We are so fortunate to have the only breed where any color, any markings, and any eye color are equally acceptable, and where our dogs still perform their original function. Racing Colors also refers to the colors that represent a specific owner. In other words, your Team Colors. Show your racing colors, indicates your loyalty to a given group. In this instance, the SHCA! With this in mind, we are planning a very colorful event. September 27, 28, 29 & 30 Show Weekend While you are planning your Specialty visit, be aware that on the weekend immediately preceding the SHCA National Specialty, the Grand Valley Kennel Club will hold 4 days of all-breed dog shows in Grand Junction, Colorado, approximately 241 miles (4 hours) from our show site in Provo, UT. This is directly on the way if you are taking I-70. Thursday judges are Christina Hubbell (breed & group), Jean Fournier (best). Friday judges are Jean Fournier (breed), Stephen J. Hubbell (group), and Christina Hubbell (best). Saturday judges are Kimberly Meredith-Cavanna (breed & best), Patricia A. Hess (group). Sunday judges are Stephen J. Hubbell (breed & best), Jean Fournier (group). There will also be Junior Showmanship, Obedience and Rally, but no Agility at these shows. Superintendent is Jack Onofrio. We will be providing some extra grooming tables and blow-dryers to share for those who are flying in. There will also be hot water for bathing dogs. Please come prepared to stack your crates. Dogs may be left in the grooming area overnight. There will be security. However, there will be no personal x-pens allowed in the grooming area. SHCA, Inc., Check Policy All checks or money orders must be made payable in US Funds and drawn on US banks. Returned checks or money orders do not constitute payment for goods and/or services. All returned checks will be charged a $10.00 returned check fee. Repeated returned checks and/or failure to repay debts to SHCA, Inc., will result in being placed on cash only basis with the Club. Any payment received by SHCA for any purpose by an individual, group, or business with an outstanding debt to the Club will first be applied to that debt. Because of the numerous places of interest in the area, those of you flying to the Specialty might want to rent a car so you can do some sightseeing in the area. Our big trophies will be custom-designed metal art. Many of the big and class-placement trophies have been pledged. However, we have a number of obedience, agility, and rally trophies available, as well as rosette sponsorships; and you can make donations to the general trophy fund. Entry fees will be $25.00 for the first class in which a dog is entered and $20.00 for each additional class for the same dog. Show Site Provo Marriott Hotel & Conference Center 101 West 100 North, Provo, UT Room Rate: $99.00 per night ($119 for a Jr. Suite) Limit 4 Dogs per room (Dogs can be left in Convention Center over night) First night s room and tax will be charged to all reservations on July 1, This is non-refundable. $40.00 non-refundable cleaning deposit will be required at time of check-in for rooms with dogs. Hotel Phone: Be sure to reference Siberian Husky Club (SHCA Room Block) Motor Home Parking Motor home parking spaces are available in the parking lot across from the Marriott, kitty-corner to where the show will take place. There are no hook-ups, and the area must be kept clean. The cost per space is $25 per vehicle per night. Motor Home parkers do NOT have to have a room reservation at the hotel. We will be arranging for a pumping service mid-week. Details are available from the Motor Home Parking Chairman, and you will pay the pumping service directly. We know that you are planning on adding to the success of this fundraiser by purchasing some collectibles; but, you can also participate by donating items for auction and/or money to be used to purchase auction items. Banquet The annual banquet is the last opportunity to share in the fun at the National. In addition to enjoying a dinner with your friends and hearing from our judges, SHCA s annual awards are presented at the Banquet. At this year s banquet, enjoy a Feast, starting with a Mixed Green Salad, and your choice of entrée: Chicken Chasseur (sauté chicken breast with garlic, shallot, tomato, mushroom, and fresh rosemary served hunter style in a demi-glaze). Or 8 oz tender beef medallions with forest mushroom bordelaise. Each entrée comes with fresh baked rolls and butter, chef s choice of fresh vegetables, garlic mashed potatoes, and Chocolate Mousse Cake for dessert. Deadline for banquet reservations is: September 1, 2012 Catalog Advertising Each year, SHCA Specialty Catalogs become collector s pieces due to the historical content of the entries and ads. Make yourself part of that historical record for 2012 by advertising in the Racing Colors Specialty Catalog. Ad rates are: Full page color $90.00 Full page black and white... $50.00 Electronic submission in one of the formats specified below is preferred; however, you may submit your ad by sending your requested layout on a piece of paper along with actual photograph(s), and any other components that will be needed to create your ad. There is an additional $10 charge if the ad is not submitted print ready. If submitting your ad electronically, follow the guidelines below: 1. Scan pictures at 300 dpi, (color for color ads, or grayscale for b/w ads) sized and cropped as desired. 2. Create your full-page ad NO LARGER than 4.5 x Use Microsoft Publisher or Microsoft Word to create an electronic version of your ad. All SHCA members should be extremely proud and thankful for those who rescue Siberians. We need to do all we can to support Rescue and educate the public on the pros and cons of owning a Siberian. The parade is our way of acknowledging the great deed that those that rescue a Siberian have done, whether their Siberian was rescued from a shelter, off the street, from a bad owner, or from an owner that loved them and could no longer care for them. Some are well bred, others poorly bred and some have maybe a little something else in them. All are welcome to participate in our Parade. Each participant receives an individualized ribbon, a bag of donated items and a gigantic thank you. Shipping Department Have you ever wanted to buy more things at the auction, but couldn t figure out how to get them home? Or, wondered how to get your trophies home? This year, the Specialty will provide a shipping service. You pay for the packaging and shipping charges in advance, along with a nominal charge ($5.00 and above depending on the complexity of the shipment), and the Shipping Department will pack your item and have it sent to you. For more details, contact a Committee member at the Specialty. Transportation There are two airport options for this National depending on where you are coming from. The major airport is Salt Lake International (SLC). It is about 40 miles from the host hotel. A second option is the Provo Municipal Airport (PVU). Frontier Airlines operates one flight in and out of Provo each day. The flight originates in Denver, CO (DEN). The DEN to PVU flight can only accommodate 4 dogs in the Cargo hold. However, the advantage is that you are only 5-10 SHCA 2012: Racing Colors 11

7 Junior Handling Seminar and Social Attention Jr. Handlers. Thursday night is the annual meeting. We felt you might enjoy this instead. Katelyn Scott, who just aged out of Juniors and was one of the Top Junior Handler s in the US and THE TOP Junior Handler of all times in ASCA, will be presenting a Handling Seminar/Clinic. This clinic is free for all Juniors and there will be food and socializing, too. When numbers are not provided, it will be so stated. If a non-current CERF/SHOR number (one not from the current or previous year) is provided, it will be so stated. The only exception will be when adequate information is included with the ad to verify that the advertised Siberian is too young for OFA (two years) and/or CERF/SHOR (one year). When this occurs, it will be so stated. Catalog Honorarium A memorable part of the catalog each year is the section that reminds us of those special dogs that have shared our lives. Remember your special dogs in the Honorarium section. We are offering the first two lines at $5.00 which may include your name/kennel, verbiage and one dog s name. Each additional dog is $5.00. 8 Concessions Calling all Vendors, Area Clubs, Rescue Organizations, and Creative People! The National Specialty is the perfect opportunity for access to the Siberian Collecting Public! Don t miss this opportunity to have a booth at the Show! Vending space is indoors near the ring. Each space is 10 x 10 in size. The cost of each 10 x 10 space is $ PLUS an auction/raffle donation valued at least $ (Siberian Husky Area Clubs pay ½ of that fee plus an auction/raffle donation). Pipe and Drape, a skirted table, a chair, and a waste basket are included in this price. Electricity is available at an additional charge. Spaces will be available for setup on Monday afternoon, October 1 st, and/or Tuesday afternoon, October 2 nd. Neither setup nor takedown may interfere with any competition or judging. Exact times for setup and takedown will be provided when the final schedule is known. Vending space is limited, and it will be assigned in paid reservation order, attempting to minimize duplicate goods and services, with first priority given to those paying full vending fees. Due to space limitation, initial assignments will be made for single, 10 x 10 spaces. If, after the deadline, space remains unsold, it will be offered to existing vendors in order of reservation. Should a vendor wish a space larger than 10 x 10, he or she should indicate this on the reservation form. No reservation is complete without full payment. Reservations are due by August 18, 2012, after which time any unreserved spaces will be made available to existing vendors requesting additional space. SHCA reserves the right to accept or reject any Vendor. The first half of our seminar will feature Animal Behaviorist/Siberian owner Dr. Jennie Willis. She will be speaking on Understanding Fearful Behavior in the Ring and Changing it. Dr. Jennie Willis graduated from Colorado State University in 2005 with a Ph.D in Zoology, with an emphasis in Animal Behavior. She currently teaches undergraduate courses in dog behavior and instructs veterinary students in applied companion animal behavior at Colorado State University. Dr. Willis is a member of the Animal Behavior Society and the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior. She has also titled Siberians in Conformation, Obedience & Rally. After Dr. Willis speaks, there will be light nibbles and a cash bar and at 7:00 PM our second speaker will be Karen Ramstead, five time Iditarod finisher who will share her tales of the trails. Several of Karen s dogs have not only finished the mile race, but are Champions in the show ring as well. You definitely won t want to miss either of these speakers!!! This can be Siberians in harness, or racing around the yard. Have your racing photo made into a poster. Walgreen, Costco, Wal-Mart and other places do this for around $9.99 for an 11 x 17 poster (you can go larger if you want). This year, again, the Judges' Education Committee will be offering an extensive opportunity for judges and those ACTIVELY working toward becoming eligible to judge Siberian Huskies to learn about our breed. The Seminar and Workshop will be during the day on Friday. Ringside Mentoring will be during Best of Breed judging on Saturday and at other times during the week by prior arrangement. Priority will be given to current Siberian judges and judges actively working on the Siberian as an additional breed. Space is limited, and reservations are mandatory. Additionally, JE is drafting requirements for an SHCA-approved Presenter program, which would include attendance at a Presenter Workshop. At this time, it is uncertain if there will be the need for a Mentor Workshop, or if the Presenter program will be far enough along to warrant a Presenter Workshop at the 2012 National.
