Field Trial Dogs Field Trial Bitches For dogs/bitches that have placed first, second, third, or fourth in any regular class in an AKC Licensed Field Trial; or who hold the Hunting Dog or Hunting Dog Excellent titles from the ESAA Hunting Dog Tests as published in the ESAA Newsletter or as confirmed by the Hunting Dog Committee Chairman; or who have been awarded an AKC Hunting Dog Title as confirmed by the AKC Gazette. Winners of the above Non-Regular classes are eligible to compete in Best of Breed competition, provided that they are undefeated in any Regular class at this event. BEST OF BREED COMPETITION The following categories of dogs may be entered and shown in Best of Breed or Variety competition: Dogs that are Champions of Record, or Dogs which according to their owners' records have completed the requirements for a championship but whose championships are unconfirmed. The entry and showing of dogs whose championships are unconfirmed is limited to a period of 90 days from the day of the show where a dog completed the requirements for a championship according to the owners' records. No defeated dogs will be allowed to compete in Best of Breed. GRAND CHAMPION SELECT Dogs eligible for Grand Champion competition are Champions competing in BOB, move-ups to BOB, and Champions that win Non-Regular classes and become eligible for BOB. Altered or spayed CH veterans are eligible at independent specialties. Winners Dog and Winners Bitch are NOT eligible. At the judge s discretion, Grand Championship points may be awarded to: Best of Breed, Best of Opposite Sex, Select Dog, and Select Bitch. AWARDS OF MERIT The Monterey Bay English Setter Club will offer Award(s) of Merit at their Specialty Show to dogs competing in Best of Breed Competition (other than BOB and BOS) for deserved recognition of quality breed characteristics, to be awarded at the officiating judge s discretion. A special Rosette will be presented to the Award of Merit recipient(s). One AOM may be presented for every five (5) entries in Best of Breed (based on total entry at time of closing, i.e. disregarding absentees or move-ups). BEST PUPPY IN REGULAR ES Selected from the winners of Puppy Classes (6-9, 9-12). If BOW or BOB is from a Puppy Class, it is automatically awarded Best Puppy. BEST BRED-BY-EXHIBITOR Selected from the winners of BBE Dog and BBE Bitches. If BOW or BOB is from a BBE class, it is automatically awarded Best BBE. NON-REGULAR ES INVOLVING MULTIPLE-DOG ENTRIES Stud Dog Brood Bitch STUD DOG, for Dogs that have sired two dogs or bitches entered at this show. The Stud Dog must be entered in the Stud Dog Class and be shown in the ring with his Get. The Get is to be judged, not the Stud Dog. The Get MUST be entered in one of the Regular or Non-Regular conformation classes at this show. Owner of the Stud Dog need not necessarily be the owner of the Get. BROOD BITCH. Same as Stud Dog, substitute Brood Bitch for Stud Dog and Produce for Get. As the judge's decision in the Stud Dog and Brood Bitch Classes will be based on the merits of more than one dog or bitch, no one of the dogs or bitches making up the entry judged First in these classes will be eligible to compete for Best of Breed by virtue of having won these classes. Exhibitor Hospitality Please join us for complimentary coffee and donuts on Friday morning prior to judging, to be held in the grooming area near our ring. All exhibitors are invited to join MBESC for snacks and beverages at the conclusion of judging to be held either in the grooming area or at the English Setter motor home area. Also, no portable generators are to be operated under any tenting, nor are to be operated within 15 feet of any tenting. º YOU MUST PICK UP AFTER YOUR DOG... including HAIR removed as a result of grooming. Scoops and containers are provided. º DO NOT LEAVE DOGS IN CLOSED VEHICLES. Any unsupervised dog in distress may be removed from a vehicle, by whatever means is necessary, by Humane Society or police/sheriff authorities. ANY VIOLATION MAY RESULT IN EVENT COMMITTEE DISCIPLINARY ACTION. º CALIFORNIA STATE LAW SPECIFIES NO SMOKING OR ALCOHOL on school property, anytime or anywhere. Non-compliance may result in Event Committee Hearing. º SET-UPS and EX-PENS permitted only in designated areas. º Exhibitors should follow their veterinarians recommendation to assure their dogs are free of internal and external parasites, any communicable diseases, and have appropriate vaccinations. º NO EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN (EMT) will be in attendance at Friday shows. 5 Notice To Exhibitors 1. Conditional, telegraph, telephone, and unsigned entries cannot be accepted. Entries not on Official AKC Entry Forms or photocopies of Entry Forms without Agreement and Rules on the reverse side of entry form are NOT ACCEPTABLE. Entries without fees are not acceptable. Fees must accompany entries. 2. Post dated checks and returned checks do not constitute a valid entry fee. The Club will add a collection fee of $20.00 to the amount of each returned check. Subsequent returned checks from the same exhibitor(s) may result in their being put on a CASH ONLY basis. 3. PLEASE TYPEWRITE or NEATLY PRINT all entries. Use black or blue ink as entries will be photocopied. DO NOT use pencil or colored ink to write entries. 4. Changes, additions, or corrections to entry forms must be received in writing prior to close of entries. Changes are not acceptable by telephone. or faxed changes are allowed. 5. ERRORS ON ENTRY FORMS Owners alone are responsible for the correctness of entries, or for entering the same dog twice, or for entering a dog in a class in which the dog is ineligible to compete, regardless of who makes such errors. No entry fee will be refunded in the event of such errors or cancellation of entries after the published closing date and time. Due to cost of processing, no refunds less than $4.00 will be made. 6. ENTRY FEES WILL NOT BE REFUNDED in event a dog is absent, disqualified, excused by the Veterinarian or Judge, or barred from competition by action of the Event s Show Committee. If, because of riots, wars, civil disturbances, fire, Act of God, strikes, national emergencies, health emergencies, extreme weather conditions (including but not limited to extreme heat, floods, hurricanes, lightning, or earthquakes), or other acts beyond the control of the management, it is impossible to open or complete the show, no refund of entry fees will be made. The well-being of dogs, exhibitors, and spectators is of paramount importance and, in the event it is necessary to cancel or stop the show before completion, no refund of entry fees will be made. 7. CONFIRMATION OF ENTRY & SCHEDULE OF JUDGING TIME will be sent to the address on the Official AKC Entry Form after the closing date. If an exhibitor has not received a copy of the Schedule within seven days of the show, please notify the Show Secretary. 8. DECLINATION OF ENTRIES: The Club may decline any entry for cause, and may refuse to receive, or may remove any dog on account of disease, viciousness or other causes, and no one shall have any claim or recourse against the Club or any official. 9. PLEASE NOTE: Dogs which according to their owners' records have completed the requirements for a championship after the closing of entries for the show but whose championships are unconfirmed, may be transferred from one of the regular classes to Best of Breed or Variety competition, provided this transfer is made by the Superintendent or Show Secretary one half hour prior to the start of any regular conformation judging at the show. (American Kennel Club Rule, Chapter 11, Sec 6) 10. DOGS MAY ARRIVE any time prior to their scheduled time of judging. Dogs not required for further judging will be excused. 11. DOGS MUST BE READY FOR JUDGING. The Club and/or its Show Secretary will not be responsible for, and are not obligated to furnish any service for notifying exhibitors or their agents of breed or class judging. Owners or their agents alone are responsible for the presence of their dogs in the judging ring. Judges will not wait for any dog holding up a class. 12. NO DOGS WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE SHOW AREA except those regularly entered in the show. There will be NO SPACE for unentered dogs at this show. All dogs shall be kept on leash or confined, except when being judged or in the exercising ring. 13. ALL AWARDS WILL BE MADE in the judging ring to the person exhibiting the dog and that person shall be considered the owner or the agent. All claims for trophies must be made in the judging ring before the completion of judging, and the Show Secretary should be advised at once of any discrepancy. The show-giving club and its officials disclaim any liability for any awards not claimed on the day of the show. 14. The Club will take every precaution for the safety of dogs exhibited, but it is understood that the Monterey Bay English Setter Club will not be responsible for loss. The welfare of the exhibitor s child is assumed to be the responsibility of the exhibitor. Please secure proper crates or means to confine dogs for the welfare of all concerned. 15. OBEDIENCE TRANSFERS will be allowed in accordance with Chapter 1, Section 16 of the Obedience Regulations. The Show Secretary must be notified in writing no later than 30 minutes prior to judging. Sweepstakes Offered with each Specialty Show, Morning & Afternoon. SWEEPSTAKES ES Puppy Dogs (6 months & under 9 months) Bitches (6 months & under 9 months) Puppy Dogs (9 months & under 12 months) Puppy Bitches (9 months & under 12 months) Dogs (12 months & under 18 months) Bitches (12 months & under 18 months) SWEEPSTAKES RULES This sweepstakes is open to all English Setters who, on the date of the show, shall be at least 6 months and under 18 months of age. There are no limitations on dogs or handlers. Sweepstakes classes will be judged prior to the Regular Breed classes. Winners of the Sweepstakes classes will compete for Best in Sweepstakes and Best of Opposite Sex in Sweepstakes. Entry fee is $24.00 per entry and is in addition to the entry fee for the Regular Classes. All entries in the Sweepstakes must also be entered in a Regular Class in this show at the appropriate entry fee. Entries shall be made on the same entry form as the Regular Classes, indicate Sweepstakes with the appropriate age and sex in the space provided for Additional Classes. CASH PRIZES The Club shall retain no more than 30% of the entry fees for Sweepstakes for expenses. Remaining monies will be divided as follows: 50% of remaining monies to be divided equally among the First Place winners of each of the six classes. 30% of remaining monies to Best in Sweepstakes Winner. 20% of remaining monies to Best of Opposite Sex in Sweepstakes Winner. VETERAN SWEEPSTAKES ES Bitches (7 years & under 9 years) Bitches (9 years & under 11 years) Bitches (11 years & older) VETERAN SWEEPSTAKES RULES The Veteran Sweepstakes is open to all English Setters dogs and bitches who, on the date of the show, are 7 years and older. Neutered dogs and spayed bitches may be entered in Veteran Sweepstakes. Entrants do not need to be entered in a regular class. Indicate Veteran Sweepstakes with age and sex division in space provided for Additional Classes on the entry form. Winners of Veteran Sweepstakes classes will compete for Best in Veteran Sweepstakes and Best of Opposite Sex to Best in Veteran Sweepstakes. CASH PRIZES The Club shall retain no more than 30% of the entry fees for Veteran Sweepstakes for expenses. 6 Obedience & Rally Trial Classes English Setters Only. Offered with Morning Specialty only. TRANSFERS (MOVE-UPS) TO NEXT OBEDIENCE LEVEL ARE ALLOWED, provided the exhibitor notifies the Show Secretary in writing at least 30 minutes prior to start of the trial, the judge and class are available, and the class has not reached its limit. BITCHES IN SEASON: A full refund of the Obedience entry fee will be offered to bitches that come in season after the closing date, with veterinarian letter and notice to Show Secretary at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the trial. Please specify jump height on entry form when applicable. Specialty Trophies Prizes are offered by the Monterey Bay English Setter Club, through the generosity of its members and friends. The Club reserves the right to make prize substitutions of equal or greater value in the event a listed prize is not available. A complete list of donors will be included in the catalog. The English Setter Association of America offers a 10" Engraved Sterling Silver Bowl for Best of Breed. The Monterey Bay English Setter Club offers a Medallion to the winners of Best of Breed, Best of Opposite Sex, Winners Dog, Winners Bitch, and Highest Scoring Dog in the regular obedience trial classes.
