1 The DOG and EWE 163 King Road Forestville, NY AUGUST 2013 At the Rochester Collie Club AKC Herding Trials, - July 5, 6 & 7 - Nor'e was only entered in Advanced A course ducks and he ended up with first place each day and on Sunday he took home HIGH IN TRIAL. Mumble did great as well. He was entered in the same class and level as Nor'e and was 2nd behind him on Friday & Saturday. Don't miss our next Herding Clinic with Kyle Smith - August 9, 10 & 11. Working spots are full but don't miss a chance to watch one of the best clinicians teach dogs & handlers to work stock. It has been a gorgeous summer so far. It amazes me the leaps & bounds dogs have been showing in their lessons AND not to forget the handlers, too. I am very proud of all the students coming here, they have put in a lot of hard work to get where they are now with themselves and their dogs. When you hire someone such as a personal trainer, dog trainer, riding instructor, life coach, swim instructor, etc. you are paying for their expertise and experience. The rest is up to you. You have to be ready and willing to change what it is you are currently doing in order to get different results. All your 'coach' can do is educate, inspire, and motivate, they can't do it for you. So if you're working hard at something and it's just not happening, take a look at your commitment, because sometimes all it takes is a little sweat and dedication...lacey Syzemore There's a few things to remind people of IF you use something put it back. This goes for throw sticks, tools, etc. If you use a long line roll it back up and put it back. ALSO if your dog poops in the working areas pick it up. IF your dog poops in the mowed areas pick it up. If you bag it take it home. I have pooper scoopers around that you can use toss in woods or tall fields. I now have an electric fence for the sheep to graze different areas in assume that it is on and you or your dog will get shocked from it. Be careful around it, as a few dogs have already found out that it gives off a pretty good shock. Of course one of them was my dog... **Drive down the sheep driveway and NOT down the neighbor's driveway. THANKS COWS ARE COMING Thursday late afternoon/evening. 2 AUGUST The Dog & Ewe Lesson Schedule SUNDAY - GROUP Lessons 3pm to 4pm 8 dog limit NEW CHANGE these will be ongoing. Pay per class - $15. Sunday Group dates are - August 4, 18, 25, Sept 1, 15, 22, 29 TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY - PRIVATE Lessons Tues -11am to 3pm Wed 3pm to 8pm, Thurs 3pm to 7pm**. Booked in one hour increments. $45 per lesson. If you have never had a lesson before, the first lesson is $60 and each one after that is $45. If you would like to pay for four lessons up front, the cost is $160, otherwise $45 per lesson. No refunds if you miss a week exchange for different day possible. ** THURSDAY afternoons $60 per lesson. Cattle lessons take place in Sherman, NY near Mayville. Lesson fee includes cattle rental fee. SATURDAY CLINIC 11am to 3pm 12 dog limit Will run each Saturday through the fall. $45 per person. Each person is allowed up to two dogs to work that day. We will take a lunch break bring your own. August 3, 24, 31. Sept 7, 14, 21 **All Herding Lessons will be outside, so wear appropriate clothing. Bring towels for your dog and water. PRACTICES & RENTALS - Students are welcomed to a free practice session before or after their lesson, if they take private lessons or on Sunday. Any other time practice will be $10. All others - practice sessions are $30 (up to two dogs) You will have to demonstrate the proficient skills necessary to work on your own. REFER A FRIEND Any student will receive $10 off their next lesson for referring a friend. That referral must commit to 4 wks of Group Lessons, a Saturday Clinic or Private. Just let me know who you have as your friend so we can give you $10 off your next lesson! IF ANYONE is entering dog trials- obedience, agility,conformation etc or going to a vets office, pet store or groomer I have brochures and flyers that can be handed out or pinned to a bulletin board LMK and I can supply you with them. I appreciate any referrals, or setting out of flyers. Remember, the sheep are supported by student lessons and we really need to encourage more people to come and try herding here. Understand that all of my reading these past few years has been dog centric. Your herding primer is BY FAR the best training manual I have ever seen. The juxtaposition of the descriptions, pictures of right and wrong and training instructions is just plain phenomenal. I understood things that I had not seen before and I think your insight into canine behavior is brilliant. D. Like in years previous, I will be asking for DONATIONS to keep it around. It costs about $70 per month and it'll be here from April through November. Need to raise about $560. THANK YOU to those that have been donating. CAUTION Traffic construction at Rts 5 & 20 The bridge over the Cattaragus Creek at Rts 5 & 20 is now under construction and the traffic is all boggled up. They are building a new bridge. For those traveling I-90 you will not be affected. The only people that need to be aware of the construction will be those that actually drive down Rts 5 & 20 and cross that bridge. All I can say is either take Rt 62 over to Milestrip and then take Versailles to Perrysburg. Or from Rt 5 take Eden-Evans Center to Versailles and take that right into Perrysburg and then left on North, and a right onto Plank Rd. Plank turns into King a few miles down, and then the farm is down a few miles on the left.

Volunteers needed to feed animals: August 17 September 28 October 25, 26, 27 & 28 the DOG & EWE - ON THE ROAD July 19 Stagecoach in Irving we had a great time working in the fenced in areana. We set up a few obstacles to show the crowd. Chelle & Yankee, John & Chloe and my dogs went and showed everyone what good working dogs can do. Pitty we only had an hour to work.

5 July 21 - LaSalle Park - A few of us went and did herding demos for Run4Rover. There where lots of people and other dog events going on. July 27 - Emery Park Had a huge interest for Herding Instinct Evaluations. Thanks go out to Gail., Carol, & Jeff for helping out. Carol had her BCs Teagan & Duncan with her and they did great in the new surroundings. Jeff and his Aussie Merlin also did a great job with his driving lessons. We had a number of Rhodesian Ridgebacks, some Aussies, BCs, and other breeds try herding. Photo right is my 1 yo Aussie Sway. The recipient will be entitled to the following stock dog training sessions for a value of $135 with Jean Barrett: 1 group class (1 hour class for 4 weeks) at a value of $45, Upon the recipient s purchasing and completing a group clinic (typically a 4-5 hour timeframe) another clinic will be awarded at a value of $45. After attending the two group clinics and their purchase of one private lesson with Jean Barrett they will be awarded one private lesson, value of $45. To apply please submit a brief statement to Jean Barrett, jean.barrett@verizon.net on why you are interested in learning and experiencing the tradition of working livestock. The award will be determined by the award sponsor and input from the herding-co-op members will be requested in the event of a tie. Deadline September 30, 2013.
