We were honored to have BHCA President Richard Nance and his wife Sharon participating. It was great seeing everyone and having a chance to catch up on the latest goings on and spend some time visiting. Some of us go back quite a few years and it s always fun to reminisce. John did a wonderful job with the luncheon and with breakfast hospitality. So many club members brought food items, our table was overflowing and next year we ll be sure to add another table. We had everything from fresh fruit to McDonald s breakfast burritos a very nice variety. In spite of Terry All Kennel Club covering all the electrical outlets in the building, we were resourceful enough to find the one source of electricity in the whole entire building and plug in the coffee pot. we had did quality as opposed to the numerous entries we had last year, none of which qualified. Thanks to Jane for heading up the performance end of our specialty. Cindy raised almost $400 by heading up the raffle. Some of the items were recycled from previous years but others had not been seen before. The raffle table was varied and interesting and as always, Basset enthusiasts are always willing to add to their collections. It was fun. I don t know what we would have done without JR and John and others who really worked hard to set up luncheon tables, move mats, set up and tear down afterward. Others swept, picked up paper and debris, anything that needed to be done. We were able to get our damage deposit back with no problem at all. Terry All members were friendly and cordial Kelly Yarish was a pleasure to work with. Everyone seemed to enjoy the luncheon. As always, Donna did a great professional job. It was nice having the luncheon on site this year not having to move dogs or spend time traveling. Next year we ll try and have the luncheon just a bit earlier. Even with the time needed for pictures, we did have some time to spare. We still don t have the show pictures from Bill Kohler but they are sure to be here by next month so watch for them in the May Waggin Tales. I m attaching a marked catalog to this newsletter. Next year, the judges are Kitty Steidel and Liz Friedlander for sweepstakes. We already have a trophy chairman for next year Christina Wannamaker is working on that. Need other committee volunteers so please chime in if you re willing to take on a job. Thank you! 3 TBHC INAUGURAL TRACKING TEST APRIL 17, 2011 CHATFIELD STATE PARK, LITTLETON, COLORADO I wish to send another thank you to all who helped with this test, as well as all who entered. It took the combined efforts of everybody to launch our Timberline First Annual Basset Hound, all-breed Tracking Event. While we wish we could have awarded more trophy plaques to the five exhibitor teams, we do fell very honored to have been able to present this ONE to our new TD and " honorary Basset" Ch. Flairfor Spring Loaded, MX, MXJ, CD, RN, Curly Coated Retriever and his proud handler Milan Hess. It has been several years since I Chaired/Secretaried a Tracking Test. Doing this once again reminds me that tracking exists due to the love of the sport and the extreme good will of the tracking community, and of course the deep bond we experience from working with our wonderful dogs. I wish all who entered best of luck in all future efforts at all levels with your talented dogs. They ALL deserve a hug tonight just for " being there". Thanks again everybody! 4 And on behalf of the Timberline Basset Hound Club thanks most of all to Jane Jonas who engineered this tracking effort from start to finish, got financial support from Denver Foothills Tracking Association, helped us get our dogs trained, and very ably taught many of us how to put on a tracking test. The weather was beautiful. The breakfast burritos made by JR were a big hit. We had a great time and are already planning for our first combined (TD, TDX) test next year. He graduated from Middletown High School and worked as an engineer at IBM for 40 years. He married his high school sweetheart, Cynthia, this year would have marked their 50th anniversary. We lost him on April 26, Tom had a tremendous sense of humor and enjoyed people. He enjoyed playing bridge and chess and was actively involved with breeding and showing Basset Hounds and Wire Dachshunds. Tom competed in Conformation, Rally, Obedience and Agility and titled dogs in each of these venues. He was an AKC Rally judge and the founder and administrator for the Colorado Agility internet group. He was a member of the Timberline Basset Hound Club for over 40 years and served as Vice-President/Treasurer for most of the past 20 years; it was a job he really liked and he was very adept at it. Tom would volunteer for any project that could use his expertise. He was instrumental in getting Timberline licensed to hold agility trials and the club benefited greatly from his expertise in managing and obtaining agility personnel for our trials. He was well known in the dog community throughout Colorado; you could be arguing with him on some point but ten minutes later you were laughing with him about some clever comments he had made. We at Timberline know we have lost not only a great team player but a very dear friend. We were lucky to have him for these many years. 1 2
