CFA Ambassador Program February, 2014 International Division Phebe Low reporting 2014 CFA International Championship Cat Show Hong Kong As in past years, the CFA International Division s annual show was held the weekend of Feb 8-9, in conjunction with the largest Pet Show in Hong Kong. The grand 2014 Pet Show venue was about 100,000 sq feet, located at Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Center, also the largest and unique purposebuilt facilities center of Hong Kong. The gate was reported > 420,000 which broke the record of last year s 350,000. There were over 120 vendor booths in the hall including pet foods, products, services, training and veterinary. We are honored to be a part of it and being one of the core elements to attract visitors. The cat show was nicely partitioned in a separate zone of the venue, away from main entrance and dog show. The show entry was 329 cats including Household Pet. Although the experienced breeders were so busy for his or her show cats, they talked to spectators about CFA, the breeds and cat care whenever they are free. Special thanks to Michelle & Alex who was manning the Ambassador team and were generous to take out their cats to let visitors to pet. Many visitors were getting the very first chance to touch a cat. A kidcat corner was also set up to let children do color painting on cat shape magnets and drawings, these became souvenir that they could bring home with. We have been doing this corner for few years, which made the kids cheering

excitedly to spend longer time here and able to let parents felt relieved while exploring in the show. It was like a cat carnival, people went in with different goals. Some wanted to spend a weekend here with family, some came to search for an answer for cat care. Some may wanted to search for a breed to start with. Others wished to see a hairless cat - Sphynx, the gentle giant - Maine Coon, the mini panther - Bombay, the ET cat Cornish Rex it was fill of joys when people meeting their breeds. The mission of a cat show is not solely a platform for campaigning, for showing off, it is also a place to provide public education for people to learn more about our furry friends. Let people understand more about different breeds and cat care before they started to keep a cat. It can minimize mismatching of cats with owners which avoiding abandons eventually. Our CFA Ambassadors are being the bridge to connect people to the cat fancy. Thanks for everyone who joining this beautiful program and be the face of CFA. Phebe Low CFA Ambassador program Coordinator, Asia / CFA International Division Rep. Kobe Animal School students with Ayumi Ueda, AB judge 2/2

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> NAR (1) report: Geri Fellerman Only been to one show since my last report - New Hampshire Feline Fanciers. It was a small show, but wow, what a gate!!! There was a steady stream of spectators both days despite the cold weather (but New Englanders are used to that). In fact, although the show started at 11 a.m. on Saturday, spectators started pouring in as early as 9. People were genuinely interested in the different breeds and thrilled to be able to pet some of their favorites. I saw several people leaving with cardboard cat carriers, so it seems kitten sales were good as well. It was a real joy to be able to see our lovely cats through the eyes of people who had never seen a pedigreed cat before. Geri >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> GSR (3) report: Harold Bourgeois What a great show for the Ambassador Program in Houston! We had a wonderful amount of gate, and since the booth was directly in front of the door, and in front of two rings, we had visits from almost everyone who came in! Tracie Bayarena was wonderful at the booth and Diane Bourgeois was set up nearby with a pet me cat and people were at one of those two locations the whole weekend. I got time to go by and visit with a lot of folks and our pet me cats were held and loved by hundreds of adults and children. In all the show was a great success for the Ambassador Program. Harold Bourgeois >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> SWR (5) report: Donna Isenberg There were two shows I can tell you about regarding Ambassadors in January. The first was the Crown City Cat Club show held in Anaheim, California on January 11 and 12 with 225 maximum entries. The show was attended fairly well by spectators and lots of interaction between exhibitors and spectators abounded. The show was held for the first time in Anaheim in years, so the gate was very inquisitive regarding pedigreed cats and showing. I believe a few sales occurred, we sold a little tortie point female and she has a lovely home and is quite happy I hear. The next show was our premier show in this region, held by the San Diego Cat Fanciers Club in Del Mar, CA January 25 and 26. There are soo many spectators, that to describe is almost impossible. Each day was filled with individuals visiting the show all day long. I believe too numerous to mention kittens were sold and question after question were answered, by not only Ambassadors,

by each and every exhibitor. Each judging ring was packed with spectators watching with anticipation and excitement at each and every final. Cell phone camera's were so busy, I felt my cats were perpetually in photo ops. Joan Miller held her education ring each day to packed audiences. Best regards, Donna Isenberg >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> MWR (6) report: Candilee Jackson Upcoming shows: February Lincoln State Cat Club, Palatine, IL, March 1-2 Midwest TGIF Fanciers, Indianapolis IN, March 8 MO-KAN (Trifecta), Overland Park KS, March Cat n on the Fox/North Shore, Wheaton, IL, News from the MWR Planning Committee: The MWR Planning Committee (Kathy Calhoun, Mary Auth, Terry Bierrie, Cathy Dunham, Nancy Hitzeman, Candilee Jackson and Bobbie Weihrauch) meet weekly via teleconferencing. In the works are this year s awards show and banquet, held again at the Illinois State Fairgrounds and the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Springfield IL, as well as some pre-planning for the 2015 regional show. The committee is currently running TWO raffles! Funds from these raffles will help the 2017 annual meeting coffers. Available for raffle: Garfield Lithograph, 20 x 15 numbered, framed and signed by artist/creator Jim Davis. Tickets are $10 and only 200 will be sold. The drawing will be held Sunday, June 8 at the regional show. Color Nook and $25 gift card to Barnes and Noble Booksellers. Tickets are $5 with the drawing held at the America s Heartland Show in St Louis on Sunday, April 27, Tickets can be purchased at MWR shows through the committee members as well as Tom Lukken and Robin Bryan. Shows In Review: Held in the RiverCenter in downtown St Paul, MN, Saintly City Cat Club has their 38th cat show in the record books, and a great time was had by all. This wonderful MWR show is held in conjunction with the St Paul Winter Carnival, and boasts several MWR firsts, including an agility ring, and hosted trainees from Japan and the Netherlands. The club was the first to do an 8 ring show in the region, and this year, the club hosted it s first ever Veteran s Class. Each year the club crown and cape a King and Queen Cat from the HHP class, and receives a visit from the St Paul Winter Carnival Royal Family or Vulcanas Rex and his Krewe.

Club president is David Perez and the show manager was Linda Mae Baker. The 2015 show will be January 24-25, and will feature and 8 ring format and a Veteran s class. Judges include: Jan Rogers, Jan Stevens, Brian Pearson, Jeff Janzen, Walter Hutzler, Barbara Jaeger, Cathy Dinesen, and Jim Dinesen. Although Blake the Red didn t make King this year, he WAS close! (He was the Peoples Choice) Everyone made a final, and I had a great time with friends. Gena Garton, Catastery Cattery. Thank you to Linda Mae Baker for her input for this report! Hawkeye State will remember their 57th cat show in Altoona, IA, as the show with the snow! Exhibitors awakened to a surprise snow storm and had them driving to the Palace Theatre in Adventureland Park in low visibility and freezing temperatures. Judges for the snowball spectacular were Patti Jacobberger, Gary Powell, Cathy Dinesen, Jim Dinesen, Paul Patton, Brian Pearson, Beverly Wood and Kathy Calhoun. Kay Myers had a great time showing her 7 year old Singapura and was pleased to pick up some points and ribbons. Show manager Steve Brock reported that the REAL credit for this terrific show s organization and smooth running goes to his experienced show management team of Mary Jane Tesdall, Cheryl McConnell, Roseann Davis, Lynn Staker and the awesome club members of Hawkeye State. I felt like Queen of England I had a title, but really didn t do that much except walk around and LOOK PRETTY! Looking forward to seeing everyone next year, Steve ended his views on the show with I am guaranteeing great weather again for next year s show! Candilee Jackson, MWR Regional >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Japan Region (8) The Kojimas Reporting Takarazuka Cat Fanciers Show 1st show January 25 / 2ndshow January 26,2014 We had Takarazuka Cat Fanciers show on the end of January at Kobe Port Terminal. This show was 6x6 ring and first show of this club and entry was 121! Before the start, Chair of Takarazuka City Council, Mr. Teruaki Kitayama, president of this club made a short speech for exhibitor. Mr. Kitayama did not know about cat show and he was so surprised to see how many lovely cats were at show hall. He was also interested with exhibitor's passion. I attached a picture of president and secretary of Takarazuka Cat Fanciers. Club kindly prepared ambassador booth. We took Raptor both days.

On Saturday, I took 60 pamphlets for spectators and over 30 delivered to spectator and new exhibitor. A family who has American Shorthair came to Raptor and two daughters wanted to hug Raptor. Raptor was too heavy to hold for younger daughter. But she was so happy to touch Raptor. On Sunday, I had to clerk and Masanari was so busy with showing male cat and working with Raptor. However, as usual he was so happy because, there were many young exhibitor including students of Animal School. Masanari wore white coat from sheep fur with white painted face. One of long hair breeder helped painting of Masanari's face. Does he looks like a sheep? He hope so. Many young students from Kobe Animal School and teachers came to show and learned about CFA and cat show in the Ayumi Ueda's ring and ambassador booth. Raptor and Masanari did very well, I think! We also had another 6x6 ring show at Tokyo by Riverside Cat Club Japan and Sappolo Pole Star Club on February 1-2. This show was first show for Sappolo Pole Star Club. Entry was 93. At showhall, recently there are pretty many face with cotton mask. Everybody, please be careful of bad cold. Masanari and Takako Kojima
