That s a win, win situation. Sincerely, Mrs. R. PS: check out our website for additional news about our 2016 EXTRAVAGANZA. More fun contests are being planned AND we have several educational seminars planned throughout the day. Happy Holidays WHAT BREED AM I? 2 The LARGEST JUNIOR POULTRY SHOW OF THE YEAR FOR OUR MEMBERS! I hope our members are already thinking about and planning to attend the YEPA Extravaganza and the Dixie Classic in Knoxville, TN this coming December. I can t believe the plans the Dixie Classic group has in store for all junior exhibitors. They are really thinking outside the box to make this a show not to miss. The junior coordinator has already been hard at work this spring and summer. There will be special contests this year and we will be announcing them soon so watch your s from YEPA as well as on the Tennessee Valley Poultry Club and the YEPA website and facebook pages. Just to give you a small hint. The Dixie Classic crew has worked out a program whereby each year a King and Queen of the Dixie Classic will be chosen. The awards and plans for this event are humungous. They are also planning on a home baked cookie contest that all juniors can enter. I hope they ask me to be one of the judges if they have tasters. They will also have tables set up for our juniors to make items that they can take home. YEPA and the TENNESSEE VALLEY POULTRY CLUB are partners when it comes to putting on a special show for the juniors. This show group is very focused on our junior exhibitors and consider it one of the most important parts of showing at the Dixie Classic. They realize that you, the junior exhibitor is the future of the poultry hobby. Their goal and the goal of YEPA is to make this show one of the most exciting fun trips a junior can have as you move into adulthood in the poultry hobby. As I m sure you must know by now there are several contests that you can enter for our EXTRVA- GANZA. They have been posted on our FB page and on our website. PLUS as of today I have tied up some seminars that you should seriously consider attending, even if they aren t about your specific breeds. They will help expand your education regarding breeds and the APA & ABA standards for these breeds. Please check our website for information about our contests, seminars, motel rooms and driving directions. IF you are attending the Ohio National the TVPC will have a table set up to take entry forms for the EXTRAVAGANZA & the Dixie Classic. DON T FORGET TO SIGN IN AT THE YEPA TABLE. We have a great door prize awaiting you to sign in and get your ticket for the drawing.
Points posted on our website are up to date as of October 31st. Not all show reports have been received from the sanctioned shows so if your points are off that may be the problem. For information please contact our points secretary, Jennifer Bergin at or Please check our website for updates monthly. All sanctioned showmanship competitions are posted on our website and on our YEPA facebook page. Please check out your website for updates. There are new posts almost daily on our social media facebook page. If you don't below look us up and ask to be added to the page. It is very strict and only available to our members, their parents, judges and a few other special YEPA supporters. Your dues must be kept up to date to stay linked to this page. Let s keep it fair! You need to keep your dues up to date. This is your responsibility. If your dues are not current you do not receive showmanship points. If you ask if you pay your dues after the show is over the answer is no. To be fair to members that keep their dues up to date we have to keep it fair. Once your dues are 4 months past due you will be removed from our membership roster, from our facebook page and you will lose all of those hard earned achievements when you are working in the ACE Program. This is your responsibility, right?. Don t forget to let us know. It s your responsibility. Unless you contact the office and give us your changes you probably won t get your renewal post cards reminding you that your dues are due. I get many back in the mail saying moved cannot forward. If you change your address and don t tell us then you won t be receiving updates of what is happening in the club, including contests, general information and special events. Please don't say you haven t heard anything from YEPA I get too many s back that this person is not a customer of this address. KEEP US IN THE LOOP! nanamamabrahma@att.net or chickenbarn@att.net
Circle the hidden words on the list. The words can be hidden up, down or diagonally. When you have finished, use the left over letters to find a message. What is the message? The message is:. egg hatch egg tooth embryo feather hen membrane shell beak incubator yolk combs Find the answers on another page.
DEFECTS & DISQUALIFICATIONS (STUDYING THE APA AND ABA STANDARDS) Check the correct box: Defect DQ 1. A Silkie has only 4 toes? 2. Vulture hocks on a Brahma? 3. A chicken is missing a toenail? 4. Presence of parasites? 5. A cock entered as a hen? 6. Blind in one eye? 7. A wry tail? 8. One inch of positive white in a black Old English? 9. Feathers other than white or creamy in Call Ducks? 10. A knob on the bill of a Toulouse Goose 11. A Modern Game cock not dubbed? Dear Youth Members: SHOWMANSHIP ADVICE FROM A JUDGE When you are competing in showmanship, be aware that it is impossible for you to tell the judge "too much". We want to know everything you can tell us about your bird. Another point, when reciting the parts of your bird, point exactly to the area/part you say at the same time you are naming them. Don't just spew out words/terms and point here and there, be specific. The judge needs to know that you are labeling the correct part (s) at the correct time. Learn to properly pose your bird on the table and in a cage. Learn how to evaluate your bird when examining it the same way a judge would when he is judging your bird in its class. Starting at the head and working your way down to the toenails. Be able to explain what you are evaluating and what you are finding during this evaluation. (example: eye color needs improvement, width of head is good or needs work, length of back is good or poor. All of this is specifically about the breed you are using in showmanship for this demonstration. Perhaps this is some food for thought at all levels of competition. Paul Kroll, (New York) APA-ABA General License Judge.
DEFECTS & DISQUALIFICATIONS 1. DQ, 2. DQ, 3. Defect, 4. DQ, 5. DQ, 6. Defect, 7. DQ, 8. DQ, 9. DQ, 10. DQ, 11.DQ Name the type of comb for the breeds listed below. Answers found in your APA Standard of Perfection. Breed Orpington Comb (s) Polish Rhode Island Red Modern Game Silkie Dutch Sultan Houdan Dorking Brahma Faverolles RUNNER DUCK EDUCATION What owes the Runner duck to have an upright position? Short thighs. A good word to remember when breeding or judging runner ducks is long. Almost everything about the runner duck is supposed to be long. The head should be long and very flat. Some judges use the method of placing a pencil on the head to see how flat it is. The eyes should be set very high on the head and appear alert. The neck should be long and thin but not bony. The body should also be long and round, not triangular shaped. Like the neck, the body should be thin in shape, not bony. LaFleche Cornish Buckeye Langshan Narragansett Turkey Phoenix Sumatra Ko Shamo RUNNERS should be judged in a judging ring not in a cage. To see an example of this visit the judging ring at the 2016 YEPA Extravaganza at the Dixie Class show in Knoxville, Dec. 3rd, 2016.
Earn double points at the 2016 YEPA EXTRAVAGANZA in showmanship in all classes. NEW Event starts in 2016 at the YEPA EXTRAVAGANZA.
