3 ROYALTY THE ULTIMATE FEMALE MAKER PERIOD! ICONIC x KING x JUICY FRUIT (2013 NJSS Res. Champion Overall Gilt, 25,000 Record-Selling Duroc Gilt) DUROC :: Bred by John Huinker, S.D. As soon as John Huinker told us at expo he thought he had Iconic sons that would light the world on fire, we hopped in the pickup and drove to Decorah. John drove out the 19 litter boar, which we now call ROYALTY. This is the one that could honestly rival his daddy s footsteps in terms of champions. Extension, look, presence, ungodly amounts of body shape, fore rib and flank. ROYALTY is a tall-shouldered boar that drives right at you with a monster chest floor and is perfectly square from blade to his knee and on to the ground, while being equally impressive as he strides away. He simply offers more substance of bone and an even better set to his hind leg than his daddy. Combining the fact that he is phenotypically the closest to ICONIC, he also boasts maybe the best female-making red boar pedigree of all time! His dam is the sought after, World-Record selling Reserve Overall Gilt from Dan Meeker at the 2013 NJSS in Louisville, Kentucky. His sire s dam is the Grand Overall Gilt at the 2012 WPX from Nathan Weisinger who has generated like few in the breed ever have. If you want to make those incredibly hard to beat red show gilts then ROYALTY is, in our opinion, the best option bar none! ROYALTY S DAM Record-selling Res. 4 ICONIC DUROC SIRE OF THE YEAR! FLASH DRIVE x CROWN ROYAL DUROC :: Bred by Weisigner Farms, Iowa We are truly honored to be able to own and house this 97,000 purchase of the 2013 World Pork Expo Grand Champion Duroc Boar. We are humbled by the positive comments and agree 100 percent with how NSR Representative Brian Anderson describe this boar in the Seedstock EDGE WPX recap, it has been a long time, since we have seen a red one with this kind of look, presence and skeleton. Man, could this one motor. Super flexible, athletic and really square from the ground up. This one may not have been loved by everyone, but the folks that may not have liked him as well are probably the ones that should tie in. I promise you that this one will make red barrows that will win hog shows. In our mind, ICONIC is the most intriguing and impressive Duroc boar to surface in recent years! ICONIC S DAM Res. 6 LEGEND THE BANNER BARROW MAKER! ICONIC x BUCK CHERRY DUROC :: Bred by John Huinker, S.D. This is the February boar from John s ICONIC group that was the unique barrow maker in Jason s mind. This is the moderate, super-square built, barrel-ribbed boar that looked like he could top the red barrows at shows anywhere, if he didn t have his boys with him. A big yet clean boned young stud that comes and goes the widest, boldest and the most pulled apart of the three. We love how this guy sets in a near perfect hind leg, is long about his hip and just makes all of these barrow-needed pieces mold together like it s a painting. One that is wide in his pin set and stifle, yet doesn t come in at his hock like so many of them do. If you want to make red barrows that can dethrone some crosses, this is your best bet! 7 SUPER HERO THE HEAVIEST STRUCTURED ICONIC WE HAVE SEEN! ICONIC x ASIA DUROC :: Bred by John Huinker, S.D. SUPER HERO is the one that makes you get excited to use some of the modern day flash of Iconic, mixed with the traditional red hog values that have taken place in the HD herd for so long. Rugged, with stout features and raw shape with a big back, blades and bone! This is the super, stout-featured boar and the heaviest-structured ICONIC we have seen, yet he has the look through his head and neck that his daddy stamped in his championship run all summer long! Possibly the most valuable thing that SUPER HERO possesses is his ability to potentially sire all kinds! He is tall shouldered and extended enough to make gilts, is square built and packed full of muscle to make barrows, yet possesses that power and ruggedness to make high-quality herd boars! This boar s mommy has her own pen at John s, and if you know him, that means she is awfully special! 8 ATOMIC 60,000 TOP-SELLING DUROC, 2014 STC WITHOUT A DOUBT x TRIPLE ROCK DUROC :: Bred by Newcastle Genetics With our already powerful set of red boars from the great HD herd we still needed to find the outcross to ICONIC. Ross and Pat packed up and left for Louisville on Thursday morning, and Friday Ross called and said, I found the outcross. Forehand s Duroc entry was exactly what we were looking for to offer to those customers that choose not to line up Iconic. This WITHOUT A DOUBT son offers extreme flexibility, a near perfect hip and hind leg, and a monster set of feet and legs. This boar balances up nicely, yet has the appropriate amount of genuine muscle laid into his near perfect skeleton. ATOMIC is a wide-chested boar that opens up behind his shoulder into a big fore rib and great center cavity. This boar s elevation up front and extension from his blade forward will help ensure you don t lose that look you gathered with ICONIC. Use this one with confidence to make those highly competitive red hogs that will outlast the competition in the drive! 9 FLAT BILL WHAT A FIND AT BELTON! HATS OFF 14-8 (Speechless Littermate) x STERLING SILVER HAMPSHIRE :: Bred by Mike & George Watson, Ind. Our phone rang off the hook after Watson s Hampshire boar entry hit the ring at Belton in March. The reps and spectators raved about this boar s stoutness of feature, capacity, raw shape and barrow build! FLAT BILL shares a lot of the traits as his legendary granddaddy (Hats Off ) while being stouter structured, longer hipped and bigger footed with more flex and reach. When I talked to Mike after Belton, he expressed that FLAT BILL has as much generating power as any boar he has produced to date! For starters, his grandpa, Hats Off, is sired by Sterling Silver (2010 Champ at Indiana) on the littermate to Augusta s mom and has sired champion breeding and market hogs across the nation with his most recent win coming at 2014 OYE Supreme Gilt Overall. FLAT BILL S daddy is a littermate to Speechless (2012 Fall Classic Champ Hamp) who sired the Champion Hampshire Gilt at San Antonio 2014 and the Reserve Champion Hampshire Market Hog at Denver Hats Off 14-8 also sired the Reserve Champion Hampshire Boar at the 2014 Winter Type Conference in Perry, Georgia. FLAT BILL S mother is a true generator at Watsons, raising the champion and Reserve Gilts at the 13 NJSS in Louisville, Kentucky. In addition, FLAT BILL S grandmother, produced the Grand Overall Gilt and Champion at the 2009 Indiana State Fair. Wow! That s a lot of information, which confirms our faith in the Watson Hampshire program and the siring ability of FLAT BILL! 45,000 CHAMPION HAMPSHIRE, 2014 SWTC Overrun: 200 Last Call: dose Reg. #: :: A Cut Above Catalog.indd 9 9/4/2014 9:53:09 AM

10 HATS OFF STERLING SILVER x WITNESS (Littermate to Augusta s Mother) HAMPSHIRE :: Bred by Mike & George Watson The high-selling boar of all breeds three years ago at Indiana may look more impressive now than he did when we brought him home! As HATS OFF has matured he has continued to blow visitors away with his extreme squareness, massive, yet clean, bone structure, overall dimension and show-hog build! His champions tell the story here, as his offspring and influenced progeny have climbed the mountains at San Antonio, Denver, Fall Classic, Indiana State Fair, Western Regional and back to back Grand Overall Gilts Of All Breeds at Oklahoma City (OYE) in 2013 and 2014! Probably the best advantage to this proven sire of Hampshire hogs is his ability to throw extreme dimension throughout, yet generate offspring that drop a true hind leg out of the base of their hips. Whether you want to make traditional belted hogs, F1 s or dump him into your crossbred program, the consistency remains the same! 70,000 Champion & High-Selling Boar, 2011 Indiana State Fair Supreme Champion Breeding Gilt, 14 OYE Sired by Hat s Off Res. 11 PACKAGE UNREAL x THE JUDGE HAMPSHIRE :: Bred by Stohlquist Showpigs, Ill. PACKAGE was purchased in the 2009 Crossbred Classic. Let me say that again, PACKAGE was purchased in the 2009 Crossbred Classic! We know how much change has happened since 2009 and a lot of boars don t stick around that long simply due to the fact, generally, they outlast this ever-changing industry. Now, unless we missed something, Hampshire s are still struggling to be set back in their angles, correct in their design and simply just get out and stride. This is still the best option for better designed, better angled, and sounder HAMPSHIRE hogs. This boar has the correct angle to his hip, pasterns and hock. A nearly six year old boar that can still drive his hock back behind his stifle, pick it up and plant it firm and square. We are not sure how many Hampshire boars are still in production with a 2008 date of birth, but we are betting zero of them can stand the test of time like PACKAGE has! 12 FOOT PRINT RECENT SIRE OF THE 145,000 NORMAN STC BOAR UNTOUCHABLE x BEEFCAKE YORKSHIRE :: Bred by Brinning Genetics, Iowa The 2013 WPX definitely provided a great Yorkshire show, and in our opinion an outstanding champion. It took 70,000 to bring home this great dual-purpose (barrow/breeding) sire to A Cut Above. This rascal possesses a nearly perfect skeleton, perfect angles from his blade, front knee and pasterns. His ability to stride effortlessly because of his perfect hip and hind leg was extremely impressive. This guy has a great show ring look and plenty of muscle. This Jan. 2 boar was truly impressive as he competed against Nov. and Dec. boars in the final drive. He has continued to mature and mass up since we brought him home. We believe he will leave a huge footprint in the Yorkshire and market barrow pedigrees. 13 BENCHMARK SPUD x SUPER POWER YORKSHIRE :: Bred by Kent & Amy McLemore A TRUE GENETIC STUD In todays semen business, three things seem to always be at the top of peoples list price, expectancy and consistency. BENCHMARK is pushing five years of age and still nails those categories like he did when he first came up from Bradley. He has been at the top of our semen sales list year in and year out because people know what they are going to get at an unbeatable value! BENCHMARK is still siring unparalleled center body dimension, stout bones and massive feet all in a correctly-designed skeleton. We realize that this boar is not the sire of quick muscle, and those juiced up sale babies that some like, but study his offspring. His genetics are at work at the most influential Yorkshire programs in the country, his daughters carry some of the best maternal traits in the business and his son s have gone on to generate champion barrows (2012 Iowa State Fair Grand Overall Market Hog and Champ York BENCHMARK Grandson )! We feel that regardless of your prerogative, he will help anyone accomplish any goal they might have, and at 35/dose it is about that time to look at the proper stepping stone to put you back in the right direction! 14 CASE CLOSED RIB, BODY AND MASS IN ONE COMPLETE PACKAGE TROPHY CASE x TOW TRUCK SPOT :: Raised by Hirschfeld Livestock and owned with Levi Canales CASE CLOSED was our STC entry that stood third in arguably the toughest Spot class of the afternoon. People were intrigued by his moderation of size, insatiable amount of rib dimension and capacity, while still being able to truly square up and challenge his contemporaries with his range of motion. CASE CLOSED comes at you perfectly square from the ground up and opens up behind his shoulder with an abundance of fore-rib and body shape! When you step back and study this unique breeding hog from the side, he balances as good as any, yet incorporates that remarkable hip and hind leg the Hirschfeld Spots have become famous for. CASE CLOSED also comes from a great sow who produced the Champion Spot Gilt at Houston and Reserve Spot Gilt at WPX. This guy will see a lot of use in the Spot pen at the farm to make those champion caliber barrows we have been known for! Res. With the success and popularity of the Time Change line it was time to find a carrier boar that is more moderate in length of body, yet possesses a square pin set, even toes and correct and perfectly square skeleton. TROPHY CASE is awesome in his profile and perfect in his moderation for making spotted barrows. Res. 16 CHANGE IT UP SIRED THE 35,000 CHAMPION SPOT BOAR, 2013 STC TIME CHANGE x FREE N EASY SPOT :: Bred by Hirschfeld Livestock CHANGE IT UP was the first TIME CHANGE son laid into stud anywhere and while its hard to fit your own foot into the shoe of a legend, he has given his old man the best fight! He sires the Grand Barrow at the Southwest Regional (CPS) in 2013 for Dustin Feldman and the Champion Boar at the CPS STC last year in Springfield (35,000 RIGHT TIME at UpperHand) to name a few. This is the only son of TIME CHANGE that we have seen that offers the sheer bone and foot size of TIME CHANGE. This is the son that offers you a bigger chest, taller shoulder and more back and hip shape yet doesn t sacrifice structural integrity. If you need a notch of elevation, width and muscle dimension in a stress negative package, CHANGE IT UP is an elite choice this upcoming season. TIME CHANGE is the newest Spot legend. The winners he has sired say it all. He offers tremendous muscle and power with an abundance of thickness working down his top and through his wide pin set. This is a great option to follow the TIME CHANGE line as it appears he will quicken up the maturity pattern of his offspring without sacrificing the near perfect structure and bone the TIME CHANGE line is known for. 19 STROKIN CHANGE TWO STROKE x ENEMA (Changer s mother) SPOT :: Bred by Greg & Grant Norman On Ross s journey to the Indiana State Fair, he stopped at Normans to travel with Greg and Grant. When they were loading boars for Indiana. He took two looks at this boar and begged Greg to leave him at home. After some discussing and negotiating, STROKIN CHANGE was headed to A Cut Above. In our path of creating and making great spot barrows for us and our customers we want to offer different pieces and types of boars. We have TIME CHANGE and CHANGE IT UP who will add design, bone and soundness. We have CASE CLOSED and TROPHY CASE who will moderate and add dimension and rib. We have SERIOUS PLAYER who will add muscle and mass. We also have CHANGER who has been a great female sire, and his daughters breed on. We have been wanting to add a Spot sire that has true mass, girth, circumference and stoutness this one is it! The natural spread across this guys back is amazing. His squareness and width at his base is equaled to the top of his skeleton. His turn and spring to his fore rib is unseen today and his dimension and rib is incredible. We are excited to add this powerful piece to our already strong Spotted boar line up and to top it off, he has the same dam as CHANGER. We are confident that this one will breed on! 20 WALTER THE CHESTER WHITE BREED CHANGER! JUST IN TIME x HIGH TIME CHESTER :: Bred by Schminke Chesters Ross went to Al and Kandy s this summer and called to tell us he found the next set of great Chester boars. Man-o-man was he right! WALTER is the boar so many Chester breeders can utilize! The extended, long-fronted, extremely flexible boar, who is a tick longer in his makeup, and can set people back in the right direction! So many Chesters now are short coupled, too moderate, too quick and not sound enough. WALTER will give a tall shoulder and long neck, pull hogs apart from end to end and set in a nearly-perfect running gear! BUTCH is the power hog of the pair. Carrying a bunch of spread down his crisp, enormous top into his explosive hind quarter! Blown apart from end to end and drops an incredible amount of bone down out of his skeleton. 22 DARN NICE SIRED BY THE 2013 POLAND SIRE OF THE YEAR! DANG GOOD HOG x DOUBLE IMPACT POLAND :: Bred by Hirschfeld DARN NICE was our other SWTC entry that we kept back and in retrospect, it was probably the right decision! DARN NICE is sired by the 2013 Poland sire of the year, DANG GOOD HOG! DANG GOOD HOG has had an incredible track record siring champion Polands across the country with his most recent wins being the Champion Boar at the 2014 SWTC and the Reserve Poland Gilt at 2014 San Antonio Livestock Show. This DANG GOOD HOG son offers many of the traditional traits that made his dad famous, which were his balance, extension and structural correctness while also being a notch more moderate in his frame, more massive in his makeup, while coming and going, with more spread and dimension and stands on a larger circumference of foot and bone. This is REDSOX, the 14,000 World Record-Selling Hereford Boar at the 2014 STC! When Chris called the night before the sale to discuss what he saw, he said there was a Hereford boar he thought could light up this vigorously growing breed. This boar could be painted black, white or belted and still be an absolute pivot point for any breed. To say that he is three dimensional might not even be close to what he is in person! An enormous back, huge butt and rib cage we have not seen in a lot of hogs, especially Herefords! Study this guy, and he will make you realize this guy is a show-barrow maker with his tall shoulder, great head carriage, and his more than ample amount of top shape. Possibly, the thing we like the most is he is an awesome-legged boar that reaches long and square off of both ends. This one gets us excited for the things to come in this breed! 25 TRIGGER THE SOUND ONE WITH AN EXTRA SHOT OF COLT 45 x STICK THIS (Trump This littermate sister) BONE AND BALANCE CROSSBRED :: Raised by Stohlquist Showpigs Ross impeccable 25,000 online pig purchase. When Ryan sent him a video of this young prospect, he said there is one thing to do, and that is to pull the TRIGGER and buy this one. TRIGGER has had no Paylean, no fat and no additives. He has been on a self-feeder since coming to Benedict at 100 pounds. To say we are high on this boar is an understatement! We are extremely proud to offer his semen for sale. Not only does he contain one of the hottest pedigrees in the country, but his phenotype is nearly perfect being tall fronted, monster boned, stout featured and possessing natural mass and dimension. We are planning to use this one extremely hard at Hirschfeld Livestock. When I sort stock shows, it is easy to see a huge variation of type and kind we have stock that are too stout, too small, too big, too narrow and poorly structured. The champions are the ones who can combine extreme pieces but stay fundamentally sound. This is why we believe TRIGGER is the man. In addition to his extreme pieces, his basic build, balance and composition will put you in the winner s circle. Pull the TRIGGER, this one has the goods. 27 TRUE BLUE MARSHALL MONSTER x MONEY SHOT x TOXIC CROSSBRED :: Bred by Hirschfeld THE PERFECT HIP AND HIND LEG TRUE BLUE was to be our 2014 WPX entry that caused countless late nights discussing whether or not we should keep him at home, utilize him ourselves and offer semen to the general public, or show him. We chose to keep him home as TRUE BLUE, first off, comes from one of our favorite young sows that ties in greats like SUPER NATURAL, TOXIC, FATAL, SUPER 7 (twice) and SOLID GOLD! Pedigree a side, this guy is one of the best young sires we have seen to make those sought after crossbred gilts!! TRUE BLUE drops a perfect hind leg out of the base of his hip, plants on four big square even toes, is enormous legged, yet maintains a perfect hock design as he travels away from you. He has an extremely wide pin set and a massive, square rump structure. His raw shape and blade width give him the versatility to generate great designed, well balanced market hogs that will have the appropriate amount of muscle tied into their frame. This boar is extremely tall shouldered and his head comes up and out of his blade as it should to generate those show hogs with a natural presence! We have already bred sows in Benedict for WPX to this boar and anxiously await the progeny! Overrun: 75 Last Call: dose :: 27

28 FARE SHAKE TRULY A UNIQUE CREATURE SWAGGER x (NO FARE x SPACE MONKEY) CROSSBRED :: Bred by Hirschfeld Livestock FARE SHAKE is the result of us using the ever-popular SWAGGER back on the dynamic 15,000 purchase from Tye Lettow and Nick Berry that has produced over 30,000 in her first two litters! In fact, Ross loves this sow so much we are anxiously awaiting her first clones! FARE SHAKE is a true combination of his sire and dam! His un-canny ability to be extremely tall fronted, opened up and square at the top part of his blade, explosive and wide through his chest floor, while offering extra extension from his blade forward is truly a unique combination! We all know how critical it is to drive that front two-thirds view coming out of the gate and this guy will inject those traits time and time again! Possibly the greatest bonus to this boar is that he is set back in his angles and comfortable on the move. We love the natural shape that works back off his blade, down his top into his explosive hind quarter! We have already bred numerous influential females to this genetically-enhanced barrow sire and urge you to do the same! Overrun: 125 Last Call: dose 28 :: A Cut Above Catalog.indd 28 9/4/2014 9:54:34 AM

29 PUCKER UP PRIVATE PARTY x ANALYZE THIS CROSSBRED :: Bred by Dan & Mark Hoge PUCKER UP is a PRIVATE DRIVE X WAR FARE son Weisingers purchased from Joe Eggers. Early reports on this boar seem to be worth the investment! The bottom side of this pedigree is a first-litter sow with a bright future at Hoge and Walters. She was a littermate to a popular barrow at the Illinois State Fair last year. The SNOW CAT grandma is actually the mother of GAS CHAMBER at Front Line. Strong pedigree on both sides! This PRIVATE PARTY son is a must-use if you want to make progress on your sow herd in terms of build, structure, look and endurance but not at the expense of losing bone and stoutness. Structure and build have never been more important in crossbred breeding programs. This hog s ability to get out and go is incredible. He has got big even toes, a heavy skeleton and a natural presence that is needed in the modern show barrow. This guy has a real 2015 show barrow look! Overrun: 300 Last Call: dose :: 29

30 SMALL GENIUS IN IT TO WIN IT x TWIN TURBO CROSSBRED :: Bred by Dan & Mark Hoge Ross saw this guy take two steps out of the pen, and he was a must-own kind of boar. For those who think hogs are too small and wide have not judged the average pig at a county fair in the country. There is not enough true rib bred into the crossbred population of showpig sows. As a result, we purchased SMALL GENIUS. This hog has incredible chest width, a huge rib cage and a massive quantity of muscle that is laid appropriately on an ultra correct skeleton. With as much muscle as this guy has you would not expect him to have the pin set and hock design that he does. This boar separates himself from the general masses due to the unique combination of natural width of skeleton with an impeccable hip and hind leg. Job well done, Ross! Overrun: 125 Last Call: dose 30 ::

31 SWAG MAKER POINT MAKER x SWAGGER CROSSBRED :: Bred by Hi Point Genetics What a pedigree - POINT MAKER and SWAGGER! This boar was purchased from Brent on Hi Point s Online Auction and combines two of the most winning and hottest sires in He blends in both of his sires phenotypically. You can see the feature and stoutness of POINT MAKER and the massive top, squareness and show look of SWAGGER. SWAG MAKER is an outstanding addition to our stud. Overrun: 50 Last Call: dose POWER-PACKED PEDIGREE OF MUSCLE, BONE AND WIDTH MARSHALL MONSTER ACE IN THE HOLE x SUPER MONSTER CROSSBRED :: Bred by Frontline Genetics, Okla. MARSHALL MONSTER is the cross boar we have been searching for. We ve finally found a boar we are confident will fix hock placement and soundness without sacrificing any muscle, look or bone. The brother x mother mating should increase consistency as the next great cross barrow and showpig maker. MARSHALL MONSTER also sired the bronze (3rd-overall) Barrow, Champion Hampshire and the crossbred Class Winners at the 2013 OYE! Overrun: 75 Last Call: dose :: A Cut Above Catalog.indd 31 9/4/2014 9:54:58 AM
