5 MAYORAL MESSAGE 2017 ORANGE SHOW This year s Annual Orange Show will see the long awaited grand introduction of our brand new Showground Pavilion which will help house many of the fabulous displays and activities. Following an agreement between Orange City Council and the Orange Show Society, the $1.5 million construction was funded by the NSW Government and Council and made possible through the successful partnering with local businesses. Designed for a multitude of uses including Annual Show displays, the new Pavilion will also host the local roller derby, annual bird shows, monthly farmers markets, trade exhibits, school and community group uses, car exhibits and varied events. A wonderful asset to our City. In addition to the Pavilion displays the Show this year will of course host the spectacular dog show and the horse events in the arena, not to mention the funny and daring antics of Brophy s Circus with free shows for the public. Stay a while on Saturday evening to enjoy the spectacle of the fireworks, a great family event. On behalf of the community of Orange, a big thank you to the volunteers of the Orange Show Society who make this annual event possible year after year your tireless efforts produce a fantastic event enjoyed by individuals and families from near and far. Welcome if you are a visitor to our City, here to enjoy our Annual Show please relax and take some time to enjoy the beautiful surrounds and our world class food and wine. 6 PRESIDENT MESSAGE 145 ORANGE SHOW The Orange Show is run and organised for families and this year we have a new addition to our family. Krystal and Chris Ross welcomed a beautiful baby boy on the 16th February this year. His name is Xavier Christopher Ross. His grandparents Judy and Rosco and well as great grandparents Patricia and George are always ready to give Xavier a cuddle. We congratulate them all and hope they get a chance to enjoy the show together. This year we are excited to have our new pavilion opened on Saturday afternoon after the grand parade. The new building has been in the planning stages for many years and it is wonderful that we are able to use it for the first time this year. I would like to thank the Orange City Council and staff for their planning. Many stewards including the arts and school sections have decided to move to new new area to display their exhibits with more room and flair. The I.W.A. Wrestling will be housed in the pavilion. This is the first time that we have had this attraction at the Orange Show for patrons to enjoy. It is a very large area and we plan to fill it with new attractions and exhibits. The older Williams, Dalton and Agricultural pavilions will retain many of the origin exhibits as the stewards felt that their sections were more at home there. These include the historical society, wool, vegetable, arts and craft, photography, flowers, cakes and a few new exhibits. So the show ground will have a new feel and plan this year so take a different route and you will discover something that you haven t seen before. As many of you know last year our secretary Marg Kennedy was unable to come into the office as she was very ill with Motor Neuron Disease. We were very fortunate that her daughter Rachael offered to help. We were very greatful for their hard work and commitment. Unfortunately Marg lost her battle a few weeks after the show. I would like to offer our condolences to Peter and all the family. We have the Brophy Circus attending for the 2 days of the show. On Saturday we have cattle, birds, dogs, horse section as well as many other attractions. Sunday sees the beaut utes and the pet show as well as sideshow alley both days. We would like to welcome our new secretary Chris Parks to our team. He has been a wonderful addition to the committee. Button Dunn has worked tirelessly to ensure that the office runs smoothly over the transition period of secretary changeover. We are very greatful for her knowledge and willing help. Amy Carr is our new steward for the show girl competition. She would love to hear from any young woman who may be interested or has any questions about the competition. Come and enjoy the show, have a look around and offer your opinion and help. We are always in need of new interested helpers. There is a lot to learn and a lot to enjoy. See you at the show. Regards - Peter Naylor - President 3

Other strategies such as vaccination of sheep which are unlikely to have been heavily exposed may also be appropriate. Infected flocks flocks are no longer regarded as infected when either: (1) the whole flock consists of approved vaccinates and has undertaken a PFC 350 test, with negative results, at a minimum of 2 years after the last detected infected animal has been removed; OR (2) the whole flock is a second generation approved vaccinate flock which has undertaken a PFC 350 test, with negative results; OR (3) a destocking/decontamination program approved by the CVO of the jurisdiction, has been completed. 77 SPONSORS & SPECIAL PRIZES: Sanders Family CONDITIONS: All exhibits are to be judged for COMMERCIAL VALUE. All exhibits are to be grown by the EXHIBITOR. Mrs Gladys Sharp Memorial Bill Byrnes Memorial Trophy W R Eslick Memorial Trophy Mervyn Parlett Trophy Bunches or collections of herbs to be displayed in clear containers of water that are an appropriate size for the exhibit. Exhibitors may place multiple entries in any class. Orange Show Society will not be responsible for any accident that may be caused to or by an exhibit and will not, under any circumstances, be responsible for the loss or non-delivery of any exhibit. PERPETUAL trophies must be retained by the Orange Show Society. Exhibits must be collected between 4:00pm and 5:00pm on the last show day. Prize money may be collected from the Chief Steward in the Agricultural Pavilion between 4:00pm and 5:00pm on the last show day. Any unclaimed prize will revert to the Orange Show Society one month after the last show day. HINTS & TIPS ON EXHIBITING VEGETABLES: - It is important that the fruit or vegetable has reached maturity perhaps more important that it has not past its peak. - Most fruit and vegetables are best picked on the same day that they will be judged. This is particularly important with leaf vegetables such as silver beet as they will wilt quickly. - Some fruit and vegetables such as onions and pumpkins can be picked when they are at their best and stored for the show if handled properly. - When choosing which fruit or vegetables to show remember a good, even colour that is true to the variety and without blemishes is important. - For classes where more than one of the same variety is required try to choose fruit or vegetables with uniform size, shape and colour. - Stating the name of the variety of fruit or vegetable you have grown is an advantage as each variety has individual characteristics. Think of the difference between a Jap and a QLD blue pumpkin or the difference between a Granny Smith and a Jonathan apple. 74

78 OPEN CLASSES: Open to all individuals and groups If the variety of an exhibit is unknown, entry will still be accepted to classes requesting a named variety.
