Specifically, I studied nesting ecology at field sites in Idaho and Oregon, USA. I located and observed nesting turtles, excavated nests, measured and returned eggs into their nests, installed nest protectors, and placed I-button data loggers in nests. I also returned in September to excavate nests, assess survival, measure hatchlings, and return some hatchlings back to the lab. Field Assistant: March 2013 August 2013 Dr. Richard King Lab, NIU I assisted PhD candidate Eric Hileman with his project studying the ecology of the Eastern Massasauga Rattlesnake in Michigan, USA. I learned how to safely capture and handle venomous snakes for study, track animals via radio telemetry, insert PIT tags, and draw blood from snakes. Field Assistant: October 2012 and March 2013 Project PI: Dr. Dan Warner, UAB Prior to joining Dr. Warner s lab, I assisted with his project studying phenotypic selection and population ecology of the Brown Anole (Anolis sagrei) on intracoastal islands on the east coast of Florida. I learned how to capture lizards using noose and mantis techniques.

7 I also helped measure and record morphometrics, identify sex, take tissue samples, and properly clip toes to uniquely mark each individual. Neotropical Herpetology Field Course: 2012 Professor: Dr. Peter Lahanas, ITE-C I travelled to the Institute for Tropical Ecology and Conservation field station in Panama for 28 days to study the amphibians and reptiles of Panama. The course lectures were geared towards diversity, evolution, behavior, and conservation. We conducted a group project looking at abundance and home range size of poison dart frogs (Oophaga pumilio) across habitat types. I also conducted an individual research project looking at sexual and ontogenetic differences in snake antipredatory behaviors. Herpetology Lab Research: Advisor: Dr. Stephen Mullin, EIU Prior to beginning my own project, I assisted with the following projects: Migration movements of the Midland Brown Snake (Storeria dekayi); Diet analysis of the Blue Racer (Coluber constrictor foxii); A repatriation effort of the Tiger Salamander (Ambystoma tigrinum). Experiences: Drift fence installation and maintenance; cover board survey techniques; Funnel trap construction and maintenance; visual encounter captures; proper handling/care of amphibians and reptiles; marking of salamanders (toe clipping); marking of snakes (medical cautery unit and scale clip); minnow trap use for amphibians; seining and capture of feeder fish. Independent Study (Mammalogy): 2011 Advisor: Dr. Jill Deppe, EIU I keyed out unidentified mammalian skulls and skins from EIU s teaching collection and labeled accordingly. Undergraduate Research: 2009 Advisor: Dr. Zhiwei Liu, EIU Project: I collected wasps from galls on Silphium stems and conducted a behavioral host plant preference experiment. OTHER WORK EXPERIENCE U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Park Ranger: May 2009 June 2012

8 Duties: I patrolled the lake, campgrounds, and outlying lands to assist visitors of Lake Shelbyville. I also provided care and maintenance of captive amphibians and reptiles, and gave educational programs to school groups and visitors of Lake Shelbyville.
