1 E CL 2014/09-RVDF March 2014 TO: Contact Points Interested International Organizations FROM: Secretariat, Alimentarius Commission, Joint FAO/WHO Food Standards Programme Viale delle Terme di Caracalla Rome, Italy SUBJECT: Request for Revision/Information to the Database on Needs for DEADLINE: 30 June 2014 : To: Copies to: U.S. Office, Food Safety and Inspection Service US Department of Agriculture Secretariat Room 4861, South Building, 14th Independence Avenue, S.W., Washington DC 20250, USA CCRVDF-USSEC@fsis.usda.gov Secretariat Alimentarius Commission Joint FAO/WHO Food Standards Programme Viale delle Terme di Caracalla Rome, Italy codex@fao.org BACKGROUND: 1. The 21 st Session of the Committee on Residues of Drugs in Foods (CCRVDF) agreed to continue work on the database on countries needs for. The Committee agreed to update the database through a circular letter to all member countries. The updated database would then be used by an electronic working group chaired by the United States of America and Costa Rica to identify data availability and data gaps and explore alternative ways to fill data gaps and prioritize veterinary drugs for evaluation by. 2. In the Risk Analysis Principles Applied by the Committee on Drugs in Foods, one of the criteria for nominating a veterinary drug for evaluation by is that the compound has the potential to cause public health and/or international trade problems (CAC Procedural Manual, page 131, para. 12). This part of the criteria may be helpful to in determining what are needed in their country. 3. The goal of this database has been to maintain a list of veterinary drugs which are needed by countries in the hope that sufficient data can be identified to allow an evaluation by. The Database has been revised based on s contributions and proceedings of the CCRVDF. Appendices: 4. Appendix 1 provides a form which has been in to use for updates and additions to the database. This form reflects the format of the current database. A submission from the Philippines is included as an excellent example of the that is requested when adding a needed veterinary drug MRL and how a country may respond to that request. The first six columns (in white) are for requested from s. The final four columns (shaded in grey) are for optional which may also consider providing. 5. Appendix 2 provides a list of current requests organized by country to aid in reviewing their current requests within the existing database.

2 CL 2014/9-RVDF 2 6. Appendix 3 provides the current database. The database is organized alphabetically by veterinary drug with a different entry for each species for which are needed. Each country that has requested for the specific veterinary drug and species is also listed to show the breadth of each need and the variations in conditions of use. REQUEST FOR REVISIONS/NEW INFORMATION: 7. s are requested, as directed above, to: (i) Review the database (in Appendix 3) and confirm whether their existing requests reflect the current needs; and provide any revisions to the list of needed previously submitted by using the form in Appendix 1. (ii) Submit any new contribution to the existing database by using the form in Appendix 1 (please ensure to include specific to your country even if the needed drug MRL is already listed with from another country).
