2 Join the FUN! Unit Registration: At the event February 16 th 7:30 to 8:45am at the Ramsey Shelter. Cost $15.00 per participant (Boy Scout or Webelos), lunch is included for all. Adult, Staff and District Personnel $10.00 each. All participants need to bring a BSA Health Form. Camping is optional for the whole weekend. Tent camping available. Shelters are available to rent, contact Steve Young for information. The included registration form must be submitted when registering the unit. Time Line: Registration 7:30 to 8:45am Flag Raising 8:45 to 9:00am Events 9:00 to 12:00pm Lunch 12:00 to 1:00pm Events 1:00 to 4:00pm Sled Race Announced at Registration Awards 4:30 to 4:45pm Closing 4:45 to 5:00pm Departure 5:00pm What to Bring with You: A Klondike Sled ( Hawaiian Theme ) Cell Phone or Digital Camera Ropes ( More than ONE ) First-Aid Kit ( Wilderness First-Aid ) Blankets (Again - More than ONE ) Warm Clothing and Boots A Clean Tarp, Remember the 2016 MUD-BOWL Money There will be a Trading Post The Details: Please watch the boys for signs of hypothermia. There will be a sled judging contest. Remember the sled should have a Hawaiian theme. Please us your expected head count so we can plan lunch for everyone. Travois Lashing & Walking Its upright. Know your lashing and knots. Norwegian Skies Don t fall! Team-work is the key. Ice Rescue & First Aid Don t PANIC!!! Cold is the enemy. Knot Tying It is what it is. Study them knots. Mystery Event No hints here. Be Prepared for anything. Sled Race This is the mad dash to the end. Boots Only, NO Tennis Shoes. Sled Judging Think Hawaiian It shouldn t look like it belongs in the snow.

4 Klondike Derby Sleds Klondike Derby sleds are pa erned a er Eskimo dog team sleds. Most are about six feet long, 18 to 24 inches wide, and three feet high at the driver's end. They are pulled by scouts holding a bridle. One scout rides in the sled and one drives the sled from the rear. The sled should also carry your patrol s gear during the day. Sleds may be used year a er year. Sleds can be made of any material, such as wood, plas c, or metal, but light and flexible may be a good idea. Most sleds are made of wood, o en using old downhill ski or PVC pipe runners. Keep in mind course condi ons may vary. Steel runners are good on hard ground, but in deep snow or mud you're in trouble because they sink. Wax or varnish the runners to minimize fric on. Commercially built sleds may not be used. Each sled must have a pulling harness made of rope or webbing to pull the sled. No poles are allowed. The pulling harness will be limited to no more than seven scouts. Display your troop/crew number on the sled. The internet contains many sled plans. Don t wait too long to build your sled.
