8 Project Goal Page (It is not a requirement to list multiple goals, but it is highly encouraged. Make a copy of this page for each of your goals.) GOAL. My goal is to learn how to identify 10 cat breeds by May 1 of this 4-H year so I am ready for fair. HERE IS WHAT I NEED TO DO TO REACH MY GOAL. 1) I will ask my parents to take me to the library so I can check out books about cat breeds. 2) I will go to a TICA cat show and talk to breeders and look at the cats in person. 3) I will print photos of the 10 breeds I selected and make study cards with photos and the name of the breed on the back of each card and its origin. 4) I will invite club members to my house to review the breed cards with me. Project Goal Evaluation: How did you do? Take a look back at the goal(s) you listed at the beginning of the year. How did you do? Evaluate each goal. Using a scale from 5 to 1, rate how you feel you did. How did you do? Circle or underline the rating you give yourself. Excellent Very Well Well Not So Well Very Poorly Why did you give yourself this rating? I went to the library to get books about cats and found five books to check out. I loved the books so much I asked my parents and grandparents to buy the books for me for my birthday and Christmas. I was going to learn to identify ten breeds but instead I memorized forty-three breeds. I made note cards for each breed. I also learned the history of each breed and all the varieties for each breed. I invited several of the girls in my club to come over for pizza and a sleepover. We studied the breed cards with my mom. We made it a game to see who could name the breed first when my mom held up a breed photo card. We had a lot of fun and took turns hosting cat study night. My problems were: I had so much fun learning the breeds that I stayed up too late a few times and was very tired the next day. My successes were: I learned more breeds than I set out to learn and I won a perfect score on a breed ID test at a cat show. I believe I did so well because I had made and used the study cards. This is what I would change if I could go back to October 1 of this 4-H year and start this goal over again (knowing what I know now). Nothing! I enjoyed learning about the cat breeds and learned more than I thought I would.
9 Routine Animal Care Make one entry for standard, routine care that you do all year long. See Record Book Guide for additional help. Please complete all sections. Write none or N/A rather than leaving areas blank. DAILY FEEDING ROUTINE Mornings: My cat is on free feed. I feed my cat Science Diet dry cat food for hairball prevention. I fill my cat s water bowl as needed. Mid-Day: I do not feed at this time of day. Evenings: I check my cat s food dish and fill it if it s empty. I give my cat 1 tablespoon of Fancy Feast salmon flavor wet food. I wash the water bowl and fill it with fresh water every evening. FEEDING ROUTINE - exceptions Special circumstances or changes to routine: When I go on vacation my neighbor takes care of my cat. If my cat gains too much weight I will stop free feeding my cat and measure the cat food. ROUTINE CARE/GROOMING Daily: I brush my cats daily and clean the brush. Weekly: I check my cat s toenails and clip them every 4 to 6 weeks. I always clip them before going to a cat show. I may give my cat a bath prior to a cat show if my cat has sticky spots or smudges on its fur prior to a cat show. I brush my cat s teeth a few times per week. DAILY CLEANING/SANITATION ROUTINE Daily: I clean the litter box daily by removing animal waste. Weekly: I wash the litter box and put fresh litter in it. I run the feed dishes through the dishwasher. Monthly: I wash the blankets in my cat s bed. Yearly: I scrub the inside of my cat carrier and clean it with disinfectant. OTHER CLEANING/SANITATION ROUTINES (put none if you don t have any) None. OTHER FREQUENCY OR THINGS DONE ONLY AS NEEDED I wash the cat carrier if it is soiled after taking my cat to a club meeting or a show. Sometimes the cat scratching post needs new carpet or new twine wrapped around it. I check cat toys to make sure they do not have cracks or sharp edges that could hurt my cats.

17 4-H Story (for juniors) Keep this page in your record book Intermediates and Seniors, see next page for criteria. JUNIORS: You can fill in the blanks below or write a story in narrative format. JUNIOR 4-H STORY Introduce yourself and your family. My name is Kate Kitten. I am an only child and live with my mom and dad. We live in Hansville, Washington. I love animals. I play piano and tennis. I love languages and speak English, Chinese and French. I am homeschooled and just finished the fourth grade. I am a member of the Kitsap 4-H Awesome Cats club. This is my fourth year in 4-H. Tell why you joined 4-H and/or chose the project(s) you did. I joined 4-H because I love cats and want to learn more about them. I love learning how to show my cat at cat shows and enjoy making cage decorations. My favorite events at the fair are the cage decorating, cat costume and hobby contests. I like art, and I get to do a lot of art for my cat project for these contests. Tell about the things you enjoyed learning or doing in your project(s) this 4-H year. Some of the things I really enjoyed this year were making new friends with new members in my 4-H club, playing games like Cat Bingo at club meetings and having treats at meetings. My friend Paige came to my house to study cat knowledge. We had a sleepover and had a lot of fun. Tell about your favorite parts of 4-H this year. My favorite part of the year was when I worked on my cat cage decorations. I drew all the designs for the inside of my cage and cut out all the flowers for the top of my cage from construction paper. I made the top cover just right. I measured the material and used my mom s sewing machine to sew it. I really liked winning the grand champion ribbon for my cage decorations at the Kitsap County Fair and at the state fair. Tell about things you would like to improve upon or do more of next year. One problem I had this year was I made the rug for my cat cage too small. I had to use a few pieces of cardboard to cover the wire floor. I can improve how I do in my project by having correct measurements for my cat cage. I will measure carefully next year. Tell about your experiences at the Kitsap County Fair and the Washington State Fair. I had a lot of fun at both the county and state fairs. I came home with a box of ribbons and two trophies. I have a friend who plans to join our club next year. She saw my cat at the county fair and the pretty cage decorations and rosette ribbons. She wants to join our club because she thinks it looks fun to decorate a cat cage, win ribbons and spend a week at the county fair.
