ABOUT EQUINE VETERINARIANS AUSTRALIA (EVA) Equine Veterinarians Australia (EVA) is the representative body for equine veterinarians in Australia, offering membership to veterinarians who treat horses as part of their practice. A special interest group of the Australian Veterinary Association, EVA was formed in 1971 to meet the needs of members and to act as a representative body for the interests of equine veterinarians within the Australian horse industry. EVA also advises upon horse health issues as an active stakeholder in the equine industry. The key objectives of EVA are to elevate equine veterinary standards to further research and knowledge of equine diseases, deliver postgraduate equine veterinary continuing education and to promote its members as providers of the very best quality care for their equine patients. 13 Introducing the AlphaQ UltraLite Wireless Equine Imaging System Highly respected by its users, the AlphaQdR equine imaging system reset many standards in terms of what equine practitioners demanded from their imaging systems. Designed and built in Australia by Miatech Australia engineers, we are excited to announce our new soon to be released model, the AlphaQ UltraLite. At a mere 10kgs in total weight and half the total volume of the already compact AlphaQdR we are looking to set even higher standards. Standards which we feel will change the way the equine veterinarian goes about daily business. Integrated into the UltraLite package will be the MSI GS72 Stealth Pro 17.4 laptop. Currently the world s most powerful, thinnest and lightest PC in its class. The package design internally, features extensive use of carbon fibre composite materials. Known for their incredibly high impact strengths and light weight, not to mention the sheer beauty. Our new imaging panel is extremely light and compact, being the size of a standard 2430 cassette with narrow borders and over 1kg lighter than the current 1012WCA panel. 23 MAINTAINING JOINT HEALTH USING NUTRACEUTICALS Equine joint disease and associated lameness are the most common athletic injuries seen in performance horses today. In fact, it is the most common cause of reduced athletic function and wastage responsible for up to 60% of all lameness. Osteoarthritis is a progressive, permanent degeneration of articular cartilage. It s also known as degenerative joint disease, or DJD. It s important to remember that if a horse has osteoarthritis, no therapy is curative but it can be managed. By providing the building blocks of healthy joint structures, we can help ensure horses have everything they need to keep their joints healthy. 45 The Equilume Light Mask Ensures... Mares Cycle Early Mares Foal On Time with Optimum Foal Birth Weight & Post Foaling Fertility Enhanced Stallion Fertility & Performance Improved Muscle Tone Flexible Indoor/Outdoor Living & Travel I think that the Equilume Light Masks will open the eyes of the horse industry to the benefits of light manipulation in the same way that deslorelin brought focus to ovulation-inducing drugs -Dr. Angus McKinnon BVSc, MSc, Dip ACT, Dip Vet Med, Dip ABVP Reproduction Specialist Goulburn Valley Equine Hospital, Victoria, Australia The Equilume lighting system is the best lighting program I have ever experienced. I firmly believe that it will revolutionize how mares are managed for the breeding season. I used it on 100% of our mares. My mares were cycling better than ever before on February 1st. Oddly enough my old mares (24-25 years of age) were all cycling by February 1st. Equilume saved me money on shavings and labor. My old mares this year had minimal problems with poor uterine clearance and urine pooling. I have no doubt that is because of being outside 24/7. Not to mention being happier living in the pasture rather than the stall. -Kurt W Harris DVM, Fulton Quien Sabe Ranch, USA At last, a novel and exciting advance in horse breeding which is based on sound theory and solid science. The Equilume Light Mask is sure to be of major practical benefit to those Thoroughbred breeders around the world who have the good sense to use it. -W.R. SilverGlide Stand 43 5 / 44 Carrington Road, Castle Hill NSW 2088 Australia Telephone: sales@silverglide.com.au Website: Contact: Julia Delany Carrick Teasdel, a Cattle Grazier from Australia s Central Highlands was figuring on a long and peaceful retirement. That was until he observed his local vets performing surgery on large animals. For much of his life Carrick had been an importer of U.S. sutures for use in Australian hospitals, dentistry, and general practice. Watching vets operate on horses and cattle, it was obvious that these surgeons were facing surgical challenges for which there were no purpose built sutures. The cross over from swaged sutures designed for human surgery, to small animal surgery had been seamless; but for large animals, not so much. After consultation with Australian bovine and equine surgeons, Carrick and his two daughters, Annaliesse and Julia, have created more than 30 new needle/suture combinations exclusively for large animal surgery.
