1 Appendix I: Geographic terms and boundaries The maps contained within this report often display data aggregated to pre-defined geographic regions. In general these regions or areas have been defined for statistical or administrative purposes by other agencies. The full geographical extent of the report is defined by the area served by the ARPHS. There are three DHBs within the region. These areas have been defined by the Ministry of Health for the purposes of health and disability service planning and delivery. The DHB areas can be subdivided into constituent Territorial areas. There are seven Territorial areas within the ARPHS region. Waitemata DHB includes Rodney district, North Shore City, and Waitakere City. Counties Manukau DHB includes Manukau City, Papakura City, and Franklin District. Auckland DHB is co-terminous with Auckland City. The relationship between DHB and Territorial boundaries is illustrated in Figure 69 under Mauriora. Two key smaller geographic units are also used throughout this document. More detail is provided about each of these below. Territorial electoral wards Within each Territorial are a number of local government electoral wards. The relationship between wards and Territorial boundaries is illustrated in figure one. As it is often not possible to label each ward for maps produced at this geographic scale an index table (Table ) is included to enable readers to identify wards of interest. 113

It should be noted that CAU boundaries do not necessarily align with ward boundaries. Because CAUs are generally too numerous to label, reference maps (Figure 70 to Figure 72) have been created to enable readers to identify CAUs for each DHB district (see Table 18 to Table 20 below).
