beginning in April. Checks will not be mailed; they must be picked up at the 4-H Office by June 15 or money will be donated to the livestock show fund. 34. THANK YOU LETTER. Every exhibitor who is eligible to sell their project in the Livestock Sale will be required to write a letter of appreciation to the purchaser of the project. Proof of the appreciation letter along with a stamped addressed envelope must be submitted to the 4-H Office prior to release of the auction payment to the exhibitor. The County Agent should receive the appreciation letter no later than April 25. Any exhibitor, who has not submitted proof of their Thank-You Letter to the supervising County Agent by this date, may forfeit his/her proceeds. The proceeds will be sent back to the buyer or donated to the livestock fund.
