2 U12 White Service Project: Provide Blankets and Treats to Animals in a Local Shelter. Besides our love of soccer, our love of animals was another thing we all had in common too! We decided to get blankets and treats for animals in a local shelter! We didn t want to just buy these items; that would be too easy, so we decided to hand make the blankets and bake treats ourselves! The 5 of us from our U12 White team brainstormed about how to get this done. Turned out there were 5 different things to do to get our project completed successfully! We worked on the project step by step with all of us participating in each step as a group. Here s how our project went! By Hunter: The first meeting of our charity donation event was at my house where we talked about what charity were going to donate to and what we re going to donate. We chose to donate to an animal shelter. The animal shelter we decided to donate to was A.R.F. I thought A.R.F was a good place to donate to because we all love animals and wanted to make them feel loved. What we donated was homemade dog biscuits and blankets for both dogs and cats. I loved doing this because it was so fun to be with my teammates outside of practice and we got to see some adorable puppies and cats. Thank you for teaching me so much about leadership I appreciate it. I will use this experience to build on my leadership and community services. Thank you!!! By Regan: We got the fleece at Joann s Fabric store. We each bought four pieces of fabric. We also got small hearts to put on some of the blankets. Then went to my house. There we started making the first of our blankets. All of us at least started to make their first blanket. While we made our blankets, we watched the soccer movie: Dare to Dream which was very long, but all of us found it inspirational. Mia Hamm was awesome! Each girl finished off her blankets in the following days. We had a lot of fun! By Jasmine: For the U12 white s leadership project, we gathered yarn and fabric to make blankets for the cats and dogs. We also made dog treats for the dogs and donated these things to the shelter. The workers there were very pleased to receive the blankets and dog treats. I learned so much from this program that I hope to teach and lead others on helping their community. By Hannah: The next part of the project was to make the doggy biscuits. We all went to Hannah s house and each person brought a different ingredient for the treats. We put all of the stuff together mixed it then rolled out an even piece for each person. Then we took littler pieces and shaped them with cookie cutters. Once we were done with that we put them in the oven. Once they were done and hard we put them in bags and tied bows onto the bags. By Steffanie: Now it was time to bring the blankets and treats to the animals at ARF in Walnut Creek. We were all excited about going and decided that Saturday Nov. 17 worked out for everyone to be able to go. When we arrived at ARF, we told the staff why we were there. We showed them the blankets and doggy biscuits; they were all so happy and grateful. A volunteer named Ursula took us around and then brought out Denver, a very playful and loving dog. Overall our project was successful. The 5 of us were able to work together to get it finished. We helped each other out in every step, and it made me feel happy and proud to help the animals. The Leadership program taught me many things; one was how giving back to the community, even in small ways, makes a difference!

It is good friends like you who help us save loving dogs and cats that we rescue from shelters in California. We have lots of staff and volunteers who take care of the animals - giving them nutritious food, vet care, safety and the love they deserve until we can find them a home of their own. You can visit our website at and see all the animals who will get new homes! We post the new ones as soon as they are ready for adoption. We are so impressed that you love animals so much!
