1 Curry County Junior Livestock Auction 2018 Rules and Regulations The following information will refer to the market animal projects and the rules and regulations which apply to 4-H/FFA members who raise an animal to be sold at the Curry County Junior Livestock Auction (CCJLA) Auction Animal Eligibility: Below are weight restrictions for all market animals. Steers: pounds Swine: pounds Sheep: pounds Goats: pounds Rabbits: pounds Broiler/Fryer (Over 6.5 lb Roaster) Chickens: 4-6 pounds Broiler/Fryer (Over 6 lb Roaster) Geese: 10 pounds to 20 pounds Ducks: 4 pounds to 10 pounds: Pen of 3 Turkey 14 pounds to 35 pounds 1. Beef must be steers, less than 24 months old and at the time of the show and sale. Steer must be 600 lb minimum at pre-fair weigh in. 2. Swine may be gilts or barrows and be born after January 1 st. 3. Sheep may be ewes or wethers and be born after January 1 st. Animals must be shorn with length no longer than 1 at the Curry County Fair Weigh-in. ALL sheep must have a scrapie identification in their ear at the initial weigh-in. 4. Goat may be either does or wethers, must be under one year of age and still have milk teeth, with no break in the gums. Dehorning is not required. ALL goats must have a scrapie identification in their ear at the initial weigh-in. 5. All (steer, goat, swine and sheep) entries must be properly and completely castrated and healed by pre-show weigh-in. All steers must be dehorned by or at initial weigh-in. 6. Market Rabbits will be weighed at the Curry County Fair Weigh-In. Each exhibitor may register 4 rabbits. Rabbits will be weighed and tattooed at the time members register them. Members will select one pen of (3) fryers from their original 4 to be exhibited in the auction project class. Each fryer must be less than 77 days old. Each roaster must be weeks old. 1

2 7. Market Poultry will be banded and weighed at the Curry County Fair Weigh-In. Chickens: Each exhibitor may register up to 5 chickens. Immediately after the weigh-in, exhibitor will select 3 chickens each from their original 5 to be exhibited in the auction project class. Each fryer must be less than 8 weeks old and weigh between 4 to 6 pounds. Roasters must be between 56 and 112 days old and weigh over 6 pounds. Geese: Each exhibitor may bring up to 2 geese. Immediately after the weigh-in, exhibitor will select 1 goose from their original 2 to be exhibited in the auction project class. The goose must be less than 24 weeks old and weigh between pounds. Ducks: Each exhibitor may register up to 5 ducks. Immediately after the weigh-in, exhibitor will select 3 ducks each from their original 5 to be exhibited in the auction project class. Ducks must be less than 24 weeks old and weigh between 4-10 pounds. 8. Market animals making weight and receiving blue or red ribbons in conformation class may be sold at auction. No white ribbon animals will be sold in the auction. General Rules for the Auction Animal Program: 1. Exhibitor is defined as a 4-H/FFA member in current standing as confirmed by FFA advisor and 4-H agent. 2. Exhibitors may weigh-in two project animals, two pens of poultry, and two pens of rabbits. 3. An exhibitor may sell two animals (or an animal and a pen of animals) at the auction, but they must be of different species. 4. A copy of the health record must be provided at final weigh in. 5. All animals must meet the general health requirements as determined by State and Federal guidelines pertaining to animal health and welfare. 6. Ownership of the animal ends with the sale of the animal in the auction. Care of the animal will continue for a maximum of 24 hours after end of auction. 7. Sale order is to be determined by Curry County Jr. Livestock Committee. 8. The Curry County Junior Livestock Auction is considered a TERMINAL auction, meaning the intent of the sale is for a meat product. Initial Weigh In: 1. All large animals in the auction project must be weighed. Animal will be tagged by Auction Committee member at weigh-in. a) Steer March 18, 2018 from 10am-12pm, Marsh Ranch (contact 4-H office for directions) 2

3 b) Sheep, Swine and Goats April 15, 2018 from 11am-2pm, Event Center on the Beach, south end of the livestock pavilion. 2. Exhibitors must arrive during the announced hours of the weigh-in. Special arrangements must be made ahead of time with Curry County Jr. Livestock Committee. 3. All auction animals have received necessary vaccines and de-wormers in advance. Back-up Animals: 1. Primary animal must be declared at pre-fair weigh-in. 2. Backup animals will be allowed but must be weighed and declared as the backup at pre-fair. 3. Family backup animals are also allowed but must also be weighed and declared at pre-fair. 4. Backup animals may be used at auction if primary animal dies or fails to make weight requirements. Other circumstances shall be subject to review by grievance committee to determine whether backup animal may be used. 5. All private sales of backup animals must occur after auction is complete. Final Weigh-in at Fair: 1. Exhibitors must be on time for final weigh in. Animals need to have ear tags on, clean and legible. Animals need to be clean and not wet. 2. Final weigh in order with be determined by Curry County Jr. Livestock Committee. Auction Program Commission: A commission of 4 % will be withheld from the gross sale of each animal for promotion of the sale, 4-H/FFA member scholarships, 4-H/FFA program support, Buyer s Appreciation Event, auction supplies and other expenses which support the mission of the Curry County Jr. Livestock Auction Committee. Auction Disqualifications: Exhibitors will not auction if any of the following occur: An attempt is made to weigh an animal that has been artificially changed to enhance the conformation of the animal, such as lifting or filling under the skin, or adding weighted material on or in the animal. 3

4 An attempt is made to weigh an animal other than the animal registered to exhibit during the pre-fair weigh-in. An attempt is made to reweigh an animal. All animals will be weighed one time only, at the pre-fair and Auction weigh-in. Auction Program Liabilities: 1. Auction exhibitors not following the stated rules and regulations of the Auction Program may be refused participation in the auction program for one year. 2. If the auction project is condemned in the slaughter process (because of disease, use of medicine, infection, etc.), it is the exhibitor s responsibility to absorb the buyer's loss. 3. Any evidence of artificial coloring or artificial means of removing physical defects will result in the owner of the animal being barred from future shows and all awards and sale proceeds will be withheld from the current show.
