Coesponding autho: Bjøg Heingstad, Genetic coelations between clinical mastitis, milk feve, ketosis, and etained placenta within and between the fist thee lactations of Nowegian Red (NRF) Bjøg Heingstad,2, Yu-Mei Chang 3, Daniel Gianola,3 and Gunna Klemetsdal Depatment of Animal and Aquacultual Sciences, Nowegian Univesity of Life Sciences 2 GENO Beeding and A. I. Association, Ås, NORWAY 3 Depatment of Daiy Science, Univesity of Wisconsin, Madison, USA 56 th Annual meeting of the EAAP, Uppsala, Sweden, June 5-8, 25 Commission on Animal Genetics, Session: Functional taits in cattle, CG.2.7.

Intoduction Clinical mastitis (CM), milk feve (MF), ketosis (KET), and etained placenta (RP) ae among the most fequent diseases affecting daiy cattle Of all veteinay teatments in daiy cows (Noway 23): 44% CM, 9% MF, 9% KET, and 5 % RP Seveal studies have epoted heitability estimates but vey few studies of the genetic associations between these diseases

Objective Infe heitability and genetic coelations between CM, MF, KET, and RP within and between the fist thee lactations of Nowegian Red (NRF)

Data Daughtes of 24 NRF sies Pogeny-tested Fist-cop daughtes only Fist calving in hed-5-yea classes with at least fistlactation cows Recods of 372,227 cows of which 247,692 had a 2 nd lactation, and 47,5 had a 3 d lactation

Data Fo each cow, all cases of veteinay teated CM, MF, KET, and RP in the fist thee lactations wee included. Within each lactation, absence o pesence of each of the fou diseases was scoed as o, espectively, based on whethe o not the cow had at least one veteinay teatment ecoded in the inteval: -5 to 2 d fo CM and KET -5 to 3 d fo MF to 5 d fo RP

Table. Mean fequency of clinical mastitis (CM), milk feve (MF), ketosis (KET) and etained placenta (RP), by lactation. st lactation 2 nd lactation 3 d lactation No of cows 372, ,692 47,5 Mean CM fequency, % Mean MF fequency, % Mean KET fequency, % Mean RP fequency, %

Methods Bayesian appoach using MCMC methods A 2-vaiate (3 lactations 4 diseases) theshold liability model assuming that each disease was a diffeent tait in each lactation Same model as used in Heingstad et al., 24. J. Daiy Sci. 87:
